  1. well I doulbt if anyone on any forum will tell you that RODI is not a good idea, I have read a number of threads debating lighting, sump vs canister or HOB and whether or not a skimmer is really needed, but as far as where you get your water, the answer is always use RODI
  2. Welcome, just checked out your web page looks good so far. Good luck in the new year
  3. rarely do I have a bad experience at any LFS, but I have to agree that Richard goes above and beyond for his customers, I consider him a good friend rather than a vendor, as far as money spent, I am probably on the lower end of his customers, but the treatment I get whenever I buy from ERC makes me feel like I'm his best Customer. Keep up the good work, I'm glad others feel the same way I do. Craig
  4. I have to agree with Coral Hind, I dont see how 1 Fish with that much water volume could cause that many problems with easily over 100gal of water volume, I have a 90 Gal with a 29gal sump, I feed my system about 20-25 live ghost/feeder shrimp every month, some live for weeks others die within an hour or so, but I just leave them for my CuC, I never notice a spike in anything, even with dead and or decaying shrimp in my system.
  5. do you do your WC's downstairs or in the kitchen area where the DT is?
  6. awesome I love DeepBlue tanks, good luck, i'll be looking for a build thread soon
  7. not sure what to tell you, I ran a canister on a 29 Biocube for quite a while without any issues, but I didnt really think it was doing much on my 40B so I went to a sump, if that's an option it might be worth the switch, Petco has a $PG sale right now so you could do a DIY sump for pretty cheap
  8. I use an old D120 I used to have on an old frag tank, I used to use a regular shop light and led similar to the one listed above, I get better growth out of the evergrow but I wouldn't recommend spending spending the money on one. the increase in growth doesnt justify the cost difference IMO. a regular CFL or LED light works fine and takes up less room
  9. yeah, if your not on a budget the taller tank is nice, I wasnt sure what your price range was, and for $45 you're not getting a better deal than a 40B but if you have a little bigger budget then I would say look into some of the Deep Blue tanks, Richard at ERC gave me a good deal on some 30gal frag tanks before, also there is a 48 Gal Mr aqua at KoC for $250 in Frederick, not sure about the dimensions or you could check with Reef E Scape, they usually have a nice selection of used tanks and equipment. B.L.U.F. talk to the Wamas Vendors, you will be surprised at some of the deals you can get, especially if your not too picky about the exact dimensions of the tank.
  10. another question, or 2 what lights are you using?, also what's the trash can for under the tank?
  11. maybe a 40B might be the way to go then, I know it doesnt sound much more than a 29 BIocube, but it is a lot more surface area, and I think hey are around $46.00 after taxes right now with the $ PG sale at petco.
  12. http://wamas.org/forums/topic/70882-collegemans-80-shallow-reef/ http://wamas.org/forums/topic/70919-quiet-pump-for-brs-gfocarbon-reactor/?p=636945 some nice looking shallow reefs, your going to pay a little extra for the tank because of it's uncommon size, and more than likely you will have to build your own stand (the easiest D.I.Y project you will ever do in this hobby), I have 2 x ERC spec Evergrow D2040's on my 4' 90gal and they are great LED lights and you cant beat the price, you can get away with a smaller skimmer for the surface area. and most importantly they look sweet!
  13. just buy something that you will be happy with for a while, I went from a 40B to a 90 in 3 months now I'm working on a 6' 125 gal, if I would have just saved up and bought what I really wanted to begin with I would be a lot better off right now
  14. 40B have a better footprint than a 55gal honestly the best stands are the ones you build, that way you can get the height where you want it and make sure all your equipment fits under it, I think the 40B's at petco are the best way to go if this is your 1st tank, you can drill them easy and lighting will be cheaper than a 4ft tank I would consider anything less than 18" a shallow tank 24" seems to be the norm 12" or less is usually what's considered a Frag tank.
  15. I saw the 48 Gal RR Mr. Aqua Rimless at King of Coral this afternoon that Surf & Turf was talking about, they want $250 for it, I think it might be used but it looks brand new and for $250 it's a steal. any particular reason you are looking for a 50-55 gal? 75Gal would be better than a Standard 55 gal if that's what your thinking of.
  16. do you guys have a MH pendant light or something that would work for a 5 gal cube about 10" x 10" x 12"
  17. very nice, I have to move again at the end of the year, not sure if I'm going for a 6'-8' Fish only next or a shallow reef, tempted to stay away from coral until I will be somewhere for longer than a couple of years, but I love the way a reef tank looks

thanks for the info, tank looks great, light is a bit more than I want to pay for an office tank but it does look great.

are those lights standard or did you mod them? I just picked up a 3.7 gal from petco, I think it's a petco brand for a Beta, I was thinking of getting another one for my office but I think I would need to upgrade the LED's. by the time I do that I could probably buy a spec V if those are the standard lights
  20. nice clean setup, is that a 40B? sump, what size DT is that on? I have another tank project that got put on hold due to work, looks like you have plenty of room to work and easy access to your equipment.
  21. I dont on the 90 but I have already drilled the 125 for a bean animal setup, thanks for the heads up, I will most likely be using a 75 gal for my sump on the next build or at least a 40B so hopefully I will have a little more space to work with.
  22. I throw mine off my back porch onto the grass lol, it's definitely looked better but I have 8ft wide french doors a couple of feet away from my DT and my wife gets mad when I splash water through the house. no doubt that it's not good for grass, you can tell where I have been dumping it (not as green, a little thinner), but after 2 years of bi-weekly water changes 20-30gal it's still alive
