  2. My skunk cleaner shrimp harasses my anemone, when the clowns are not around I saw it rip one of the tentacles! I never read anywhere that a shrimp can be capable of doing this.
  3. Hi, I currently have a mandarin dragonet in my QT, he arrived fine and active. I want to find out from experienced reefers how they trained their mandarin to eat pellets. Mine doesn't even eat live food forget pellets or frozen food. When mine arrived, he was active and moving around and his belly was not that hollow - I started with frozen mysis shrimp with selecon and garlic but it didnt attract the mandarin. I use capelin roe to no avail. The only thing he is marginally eating are trigger pods, that too not eagerly hunting them, eating them slowly even if they are swimming right in front of his mouth he doesnt eat trigger pods right away. I used live brine shrimp and live bloodworms too but he doesn't eat them. I have housed him into a small .5 gallon refugium so his food will be all around him. That didn't seem like its making him hungry. Any tips?
  4. My 2 cent experience with QT/Hospital tank: 1. Always keep the tank covered since its a smaller tank with more fish in it, they are more prone to carpet surf (my purple dottyback jumped out of the tank when I kept my lid open for 15 mins since temp inside the tank got to 80F) 2. Having a egg crate like partition within QT is advised if there are bigger/aggessive fish. (eg: My small yellow tang killed two clowns and cardinal in Hospital tank due to small space, I have 1 small yellow tang, 2 small clowns and 1 cardinal in 10g)
  5. I know what you are going through since I am and the end of Fallow phase of with my tank. Although I removed the tankmates into Hospital tank, they started dying as result of dips, agressive tankmates in smaller tank, and my cardinal died because it didnt eat well in hospital tank. Its not fun having multiple tanks setup all around the home feeding them, checking their ammonia parameters and water changes while keeping display fallow for 70+ days.
  6. As a retrospective, I have experienced the same - if I didn't feed and water is clean my corals are wide open like they may blow themselves up, and if there are particles floating around water, the corals are semi open. Not sure if this is a true correlation of not.
  7. Amazing pictures! I love the hammer/frogspawn garden you created! the leather looks amazing as well.
  8. Does anyone have experience using para guard in reef tank with inverts and corals Sps/LPS? My juvenile clownfish is having some dusty white spots on its body, fins which are not sticking to its skin like a sore or spot. My orchid dottyback is flashing on a rock sometimes although I don't see any spots or redness. All fish eating well and normal behavior except some flashing by dottyback.
  9. The only other thing I could think about is, if the container is not clean, it could trigger growth of some algae and bacteria in that water - especially if you used that container for removing old tank water.
  10. Thanks for this excellent article, had been searching for it.
  11. I dont know what I type there myself
  12. I use gyre 130 and my old complain with it is: it doesn't leave any spot for a weaker flow. its good in one sense that it doesn't leave dead spots but at same time placing corals which require low water flow gets tricky.
  13. Thanks Origami for the tip. YHSublime, just a note, I did some research that seahorses need more vertical space to swim rather than horizontal space.
  14. Are you planning to bring lightening strike clove polyps to the event?
  15. See if those are microscopic pods which you think are particles. Stop the flow and watch if these particles are moving by themselves in random directions on their own rather than going with the water flow. If its pods those are good for you and you dont need to worry about it (except that you are not ecstatically happy that its not crystal clear)
