    That's super interesting about the high/low experiment. I haven't seen the results, but I wonder if it was high and low but balanced.

    Ok...now here is something to confuse all the theories above I switched to Kalk, raised my Alk levels just a little, and LOWERED flow because I removed an MP10. Branches are growing out skinny. So strange......

    Been testing. Crazy swings in phosphates!! Once the get down below 5 or 10 I'll be putting them in the tank.

    The two that you hear the most about, and could get advice on, are the Neptune Apex and the Digital Aquatics controllers.

    That was me. He was like Jason from Friday the 13th. He even eyeballed me through the glass. Mean dude. I gave him to someone with an aggressive tank. He's doing fine.

    I used the Digital Aquatics for years. Very simple and easy to use. They don't have as many add-on options as Neptune, but it does get the job done. Very dependable and I hear they have a new version coming out.

    No worries. I felt obligated to share my experience with my fellow reefers. They obviously need to resolve their customer service issues.

    Ok ok. I bought some cheap IKEA plastic brackets for .50 each and a $1.50 acrylic cutting board. I cut the board down and bam. Done.

    I don't do hawk fish. Had a bad experience. Only peaceful fish.

    So thanks for all the input. Looks like the general consensus is that I should just bite the bullet and put a screen on. I'll probably do that. So my pencil list is: Canthigaster puffer of some kind Pajama Cardinals (3-4) Bristletooth Tang or Yellow Eyed A couple of mandarins down the road (1 or 2 years) Chalk Bass (2)

    Just a little curious about them. I've heard mixed opinions. I'm starting a shallow reef and love the colors. I'm just starting my research on nems. I had a bubble tip about 10 years ago, but that doesn't really count. I'm blown away by the colors.

    There are lots of ways to skin a cat depending on the application. Just think it through and pick the right one.

    Some people I really respect have suggested peroxide, I just haven't had the guts to try it. In fact, every time I have talked about hair algae growing on my frag plugs, someone has suggested just dipping them in peroxide. I've just never done it. Obviously it works.
