  1. This would be an amazing job I would fit into so well, it's just pretty far:/
  2. I've only recently started really getting into fairy wrasse, but I can't seem to get definitive information on keeping them together. It was my understanding, stemming from firsthand experience, albeit pretty limited, that at least some of the common ones(lubbocks, carpenters, etc) can happily live together with different species, even in small tanks, but as far as in general, everyone seems to have different opinions(well, of "yes" and "no", anyway). So, overall can different species live together? In any dynamic-males/males, famales/females, males/females, males&females/males, m&f/f, m&f/m&f "/" = different species a tank full of many different fairy&flasher wrasse species would be absolutely jaw dropping!!!!
  3. I know there are some smaller basslets that can be kept together, but I'm wondering specifically about the liopropoma family. Although im also wondering about keeping chalk bass with them. I believe, and correct me if I'm wrong, that unless it's a very large tank, same liopropoma species cannot be safely kept together (Swissguard/swissguard, swalesi/swalesi, etc), although I believe I've seen multiple candy basslets together, at least temporarily, but I'm wondering(hoping!!!!)if different liopropoma types can be together since they look exactly alike except their colors. I'm also wondering about those deepwater basslets that are very similarly shaped but different patterns and colors. I know some get significantly larger, so again, I'm just wondering about those of similar sizes. I think a tank just full of many different little basslets would be absolutely amazing!
  4. I'm getting (a) pinecone fish and soon flashlight fish, and I really want to know if it's safe to put cleaner shrimp I. With them. I'm sure it's fine while they're small, but both aren't your standard reef fish. Even though they live in reefs, I don't know if cleaner shrimp are out and working at night, and if not, those fish might not be familiar with their work, so I'm worried about when they get big enough to make a meal of a shrimp.
  5. No one??? No one is even pretty familiar with just goldflakes OR flagfins? :(
  6. I've actually talked to, and read about a number of people who have kept pinecone fish very successfully for many years, so im starting to believe that many people rush into it and just don't do their research, or cut corners. The way I'm looking at it right now is that is SOMEones gonna buy them, it might as well be someone who's been researching them and willing to house and care for them properly. Hey, IM one of those people! The big thing I'm trying to find out, that I can't, is if they(and flashlight fish)are safe with cleaner shrimp or not. I know they're reef fish but not all reef fish are friendly to cleaner fish. <I definitely understand what you mean, and I whole heartedly agree about with you about fish that aren't able to be kept alive, short term or long term, like most butterflyfish, and some filefish, or animals like garden eels, upside down jellyfish, and nautilus, that can be but never are, and some fish that SHOULDNT be kept, like lion fish(at least in states anywhere near the coast)that are wiping out the Caribbean and are working their way up the coast, even being found as far north as New York. Like snakeheads and pacu also. And also fish that commonly don't last long like some deep sea fish that are commonly collected by causing harm. I get sad every time I see something for sale that I know is bound to die soon. I would absolutely LOVE to have a chambered nautilus, but I'd don't know if they even CAN be kept successfully at all, & even if they can, I'm sure it would be more than I could or would want to deal with
  7. There he is- The tail is pretty much yellow instead of having black, or being heavily shaded(goldflakes have black, flagfins have bright yellow) The scales are much closer to the solid pattern of flagfins, instead of having the larger gold flecks all over like goldflakes. I've seen a picture or 2 of goldflakes with similarly "dull" scales, but never a goldflake without a solid black tail. But the hybrids Iv seen look very much like mine. Hybrid or not, I'm very disappointed about the lack of the bright gold flecks, that's why I like the goldflakes, and why I spent so much money! And his black is super under developed. He's still my little buddy, but....:( I somehow seem to completely randomly get unusual colored fish,(or maybe turn them that way if possible cause they usually don't seem to start out that way), which is usually cool(asfur angel with the top of the yellow fading the whole top fin orange, a bicolor angel with orange rear finnage, a yellow belly hippo tang who's entire body got a yellow tinge, a maskless moorish idol, maroon masked emperor angel and a couple others), but I guess now I'm seeing the other end of the spectrum:(
  8. Hey, sorry it took me so long, I've had pressing family related stuff going on. Actually, very sadly the little baby is no longer with me:( it just continued to get worse, both the issue and his condition, and nothing I did worked. The melafix seemed to be a problem for he/she. Everything else in the tank stayed as happy as always, but I found him on his side the 2nd day. I don't know if it was from the melafix itself, or it would have happened anyway, but I was then easily able to remove him into the QT, and start treating with bifurin, which Iv had amazing luck before, at least with sores, (even 1/2 one entire side of a yellow tang!), but it seemed to have no effect(in time?). He looked SLIGHTY better off when I first got him into the QT, in which I lowered the salinity a tad to give him more oxygen, but over the next day he slowly declined and the next morning my poor little thing was gone.
