  1. You can both a DC fan and a transformer at RadioShack. I bought a 12V DC fan and ran it at 10V which made it much more quiet but moved enough air.
  2. I can't believe I missed this post. It's given me more resolve NOT to revive my 180 as a reef. I've been out long enough that I feel like an "old timer" going back to school. But this time the learning will have a different feel since I have a different perspective. I will try to learn as much as I can with my 40B build first. Thanks for your wisdom.
  3. Sorry, Josh, I can't seem to find where in your threads you mention what Coralife skimmer it is, but some skimmers (even HOBs) can be sensitive to tank water level. If the pump is under more or less water, the driving head pressure can change along with flow and put things out of whack. Unlikely the case, but just a thought.
  4. I think you can treat this light like any other with a 8-12 hour photo period, however LEDs that close could be deceivingly brighter than T5s higher up so watch out for signs of too much light. If your LR and sand is from your other tank and we'll established, you might not have much of a cycle at all!!!
  5. Wow, that install worked perfectly. I'm glad you told me about your space considerations which led me to think about giving you the light socket fixture. And it looks like just the perfect distance above the tank. Great job! I just realized that if you have any heat issues with the LED, you clearly will have adequate ventilation for the heatsink, LOL.
  6. Toddler dropping a penny in a tank because he thought it was a wishing well. Inverts love copper. Is this an urban legend or is this true?
  7. Maybe take a look at this thread. Pretty much the same boat: http://wamas.org/forums/topic/61139-lighting-for-a-12x12x12/
  8. It's starting to look more like a reef setup now. I think I'm going to put all my electronics and controller in a separate IKEA cabinet off to the side. I've always had my electrical in the stand, but I realize that it's probably more convenient and safer to have it all in a separate cabinet. The only concerns I have is that it does not look as clean and I will have to have a conduit pipe of some sort to run the wires from the tank to the cabinet. Also, some of my cords might not be long enough, but I will figure that out later. Any pointers in general??? So far what I have: Marineland 40B display Marineland 15G sump All-Glass 36x18 stand Ikea Besta Electrical Cabinet Reef Octopus BH50 Skimmer (rated for 50G) Marineland MaxiJet NJ1800 return (474 GPH) Vortech MP10 (from Nano) Aqueon 100W Pro heater ReefKeeper Lite (may switch with Apex from Nano) Tunze Osmolator BRS Dosing Pumps for B-Ionic AquaUV 8W UV Sterilizer Bean Animal 12" Overflow 3/4 inch return 30-40# BRS Reef Saver Rock 1" Special Grade Sand
  9. Woah... Cool!
  10. Looks huge! Let's light it up after tomorrow!
  11. Looking forward to pix!
  12. Meesa think it's pretty good. Me bioload is fairly low so I'm only pulling tea, though. How come fan art is better than the real thing sometimes? With Lucas that was almost always true. With JJ Abrams, I think we will boldly go where Star Wars has never gone before. Anyone else think that reefing and geeking are in the same spectrum?
  13. Orion just pulled the blast shield down on me and I couldn't see a thing... sorry. So the stock Tunze 9002 cup does not fit (it's round). I had to get this: http://shop.mediabaskets.com/Standard-Upgraded-Cup-Tunze-9002-TNZCUP.htm I did the airline mod and made an egg crate "stand" to keep the skimmer at a reasonable height.
  14. What tank, where?
  15. OMG OMG OMG, is that real?!?!?!?
  16. Well lookie here: http://wamas.org/forums/topic/50643-par30-or-par38/
  17. Might want to keep a clam. I think a PAR30 is good for softies and zoas, but I think you need to kick it up a notch with clams. I would not want to sell something that is not fit for the application.
  18. 12 inches or 12 feet? (You never know around here... ) If it's the smaller: MaxSpect Razor Nano, AI Nano, LedTric Par38, ReefBreeders Value?
  19. Is it true that Reefbreeders and Evergrow have some fixtures in common?
  20. Tagging along and following your build, Tracy I need to choose some lights, too.
  21. Thank you Bowie-Won Kenobi, you're my only hope. Don't worry, everyone. My resolve is pretty strong. But I appreciate the enthusiasm! Save for the tank itself and the lights, I have everything else: skimmer, pump, heater, controller, vortech. So I see myself sinking about $500 in equipment which is reasonable for me right now. I going to do a big fire sale of stuff I've collected over the years so hopefully I can break even. If I prove to myself that I can keep this 40B, then a couple of years down the line, the 180 will be reborn. Yes, it will be. In the meantime, swim mbuna, swim!
  22. But Master Jenn, the X-Wing... I mean tank is too big!
  23. Why do I have a distinct feeling all of the members at this AA meeting are bartenders? Alright, pour me a drink, Mister. I have a 180 reef ready a 55 sump with no baffles, a heater, and an Eheim 1262. No live rock, only sand. If I were (and I emphasize IF) to make it a reef again, what should I do to make it a nice souped up Honda Accord reef? I ain't talking to Mercedes. Ideas? Wow me WAMAS!!!
  24. You guys are not helping me, lol. But really, to ramp up to a 180 the way I want to would cost at least 3-4 times as much as the 40B. I mean going from one LED pendant to three is going from $500 to $1500. Argh! Speaking of Gollum, remember when Galadriel passed the test and was able to resist the ring?
