  1. That's great to hear! Going away is always a point of stress so glad you are free and clear.
  2. Excellent! I like to use pipe dope, erector seal, to help with threaded connections. Glad the plumbing worked out!
  3. Great work! What kind of hermits do you have? Blue-legged ones are known to be less aggressive and fine for most tanks. However, there are exceptions. I love hermits and will always have them but they have to be blue-legged.
  4. I agree, I guess I goofed the last time I tightened it and I can't, for the life of me, get it unscrewed with what I have now. I will be careful not to damage the canister but good point!
  5. I can't imagine the vibration would be that bad. I didn't add anything to soften the vibration in mine and it's pretty silent. I did add some 12x12 acoustical panels inside of the cabinet to help but I don't know if it actually does because I don't have a "before" as I put them in first day.
  6. Do you untighten the canister there too? I can't imagine you have good leverage w/ the RODI all loose.
  7. That's not a wrench... This is a wrench! For those of you, like me, that overtighten your RODI filters and don't have the leverage to loosen them. Plus, it's steel and won't soften. Comparison:
  8. Trochus for sure though I have on occasions needed to help but for the most part, they are reliable on flipping themselves over.
  9. Looks nice! How big is that clam? It looks huge!
  10. Can't figure out what coral is on there that you couldn't detach? I can't actually see any corals on there at all. One though is if your frag tank doesn't have this, will it go away by itself and w/ some help from algae eaters?
  11. Sounds good! Looking forward to it. Isn't clearview lids by adam at artfully acrylic or am I getting another lid company mixed up?
  12. Made a decision yet? Also, what are you putting in it?
  13. My only thought is the low nutrients as well, not counting any atypical situations. The live rock likely does an excellent job in regard to the nitrogen cycle including using no NO3. I'm having similar issues as my continued lack of NO3 seems to be causing problems here and there, though not the stringy stuff. I hate dosing so I'm trying every other week water changes and increased feedings instead and see where that takes me. Good luck.
  14. I applaud your efforts! Great job. The journey continues.
  15. For taller tanks you have to consider light penetration (so more light compared to a shallower tank) and don't forget maintenance. Can you reach your arm and touch the bottom? Does your shirt or pits get wet? Depending on how you aquascape and where you place corals you should also consider shadowing. Much of the above is why longer and deeper is better than taller.
  16. I think it's possible based on my experience but I have no proof. I have a pistol and then brought in a small YWG. At first, all was good and then all of a sudden, the fish disappeared. No trace whatsoever. Fast forward a few months later, I tried w/ 2 paired fire fish that were larger and all is good living in the same burrow. So unless the fish was sick (it was QT'd), I think the pistol did something. But there is nothing 100% certain in this hobby.
  17. Man, you don't mess around. It only took you 2 days to go from "thinking" to "buying". I need more than that for just clothes! Congrats! You will like the external overflow, so much better than internal, easier to maintain, more area inside, etc. good luck.
  18. Ask the vendor who the local delivery company is and inquire that way. If you ask Saltwater Aquarium they wouldn't know the intimate details of deliverying in an urban environment where apartments/condo buildings are prevalent. However, the local delivery people will and can provide you with more info. Worse case you have to pay extra to get it up the elevator and into your condo. Just make sure the tank can turn around corners, etc. I know some DC condos are built pretty tight in the back hallways. Als double check size (LxWxH) of the service elevator. Edit...Was just thinking that if they use Fedex then yeah, you likely would have to hire "movers" (LFS can do this) to do the last mile or friends/wamas members w/ appropriate equipment. Then you have to make sure your building will allow you to store the tank/stand temporarily until your last mile people get there.
  19. Hard for us to see but this is a case of whatever gives you piece of mind.
  20. Is it like bubbling? Is it at the side closest to water or the dry side? Do you have a picture of it? I know some manufacturers will say that some bubbling is normal.
  21. Wow! I don't think I fully grasped how small it is until now. Nice picture.
  22. I was gonna say that the best way is to put the tank in another location but that's not happening here. Somehow I think Isaac's 2 sentence paragraph is much harder than it seems...Plan for a long day, especially if you're doing it yourself. Try to do most of the plumbing (like gluing) before hand when you dry fit in another location. Then all you need to do is to attach them via unions. Basically, do as much as you can prior.
  23. That's great to hear! I've been there a few times, it's a good resource. We are lucky to have a good amount of LFS' in our area.
  24. You can buy from LFS that do do a full quarantine process like reefescape.
  25. My tank is technically in our dining room although we have kind of an open floor plan so it's not right up against the dining area. The only smells that come are when I stop the pumps for maintenance or feeding. If everything is up and running, no smell at all.....Well, sometimes the frozen food I feed smell like the ocean.
