  1. I buy mine from Reefescape because they have a fishless invert system. While that doesn't get rid of all risks, it does go a long way compared to other options.
  2. Instant reef! Great job. Moving is always stressful.
  3. Sucks you had to go down that route. I find it interesting that, even w/ all of the live rock and the biodiversity that comes with it, you still have issues w/ the cyano phase. Good luck!
  4. Tank looks great! Good luck w/ the upgrade. I assume the new tank is not in the same place as the current?
  5. Nice! Is Adam's shop still at the Balls Ford Road location?
  6. Looks great! The tank is awesome and what I had before I upgraded. You can see my progress in my signature. That light will be a monster for that little footprint. Good luck!
  7. Are you double checking the Trident's reading with another test kit? Just want to rule that out too.
  8. Good to hear! Remember that only part of structures is gravity load. If it was load bearing that picture would look a bit different.
  9. You almost don't need fish!
  10. Are those the studs that you cut for the opening (blue circle)? If so, perhaps frame it out w/ a header and back down to the floor (red)? Your wall will be much more stable..
  11. Keeping a tank is hard when you're not at home! Luckily, you're tank always looks good.
  12. Haha. Pretty funny. Just make sure your rocks are resting directly on the bottom of your tank and not on sand. Som people put rocks on egg crate, which then rests directly on the tank bottom. That works too. Either way, you don't want your rocks moving.
  13. Haha, no worries! You have twist it to get the best result. Patience is needed.
  14. I have this same kit and find it okay. I have a 6a. I believe (but don't know for sure) it's the exact same as the others available, just rebranded. I find it hard to get things to look right mostly because I don't have enough patience to sit there and play w/ the different ways you can stack the filters. What exactly did you use? Just the 1 orange not stacked? Did you adjust anything in the phone?
  15. Seems like the photos are blocked....
  16. Looks like Tom is taking good care you. If that fitting leaving the DI is shot and it's more than the fitting, you can easily get a replacement canister. Those just screw to the metal bar and easily replaced if necessary. You're almost there!
  17. I've finally tracked the blue line out of the ro membrane and it seems to go into the di but there is no outlet from the di... That means if the flush valve is turned the correct way water will be coming out of that broken quickly connect outlet. That may be why he's using the flush valve this way (wrongly). Easy fix if this is the case.
  18. Remind all us why we do this? Because we go into the hobby knowing stuff like this. Are we set up to fail? LOL!
  19. I didn't know this so thanks for the info. I always buy from ReefEscape, which has the only fishless invert system that I'm aware of (and also close to me) but nice to know there is an online option too.
  20. Maybe save a cup to jump start cycle but get new sand. Take away as much of the variables as possible. This is the risk of getting turnkey tanks as opposed to starting fresh.
  21. Great explanation, Tom. I've been to exhibitions/conventions at that Marriott and agree that with what you've said. But I also think that it's a great venue alternative to the convention center. I would think that for DC (and other first tier cities) is that we can have conventions like these in our satellite cities such as Tysons, National Harbor, etc. Are they just as expensive (now)?
  22. Looks great! Thanks for sticking w/ WAMAS and contributing from PA! I don't know Lebanon but seems like a decent change of scenery compared to this area. Good luck!
  23. I would choose depth over both height (especially) and width for reef tank. Choose width for fish or both if you can afford it and have the space. I'd also look for external overflows or ones you can mod to get external so you can run a bean animal and give maximum space inside the tank.
  24. Thanks for the update. Tank looks great and glad you got through your issues!
  25. I suggest you get a refractometer as the very first step. Rule out salinity. Then we can figure out next steps. Even if you start over, you should use a refractometer moving forward.
