  1. +1 I can confirm that they are very easy to fix
  2. ok not to Hijack th thread or anything, but I literally switched out the drivers on my Evergrow within the last 20 min and now I have a working evergrow again, there was no soldering to do at all, I just unsnapped some connections and took out a few screws Sorry you can have your thread back now, I will start a new thread and post pics
  3. the light didn't shock anything, it was in there about 10-15seconds, only 1 channel works right now I will probably switch out the driver and see if I can get it fixed, one of the nice things about ERC is they usually have the parts on hand to repair these fixtures. I would definitely recommend giving them a shot, you cant go wrong for the money, my only regret is not going with the IT programable series, I went with the cheaper D2040's I have them hooked up to some timers and it works but I wish now that I would have spent the extra money for the programable lights. I will document my repair job and post it if I am successful
  4. wow I had to GTS, never heard of one before, very nice
  5. I use the Evergrow lights on my 90, I got them from ERC. they are all pretty much the same, no matter where you buy them from, I got mine from ERC because they are on of the WAMAS sponsors and they have a 3yr warranty, however I'm petty sure the warranty wont cover the one that fell in my tank this weekend. They are great lights for the price, not quite as sleek as Radions but they do the job, I have a LPS dominant tank and everything is doing great, I also have some of the easier SPS Corals (birsdnest, Monti Cap & Setosa) that are showing very good growth and color.
  6. good call on the 75Gal, are you building a custom stand? if so you still have a couple of days (Jan 24) to pick up a 40B from petco with the $PG sale, that's pretty much the best sump layout you can get for the money, however they dont really fit that well in the pre fab stands as they are the same width as the 75/90Gals. I have a 29 Gal sump on my 90 gal and I wish I would have built my own stand to get a 40B under there instead, I would say a 5 gal ATO will need to be filled up about once a week so if you can fit a 10 Gal reservoir, that's your best bet, I bought the Tsunami ATO with the Toms aqua lifter and it works great.
  7. Can you post a picture? Honestly, its really quite difficult to kill birdsnest, I know its an SPS but they really do well under most conditions. trust me I cant keep xenia and Kenya trees alive but my Birdsnest grows like crazy
  8. No plan really, I have a little 4 gal Cube I was going to convert into a little pico tank, I dont think the cheap 1w led light that came with it will be good enough, and due to the size I am limited on options, I bought some 3w leds and a Heatsink, I'm going to try a little DIY LED
  9. yeah, I was there the day the guy brought him in, they did a great job taking care of it and nursing it back to health, but unfortunately, it was still stuck in a tiny tank, so I had to take him/her home.
  10. lol, yeah, it all started with a $30 piece of Frogspawn for me and my FOWLR
  11. That's exactly how the Hippo tang ended up in my tank.
  12. Welcome, I have a 90 gal and it's a nice size tank but IMO I would just get a 75gal as it's the same footprint and you can get away with smaller equipment, that being said bigger is always better so a 6' tank gives you way more fish choices. It's just my opinion so take it for what it's worth, but the best thing about a Fish only setup is that you can get some beautiful non reef safe fish, unfortunately a lot of them require 6' tanks to be happy, just something to consider, especially if your going for Hippo tangs and triggers. to answer your question about tank sizes, I would say that the length x width are more important than the volume of water, a 120 gal deep is still only 4' long where as a 120 long is 6'. agin that's just my opinion, I am by no means an expert. again welcome to WAMAS, this is by far the best Forum to be a member of.
  13. I got a piece from a friend than was all skeleton with about 3mm on the tip of 1 branch still alive, I put it on a frag rack about 2 months ago and it came back, the base still looks dead but the rest of it is growing well
  14. Yup I just saw the 330 gal breakdown, i'm still drooling
  15. Thanks Isaac, I came down on Orders for Hawaii for the end of the year, my wife wont let me set up the big tank, but i'm pretty sure sh's going to Florida in the spring so I'll have a week or 2 to sneak it into the house. although I hear divorces can be pretty expensive these days.
  16. About 8 months ago I was at a LFS picking up some live food for my reef tank, I did my usual window shopping and noticed a near death, torn up and malnourished hippo tang in one of the tanks, I asked one of the guys what had happened to it and he told me someone had brought it in that morning, apparently it had been living in a 10-20 gal aquarium with another tang and a couple of other fish for the last couple of years. I always check on the fish every time I visit the store and see it chilling in the tank with a big NFS sign on the glass, I spoke with some of the employees recently about if they would let it go to a new home as it was still living in a tiny tank, and finally today was the day, they agreed to let me take it home, I gave them $20 for it and I'm pretty sure he's as good as he's going to get, he only has 1 eye he has no Dorsal fin left and his tail fin has a chunk taken out of it and he's full of scars, but I think he's the coolest fish ever. I know even a 90Gal isn't really big enough for a Hippo Tang but considering he has spent his whole life in less than 20gal I think he's going to be pretty happy in my tank, I do have the 6' 120 gal sitting in the garage that may or may not ever get set up, I know every time I get a new fish it becomes my favorite fish, but I have a feeling this guy, may keep the title longer than most. Thanks Craig
  17. wont make this one, but they are a lot of fun, hope to make the spring meet.
  18. yeah it doesn't look that bad, could just be tank maturing like Gmerek said, however I would still look into getting an RO/DI, I'm all about cutting corners but water quality to me is the most important thing.
  19. I bought a GFO reactor from BRS, but you could make on out of pretty much anything, you just need water to pas through it and back into your tank, a Maxijet powerhead works well. as far as Vodka dosing, yes you just put a little in your tank each day, I started out with about 3ml and went up 1-2ml per week until Nitrates came down then I started lowering Volume of Vodka until it started to go back up, then you have your magic # stick with that and it should help. I have a 90 gal tank with a 30gal sump so if your running a smaller end tank start with a very small amount, likewise if it's a big setup you can add a little extra
  20. Forgot you moved, lucky I didnt try and swing by your place this week to pick up the birdsnest
  21. mine run about 9 hrs for whites and 11hrs for blues, I have algae growth now, but that's mainly because I went away for 6 wks and didnt do a WC, I have started regular WC again and added a GFO and it has died off again
  22. about 8-10hrs is what seems to be the norm
  23. a little bit too much light, you could try Vodka dosing until you get an RO/DI