  9. Iv been annoyed for awhile at how my bigger goldflake doesn't look like a standard goldflake, especially missing the highlighted golden flecks on the body, which is my favorite part. I was just comparing mine with flagfins again, as I have before, always concluding it must just be a weird goldflake with some seemingly mixed features, and saw a few pictures of foldflake/flagfin hybrids, and surprised at how similar they look. Does anyone have any familiarity with the hybrids, or familiar enough with both species that they could differentiate oddball individuals? (I'll edit&add pictures tomorrow-its lights out time for them)
  10. can you tell me about the job? I know it sounds like it might be fairly self explainatory, but I don't want to just make assumptions. I'm in Columbia, so it's not super far, but also not a particularly short trip, especially if it's anywhere near rush hours.
  11. Oh maaaaaaan:/ the downloads only go back to June 2017, on every site:(
  12. Yeah! I was actually joking around when I said I'll take it, but I seriously would! I dunno where you are, but I would be thrilled to have some of that-in fact, any if the sponges that are bothering you guys:)
  13. Yeah ive heard that about them. The people I've been talking to for them admitted they can be, but claim that with just a little bit of additional care of packing/shipping, the risk is minimalized. One can only hope that is really the case, and the additional care is actually given. Thanks for responding, it's much appreciated! And thanks for the heads up-I'll hafta see if I can get ahold of that article!
  14. Lol the purple sponge sounds like a blessing, not a curse! Where r u, I'd happily take some off ur hands! The others too! The black slime stuff that clumps substrate sounds annoying, but all the rest you guys mention sound like beautiful additions!!!
  15. Ok, it's gotten worse just since last night, and looks like another might be beginning to appear right in front of that one, and also today he's stopped eating, so I just can't wait any longer for potential help, and have started a course of melafix this evening. Still though, I'd like any input if anyone has any, cause it's always possible it won't work. The no-eating part has thrown me off. That's not something that usually happens from melafix-able problems.
  16. I've heard flashlight fish should be in cooler water, but apparently they do alright in tanks that would definitely be more standard temperatures. Does anyone have experience with them and that? Also, I'm about to get a pinecone fish or 2. I see totally different labels, even on the same site, about them being easy or difficult. I know some of the issues with them, like antibiotics and copper meds, and how them may need live food to start. Does anyone have personal experience with them? Im definitely pretty advanced, but for that price I'd like to know if I'm getting into a situation where they will constantly need additional attention and problem solving. I'd prefer to avoid having it come to where advanced care is necessary.
  17. My juv goldflake angel has a weird bump on its back. Im not sure what it is, and before I start just throwing melafix at it, I figured I'd ask around. A few weeks ago I had to drain the tank to a couple inches and remove all the rock so I could lift it up and slide a platform underneath it, and a couple fish got little knicks in their fins from the affair, which may have been where/when he got this. I'm almost 100% sure this is when his color dulled, and around when he has been spending more and more time off by himself, but the bump/discoloration of the spot is very new. It may have been a bit discolored for a short time, but the bump itself is only a couple days old. I don't want to medicate unnecessarily and I dont want to jump in with anything super harsh if unnecessary. The tank has a bunch of hermit crabs in it and possibly some of those little hitchhiker starfish which i wouldnt be able to remove. invert-harmful meds r only if absolutely necessary.
  18. That's true, I didn't even think about that, I definitely will dim it when I go
  19. Solaris i5, I think it is. (The American model made to replace the crappy Chinese models...id HATE to see the crappy Chinese model!!!)
  20. It's a Solaris. A discontinued kind, which doesn't do all the cool stuff it's supposed to, like dimming for cloud cover, which it actually has a setting for, but more importantly, it doesn't auto dim at all, it just turns on/off at morning/night, or adjust for calendar sunrise/set, even tho it keeps the date and all.
  21. No fans, and yes, a hot stuffy room. Probably in the high 70s, low 80s. I'd have to check to be sure. It's pretty humid too, from 2 big warm tanks evaporations. So I pretty much just need to run a fan onto the fixture? Wow, that's a relief! I was worried there was dangerous overheating going on from bad wiring or something that could potentially start a fire!!!
  22. Please look down at my post about my LED fixture-I didn't include the situation may potentially be dangerous, not simply wondering if it's working properly, or not. The post is just a dozen or so topics below "Led fixture overheating", or something like that.
  23. Hi there, my LED fixture that I got used after last summer, has started shutting off for 10-15minutes now and then, whenever it hits 120F, until it gets back down to 100F. I've never heard of that being a standard something that LEDs do. Obviously this fixture is set up for that, since it does the auto cool down, but that can't be normal, can it? I didn't think LEDs even got that hot, but mine does(just since it's started getting over 90F out). Is my fixture crap, or is it normal, or.....? I don't like it in general, but I can live with it if it's safe, but I canNOT take ANY risks! We're going to be gone in a month, for a week, so no1 will b around to monitor things, and I'm getting worried. Even worse would be if something happened while NOT on vacation, and everyone is out, and all out animals are home alone when something goes wrong!!!
