  1. Planning to start around 9 am. Are you interested in carpooling?
  2. Dave W must be volunteering on Thursday...I guess.
  3. Sounds good. Are you attending other two days too? Saturday and Sunday?
  4. Its in the app store. I downloaded it yesterday.
  5. Anyone from VA willing to carpool to MACNA over this weekend? Preferably from Dulles/Reston areas.
  6. Didn't seem like that...the piece on the right must be really big piece...where did you order the rock from? BRS?
  7. Looking good...how many lbs of rock is that?
  8. I made a screen with bird netting from local hardware store...it worked out great..I didn't have like tiny fish...so I was okay. That was for my old tank. I am planning to do the same for my new tank as well.
  9. Awesome looking tank. You are right...its hard to find a shadow...I hope it will be the same case with my setup as well. Anyway...how up above the tank did you mount the lights?
  10. Nice looking fish. Are they hardy enough for a newly cycled tank?
  11. My tank has a brace in the middle...I think a long unit like 2080 would cause dark shade under this brace in the middle of the tank. Wish the tank didn't have the middle brace or I should have gone with rimless tank.
  12. Hello!!! I want to start off thanking all the members who took time in answering my questions, providing valuable suggestions and commenting to my posts. Its been more than a year in this hobby...had to shutdown my previous tank 8 months after it was setup due to a move...I had a good success given my experience and my equipment (no sump, HOB skimmer...). Anyway, I was not sure if I would stay in the hobby after the move...no surprise...one month after I shutdown my tank I started to miss it. Here I am with my new setup...bought stand and tank from a fellow member...very happy with that...always wanted a shallow tank...rimless would have been ideal...but had to compromise on few things for me stay in the hobby. Just wanted to share some pictures. Provide any suggestions or comments. New Setup: Deep Blue 80 Gallon Shallow Reef Ready with Herbie overflow (very silent...I can hear my return pump but nothing from my overflow...really like it!) 34 Gallon Trigger Systems Emerald sump Bubble Magus Curve 7 Evergrow IT2080 LED fixture - this is what I have currently...still debating...go with this or two IT2040's or a totally different LED fixture Return Pump: Sicce Syncra 50 lbs of BRS Dry Pukani rock (cycling started in a brute can) 70 lbs of Seaflor Caribsea sand 2 Jebao RW-8's Miss my old tank:
  13. Its Royal Gramma...a species of basslet. I got one of them from ERC last year. Its really a good looking fish.
  14. Thanks guys! I will not use any of the water from trash can. Need to make 20 more gallons over the weekend now. Cant imagine how big my water bill is going to be this month!!!
  15. I have been cycling 80 lbs of dry pukani rock in a 32 gallon brute trash can for past 2-3 months. I changed the water two times in the first month and when I noticed that the water was clear of dead rock debris...I stopped water changes...later was busy and never bothered checking the water parameters. This weekend, my tank should be ready for water...I prepared 80 gallons of saltwater over last couple of days...the question I have is...should I re-use some of the water from the trash can where the rock was cycled into my new tank or just use the freshly prepared saltwater. I feel like re-using some of the water as it may have some beneficial bacteria...but again its not been tested and could be a nitrate pool. What do you suggest?
  16. Thanks and I agree. I will have to do more research on this. Perhaps on my next upgrade I will switch to APEX controller.
  17. I am almost done with the plumbing. I pretty much went with the above plan except for these two deviations. - I read that we can't Tee off a herbie drain. So gate valve 'A' is gone. That means, drainage of water at the time of water changes is a manual step. - I haven't plumbed RODI water connection for ATO. So gate valve 'E' is not present at this time. I plan to do it...but not sure when.
