  1. Thanks! It's a labor of love. No, unfortunately I can't have a sump where the tank is now. It is sitting on a marble shelf above two cabinets in our living room, that are built into our place. If we did not sublet our condo I would totally do some drilling and get one piped in. Right now I make do with my skimmer put into my modified Tunze streamfilter, and the zeo reactor & carbon bag in a modified AC 70. Once I get my hood finished up I want to rescape, right now the lighting is a bit uneven so I have a lot of the rocks and corals piled onto the right side under the LEDs. I have flirted with the idea of possibly putting a sump behind or to the side of the tank, but when I researched online it looked like it was going to be more trouble then what it is worth. I have thought about building a stand and moving the tank so I can put in a sump because I would love to be able to hide all the contraptions (plus the numerous benefits of having a sump), but my fiancee will have a s***fit if I spend any more money or time on this tank! Plus we are planning to move at the end of the year, so when we do, I'll be able to upgrade and definitely put in a sump, and a nice big skimmer to I can keep on overfeeding
  2. I'm just honored to have THE Paul B comment on my thread :p
  3. Not sure about MAP enforcement, but there is little difference across the board in price on the interwebs. Zeo works, but it's crazy expensive. Occasionally someone has a used bottle on the selling portion of the nationwide reef forums. I would just go to QR and get coral snow and zeo bak, bio mate def enhances it but is not a necessity. Later on when the yearly zeo sale is on you could stock up on all the sups you want. CV is awesome, but like Ducati said it's only for well established ULNS, otherwise it will just amplify red slime growth.
  4. So this is now a sump less 20 long, run with full zeo method. Would love a sump but no space till we move. DIY zeo reactor, DIY airstone skimmer, DIY heater controller, with a nanobox reef and StormX controller for lighting. Finishing up my DIY canopy this week hopefully. Adding about 50 more watts of LEDs as well as a T5HO with a kz fiji purple to fill in the gaps. I guess I like to build things :p I def recommend the nano box, Dave Fason makes a high quality unit that simply cannot be captured in pictures. I don't like the windex look but here is how the nano box looks.
  5. +1 to this. Also, this won't help with your skimming, but pohls xtra does wonders for any corals. Increased polyp extension, good coloration etc. I'm also a fan of the b balance mixed with sponge power.
  6. They do a yearly sale in October. Zeovit USA. Also QR has all the blue bottles at good prices.
  7. No one got wealthy paying full price...just sayin
  8. Petco in Leesburg isn't bad. Not too big a fan of the one in Seven Corners when the girl tried to convince me a marine betta would do fine in a 10 gallon :p
  9. I made a controller with a home depot trip and this temperature controller. Note it is the just the heat controller and not the dual channel. Perfect for running two heaters and all together cost $25. I keep one of my heaters plugged in the wall GFCI and the other goes into the heat controller outlet.
  10. Eh, depends on how warm you keep your house. If you keep it at 65, your undersized heater would probably be struggling keeping things in the tank warm. Best bet, TWO undersized heaters with one set below your target temp.

  12. I've been to petland, not a bad store but I prefer qr or reef escape when they are open
  13. He loves Nanobox because Dave made him a custom one lol. Great light though. I agree, haven't heard of most of those lights and the D120 is obviously absent because RB didn't get one :p
  14. You can, make sure some cs is in there too. I wouldn't overlap dosing biomate with zz until after 24 hrs for either.
  15. I double dose cs with weekly water change, along with half dose zeobak. I put the mix directly in the freshly mixed sw, before adding to tank.
  16. I dose zz 2-3times a week. Mix with tank water and 1 drop zeobak, keep covered and let sit over night. Before putting in tank I put in 1mL cs.
  17. Yes the flocculants! I was telling my gf it was ancient german magic but I like your explanation better.
  18. I was thinking about getting the nano instead of DIYing a float switch set up, so the general consensus is the osmolator is not worth the money?
  19. Sorry for the crappy cell pic. This is out of DIY Skimmer I made out of a perrier bottle I got for 1.29 from whole foods with 3 ebay limewood airstones, one million air pump (dual output plumbed together), and religious use of zeozym. Can't praise this stuff enough. Before I started using the zeozym, I always skimmed out light brown to slightly lighter brown skimmate. Now I pull out this funk on the regular. I do feed heavy, but as a longtime fish keeper I don't think "underfeeding" is best for fish health, even if it does keep maintaining your tank params easier.
