  1. So I’ve had this blue tang for 1 year. He is the bane to my existence. He looks like fish who just stumbled across a mine field. His back tail is eroded and he has like sunken in tummy, however I bought him from reef escape so I don’t think it’s parasite. I think it’s hile. But none of my other tangs look bad and I don’t think I have poor water quality. No signs of excessive algae I have some diatoms nothing crazy. I feed tons or nori brown, red , green and purple I mix up the feedings one sheet a day. I feed mysis in sylcon everyday as well. I don’t know what I’m missing. I know blue tangs can hide in the rocks but I think this is worse. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. So today when feeding my fish I feed my DT and went down stairs to feed mysis. I use a turkey Baster to feed them and I totally blanked and took water from the qt system that has copper in it. My question is now can I use the turkey baster again or no since it was exposed to copper? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. The only comment I have is my leopard wrasse ate all my shrimps and inverts. I love the build though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Hi everyone thanks again for help. I want to upgrade my aqua maxx cone 2 skimmer to something bigger. I was looking at these 4 options and I would like to know what people recommend and what they use. My tank size is 180 gallons with 30 gallon sump. Options: Bubble magus curve 7 Reef octopus 202-S Regal 150-int Quatum 160 Thanks again and please feel free to make recommendations. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Oh cool thank you Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. So...my clowns finally laid eggs and I know the eggs won’t survive but it has me thinking. How hard would it be to raise clowns? I know people have done it in our club and I’m just curious how you did it? Steps or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. -Matt Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. So after doing a little research it seems all natural vinager with 5% acid is the best. I did read though it lowers PH and can dull SPS and can have negative effect on anemones. Anyone want to chime in on how they started dosing vinager risk or outcomes of it. And what was methodology behind it and science. I know it’s a carbon source and it’s lower than vodka but just tell me what you ran with it (ex kalk paste and ro water). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. So this is interesting I was thinking of doing biopellets as well. What vinegar do you guys use then? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Yea I’m not good at taking photos I’m going to start practicing some more and see if I can get some better shots. Oh I forgot to add current livestock: 3 clowns, leopard wrasse, melanarus wrasse, yellow tang and diamond goby. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Updates So I hit a snag and learned some lessons. One alway qt untrustworthy fish stores and two make sure you test at least weekly. The tank is starting to look good I’m adding more sps my wishlist for next couple months: sunset milli, strawberry shortcake Afro, red planet acro and green planet acro. My biggest challenges is making sure levels are stable. Sorry I’m using Tapatalk so pictures are pasting in weird. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. So this is an interesting conversation piece! So in my opinion after not doing qt and getting ick and buying 200 dollars worth of qt I will now say I splurge the extra 20 bucks on a healthy fish from trusted store. What is a trusted store well reef escape has a very well laid out qt program I trust by talking to the owners and staff. I think spending the 20 min convo on what does your qt procedure entail. Get a feeling for a trusted store. Anyways I have killed 4 fish in 4 years of reef keeping and I can say it’s a bad feeling. I have learned from my mistakes and my way is buying from trusted stores for more money. Just my thoughts. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Hey everyone thanks for the advice. Maybe I will stick with the aqua maxx and keep playing with it. My water level is stable and my nutrient levels aren’t bad by any means. It sits 71/2 inches in my sump which is the recommended level.I guess I’m envious of that dark skin mate lol. Another question do you see a lot of skim caking the neck of the skimmer. I literally have to scrape the neck every two weeks with a paper towel and RO water. Does that mean I’m doing something wrong? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. So I have had two skimmers and I’ve seemed to struggle with both them. I have had a reef octopus 150-s and aqua maxx cone-2 skimmer. My major issue is I can never get them dialed in and skimming that dark skim. I’ve tried everything and I can never get a dark skim mate on them. So I’ve starting looking for a new skimmer and I need help. I’m looking for a skimmer for a 180 gallon tank. I want it to be relatively easy to dial in. I’m also curious what skimmer people are using and having the most success with. My current option have been: Nyos, bubble mags curve 7, sca302. My current stock list: 3 clowns, yellow tang, hippo tang, powder blue, leopard wrasse and Melanesia wrasse. I really want a skimmer to be able to handle a big bio load and be straight forward. Thanks in advance for all your help. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Hi everyone, I’m in the market for a test kit to test: cal, alk, mag, phos and nitrates. I wanna know what people use that they trust. I had a Red Sea test kit for calc, alk and mag but does anyone ever feel that water volume if not precise can skew the tests? Just looking out there what everyone tests. 15. I just watched this yesterday. Very interesting. Honestly I believe any light will work as long as the nutrients are there. https://www.bulkreefsupply.com/video/view/brstv-investigates-what-is-the-best-refugium-light-and-what-is-coming-next/ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  18. It’s been awhile since I’ve updated you guys. I’m finally almost done cycling. I have zero ammonia’s and I’m at .25 nitrates. So it’s going good. I added a Melanarus wrasse and a CUC. I also added a refugium light and some cheato to help nitrates. I also added a test piece of gsp to judge when it would be ok to add my rocks and corals back. But everything is going good so far. I’m still learning how to setup the apex and it’s the next task for next week. This hobby is always interesting with new challenges! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. Yea I did drip loops I basically am stuck with the power supply’s there 3 of them. Man mad weasel yours looks so clean I’m very jealous Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Thanks you guys. I just wanted them on for the shot. I’ve been keeping them off like you said. I’m seeding the tank with live rock I hope it cycles quick. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. I just stood up my 180 gallon tank. I'm happy with everything except the sump area. I have so many power supplies and cables I was curious how everyone else manages them. Do they run them through PVC or what? Any help would greatly be appreciated.
  22. Tank is up and cycling. Ugh the waiting game begins. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. So after a year and a half we broke down our 65 gallon Red Sea reefer and sold it since we were moving. We decided with a new house we needed a new bigger Tank. Dsparri(aka dan) was the mastermind with helping us. He housed all are live stock from our 65 gallon while we were in transition. We bought a 180 gallon from LiveWire and began our build. Dan helped with the move and the plumbing. It’s been a process. Here is some teaser shots of what it looked like and what it somewhat looks like now. As far as specs go: were running 3 ocean revive t247. filtration will be marinepure Spears, aquamaxx cone 2 skimmer, santimonica algae scrubber, jebao 10000 return pump and gyre maxspect 150 , 5 manigroves with Cheeto and 160 pounds of rock and 160 pounds of sand. .
