  1. Need more data. Bump
  2. I just do what Brian said above. Heavy skimming and GFO. He also needs to do some testing along the way and use RODI from now on. Once the parameters are under control, or headed the right direction, then mow the grass.
  3. I didn't tell you about my MACNA experience with Apex. Haha I setup the big Red Sea tank and lighting for the Apex booth with Quantum Reefs. I hung out with the Apex guys a lot and helped them a lot. Thursday night I went out to have a smoke with one of the guys. I said "I like Neptune stuff, but you really suck at customer service". He said "What do you mean?". I told him my username on Neptune....Reefer Madness. He said "oh $#*t". I laughed. I wrote a really mean letter and sent my correspondence to corporate back when I wrote this thread. Neptune never did write me back. I told them I would see them at MACNA. Hahaha.
  4. Since my new Kalk stirrer doesn't fit, I mounted it
  5. Decided to get organized. I harnessed the OCD in me. IKEA DIY Was this:
  6. Just curious about this one. The suggested range is between 7-11 dKH or 125-200 ppm. That's a pretty big range and I'm curious what everyone's personal goal is. Mine is 170 ppm or 9.5 dKH.
  7. I'm going to break some "rules" on this tank and get a small puffer. A Blue Spotted Puffer aka Blue Dot Toby.
  8. I've read it does great up to about 110g my net volume is about 125g. We'll see!!
  9. Good idea. I may give that a try. In a look down I think this would be awesome.
  10. I actually tied it into my display 60g cube. I have a Vertex 130 taking care of both. I may need to upsize at some point.
  11. Just the dry rocks. Last time I used them, I had a spike in the phosphates. The leaked phosphates for about a month.
  12. True. I have 3 and the only sound I hear is dripping off the plastic screws holding my adjustable weir in place. The biggest sound mistake is when people have too much return water and the drain "flushes" but that is an install issue, not a drain issue.
  13. Also, do you think throwing a heater in there at a some high temperature would help?
  14. I am "cooking" some marco rocks in a Brute with a powerhead and some GFO in a media bag. How long do you think I should cook them for, before the phosphates are basically gone?
  15. Great taste! I like the way you think.
  16. Thanks for the insight.
  17. Here is what you need. $6. Reef Central has a thread about it. 100s of colors to experiment with. It is a sample book for all theater gels by Rosco
  18. Thanks for the info. That's exactly the feedback I was looking for. If I had a way of trapping one on a rock by itself that would be sweet, but I plan to have a few colonies and I would hate to push it. I would hate even more to lose a coral because of an "itchy foot". Do they let go and float when they are moving or do they crawl? I ask because maybe I could put a pillar rock that is surrounded by sand. I assume it wouldn't crawl down away from the light. Maybe that would keep him on that one rock? Keep in mind I have no idea what I am talking about but just trying to apply logic to Mother Nature. Thoughts?
  19. Talk about weird.... over the last 2 weeks my Hawkins has taken off in a growth spurt. Every branch/twig has grown like 3/8" and turned purple. Crazy. I'll post picks.
  20. I've never had bubble tip anenomes before. How would one be in this new mixed reef?
  21. Too many commitments! So far here is what I have decided: ATI 48" T5 fixture Medium sand bottom Just got a 130 Gyre today And I have one clown and a cleaner shrimp That's it... Planning to do mixed reef with lots of creatures (i.e. Starfish, clams, fish, etc)
  22. Depends on where you go. My wife and I go to the USVI so every picture normally comes out blue blue. I brought a red GoPro filter and our pics came out perfect. We only snorkel and dive down for pics. That was taken with a Silver Hero4 with a red lens
  23. A McCosker's wrasse would be fine in your tank. You do need a screen though. They get along with everyone. One of my favorite wrasses of all time.
