  1. With all the frag swapping and using rock and stuff from other tanks, I am not suprised if that statement is true. Although having double QT tanks like Copps mentioned he does even for his Corals may make a difference. I got Ick in my tank from introducing an anemone from other tank breakdown, I wouldn't be suprised if introducing inverts could do the same.
  2. Did the bare bottom and changed it back to sand today. problem with bare bottom: algae growth, bacterial film growth. Detritus accumulate and eventually stick
  3. The best treatment I have done so far is with Chloroquine Phosphate (CP), All it needs is a dark aquarium settings since light breaks the CP. It treats a wide variety of fish ailments easier than Copper treatment. It should only be done in hospital tank without any inverts/corals. There is some fish food which has CP laced into it to treat Ick as well.
  4. You need light, food once in a while and flow of water.
  5. Im thinking of going barebottom with live rock, why do we need to have starboard ? does it add any functional value? Wouldn't detritus get piled below the starboard and to the sides of it?
  6. Hi, I am starting a new FOWLR tank with 75gallon tank and sump. 1. Can anyone suggest me what type of LED lights would work best for FOWLR setup, looking for basic LED lights which still bring good coloration to my fish. (not looking for T5s) 2. I am planning to go with bare bottom and live rock, I don't want to deal with algae, cyano etc. Hoping that high flow of water periodically should get the detritus and debris out into the sump. Do you see any disadvantage of not having sand bed (understand that some fish need sand to burrow, lot looking to host such fish). Thanks
  7. If LED light fixture is getting hot, usually it is to do with the circuit board, something is not working well and heating (capacitors etc), the LEDs themselves are not generating a lot of heat. (Unless your room temperature itself is 80-90F). Last time I had this issue on my maxspect razors, it started heating up due to saltwater spill when I was working on my tank. I had to replace the circuit board for 20$ and its all back to normal.

  12. Hi all, I am planning to move my home and I have 1 sm yellow tang, 1 sm blue tang , 2 clown fish, 1 fire shrimp and 2 sand conch snails. I am planning to break down the current tank and set up a new 40 gallon tank with cycled/live rock and move the livestock to the new tank. any idea if they will survive this? The move is just 1 hr away. Are there anythings to consider or tip to make it practical so they survive for sure. Will initial 5 gallon water change every 3 days help with the spike in nitrogen cycle? This will be a temporary holding tank for a month until I setup a new tank and move them slowly into the new aquarium. thanks
  13. it would be <100 gallons I am looking at.
  14. Hi guys, I am planning to move my existing tank and buy a bigger tank in the near future. Are there any tools I should use to make it easier/safer to carry the tank around the home - load/unload? I have see some suction cup like handles in some pictures but don't know what brand and type will support the aquarium which can weigh 100 lb. Appreciate any pointers, links etc.
  15. Hi, I need your help ID'ing the exact coral if you know it. 1. I was told its brain coral, not sure what exactly this is since there are so many type of brain coral. Its around 2 inches diameter and has another small head on the side. 2. I bought this one as a golden neon green hammer, this doesn't branch like the regular neon green hammer and its extensions are all greenish golden hue in color. Glows bright second only to my trumpet coral. When its ready to multiple its base expands and creates another group of extensions. Sorry the pics appear out of orientation.
  16. It is always tricky, and depends on how long the anemone is attached to the rock. One way I tried was using an old creditcard and try to slowly slide the card under the foot of anemone, (Try not to be too hard to damage its foot), if the anemone is giving up its feet on the rock when I push the card it means it is ready to move, if its still not moving its feet I don't suggest trying to use any extra force. The most daunting experience while trying to remove anemone is the clownfish trying to fight your hand and bump it hard. good luck moving your anemone.
