  2. So I have had two dwarf angels in my aquarium. I have never had an issue. I recommend putting them in last cause honestly once they get established there very aggressive. I have had a flame angle and I have had potter angle. None of them ever gave me problem but there is evidence out there that they sometimes can nip. A lot of us have dwarf angle is are aquariums with no issues you just have to wait and see and watch. Good luck Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. So with everyone's throwing there opinion in the ring I will to. If your tank is stable and your water parameters seem good go for it. With that said you want your fish to be happy and having ample room for them is key. I really don't count the diamond Gobby or the chromis as huge impact to your stock load. Honestly one or two more fish would max it out. I would do a wrasse and dwarf angle and call it a day. Good luck and honestly everyone in here can tell you this hobby is very subjective and there is million ways to do a tank. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. I owned a Red Sea Reefer 250. I love it super easy to run. It was beautiful and I loved the way it looked in our house. Cons the sump was small. I think you will like the tank. I would go with the reefer and not the deluxe. Good luck. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Hey Jeskay, Nice fish man. I have always wanted one of these. I have never run a QT tank but I'm going to in the future. From what I read if your not running copper I would keep your salinity a little lower at 1.10 since I heard thats easier for them to breath. But like I said I have never set one up. Best of luck with him and hopefully he makes it.
  6. I have a shrimp that ate all of mine if you want him
  7. Wow I hope everything goes good. Best of luck and recovery
  8. This is my two cents take or leave it off of my research: UV sterlizer are bennificial for removing free floating alage and bacteria(bennificial and non bennificial). No Studies have proven that installing one removes velvet or ick and Honestly 100 percent water change would remove them from the water column, Honestly save your money and dump all the rocks in a vinigar bath and wash out the sand. Viniger bath the tank and add new water and new sand. Total cost = 40 bucks maybe UV sterlizer worth a darn=80-100 bucks. You still need to keep your fish in QT and I think you could even get away with dipping your coral in Hydrogen peroxide and adding them to your DT right away (more research will need to be done). But this is the same advice everyone gave you before. How is the QT process going? Are you running Copper or any medication? Well I hope all is well good luck!
  9. Hi Everyone, First off let me say thank you for all the help my aquarium would not be alive without all your help. As usual in this hobby I have hit another road block. My Media reactor is reef octopus Phosban Reactor. I usually place carbon and Phosguard in the cyclinder and it works great, However I decided to try purigen in the cylinder. I have noticed though the Purgine doesnt seem to be tumbling in the cyclinder and its just flowing through the meadia. This is the other issue it seem to the water flow is to slight trickle out the back end. I am running a Sicce pump. Do I need to upgrade the pump? Is It to much media inside the cyclinder?Has anyone ever had this happen to them before? Thanks everyone, Happy reefing
  10. I got my Potter angle fish from him and he is doing amazing. Def worth checking out his store.
  11. Ok sounds good. I just like seeing what people are doing on the hobby and what tips and tricks I can take away from successful tanks.
  12. Is there no tank of the month for November?
  13. Man I am sorry to hear that. I was talking to some shop owners who had the same thing happen to them. They went to go get things or help another customer out and then bam the kids stole pieces of corals. One of the owners caught the kids stealing and what they where doing was they had a burger king cup and they would grab pieces and place them in the cup when the owners wearnt looking. I trust alot of people on here, however I would treat this like an upgraded version of craigslist. Still do trades and sales but be smart about it, when possible do public deals and always put valuables away when having members over. Never leave people alone and always do sales with someone with you. I feel thats the only way to protect yourself.
  14. I went to the Wamas meeting and they where talking about bionic trace elements and I did some research my corals seem to be growing a little bit more and perking up I am 3 weeks into so it's still hard to tell. The reason I do higher mix is because I keep higher trace elements then I heard corals don't mind the higher salinity. Reef escape gave me the idea and everything is working so far. Thanks Dan now I just have to move some corals out of its way lol
  15. So I have had this rainbow tip anemone for 4 months he was doing great. I feedback him squid once a week. I feed him a bigger piece then usual yesterday and now he split. Did I do something wrong? I am also waiting two week to do 15 percent water change since I want to see if I can do that my params are as follows: 1.028 79 Nitrates .08 Phosphate 0 Calcium 415 Alk 9.2 Mag1450 Oh I have been dosing strodium iodine and potassium. He hasn't moved in 3 months now the two are going in different directions?
  16. Yea so the bubbles are not making it up to the top of the skimmer. The skimmer is 6 months old and I have never had a full cup of skim. It has not run properly since day 1. I live in Herndon and would greatly appreciate the help origami. I am free Thursday and Friday this week or any day next week if you don't mind helping a new reefer.
  17. Sorry I should have told everyone background about my tank. My tank has been running for about 6 months now. I have 1 yellow tang 1 potter angle 1 sixline wrasse and 2 chromis. I feed once a day a turkey baster with mysis and brine shrimp. I also use a 2x2 inch sheet of algae once a week. I will attach pictures later to show you my issues. Coralvue has not been helpful in assisting me. Orgami: I turned the gate valve completely closed and the bubbles are still not making it even half way up the cylinder. Would you recommend sealing the bottom of the skimmer with some type of sealant to create a secure seal?
  18. So I need help I am at my wits end with my protein skimmer. The bubbles are not reaching the top and I have fully closed the vavle to it and still nothing. Idk what I'm doing wrong and it's at 8 inches deep and I can't get it to skim properly any ideas. I have cleaned it and tried multiple things(exp cleaned the air line, took the whole body apart, cleaned the pump) what else am i missing? Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks
  19. Trust me I have been here and everyone is going to jump on me for this but whatever. Ich is not a death sentence we all agree on that. My treatment method since I don't have qt nor am I patient enough to stand one up is take your lumps and do what you can. What I mean by this is your gonna have some fish die its part of the hobby (your lumps) its vicious cycle of life. Now doing what you can keep stable parameters, taking out aggressive tank mates can help. I have also run so Called "snake oil remedies" you can try if you want I live in Herndon and I have used it on my reef tank. Another option is to take him out place him in a 5-gallon bucket with SG 1.10 and temp of 80 degrees. High heat help disease cycle faster and low gravity of salt helps them breathe. Also please don't buy fish from Petco or any place like that. I make sure when i buy fish they LFS at least did a QT but honestly all tanks have ich and if they stress there going to get it. Good luck man
  20. Hi Everyone, I know there has been a common thread out there where people ask this before I just can't seem to find it. I am going to Germany for 6 days and I need someone to check after my tank. I talked to a few LFS but they want me to sign a continued service contract which I don't want. Is there any members in the Herndon area who would be willing to swing by and check up on my tank. I will pay you, of course, I just need you to feed the fish and make sure everything hasn't imploded lol.
  21. Hey so I have a 14g biocube is there any cheap ways to add an auto top off to the backchamber without removing the hood? Also what other mods do people do that have worked or that didn't work. Trying to get an idea I currently have two clowns in the tank as a qt but I want to make it a desktop nano tank. I bought ecoxotic leds I'm installing tom any other suggestions? Thanks
  22. So I have been reading the forums and everyone seems to feed their corals. Is this a must or can they depend on lighting and natural water changes to grow? My Hammer has grown a new head and my torch is growing as well. If you do feed them what are the pros and Cons? I do put phytoplankton in the tank but I don't know if these is comparable to Reef roids or other additives and I honestly just feel lost on these topics? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, -Matt
