  1. Tank is cycled, it terms of spikes and drops with ammonia nitrite/nitrate. You think the fish will just adjust? I like this theory, like we heard about 2 meetings back, most fish in the wild contain roughly 80 parasites that they comfortably live with in the wild. With the right environment and proper diet, they will be be healthy. I just need to make sure I provide the right environment. What size is your tank? I will add more rock in order to accommodate my fish list. I am also ready to scratch some of the fish off my list in order to provide the proper homes. At the end of the day, I want to do this right, as it means less problems for me, and healthier fish.
  2. Great shot! Tank is looking really good!
  3. Yeah, the lack of hiding spaces was a concern for me as well. Like I've mentioned, I plan on adding enough current live rock to fill up the right hand side as well. Thanks for the opinion and advice. I was worried about aggression due to the amount of "territory" that could be had. My tank is 6', bigger than the couch. 72x18x28
  4. Haha , Alan, I'm having a hard time deciphering this, and gauging your level of seriousness...
  5. So I've put my wishlist up all over WAMAS, but I'm working towards making it real. My question is two part Achilles Tang (Acanthurus achilles) Chevron Tang (Ctenochaetus hawaiiensis) Sailfin Tang, Desjardini (Zebrasoma desjardini) Blonde Naso Tang (Naso elegans) Hoeven's Wrasse (Halichoeres melanurus) Carpenter's Flasher Wrasse (Paracheilinus carpenteri) Scott's Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus scottorum) Red Striped Anthias (Pseudanthias fasciatus) Yellow Prawn Goby (Cryptocentrus cinctus) I want to add the Achilles, Chevron, Sailfin, and naso all at the same time, and I'm working on getting all small to medium. On top of all this, I want to add the hoeven's, fairy, red stripe, and goby all at the same time as well, however, I'm concerned with my bioload after my 90 days. Certainly adding 9 fish all at once will be way to much, and I think I read it was good practice to add 1 fish a month? It was also suggested that I add all my tangs at once to prevent possible aggression, which I realize is still a possibility, no matter how I add them. So what is the best way to add my stocklist? One at a time? In groups like tangs vs. everything else? On top of that, I want to make sure all fish are quarantined properly before adding. I don't have the space at my place, and need to figure out the best way to do it, or figure out how much it's going to cost me to have somebody do it. If I set up a hypothetical 100 gallon tank for qt, could I use it temporary for 9 fish? 8 weeks is the suggested time for qt? Just saltwater, tank, and fish. Do I lower the salinity? Do I treat with copper and prazi, even if not needed? I would like to hear input on the best way to do this, and the most practical way to do this. This answer may include that the above ideas are ludicrous, and if that's the case, I want to hear that as well.
  6. Just one?! Choose wisely! I like Duncan's, do you have a coral list in mind? Or whatever tickles your fancy?
  7. Thanks man, That sounds awesome, I'll start the sump off right! Text me when works.
  8. I used deer park distilled in my 14 gallons for topping off with no ill effects for about 4 months. You should be alright in this pinch.
  9. You want to slowly bring your salinity down. Use RO water and add a little bit over a couple hours until you reach 1.025
  10. That's not a bad idea! Although a little bit more work then I'd like to put into it :P I'd rather cycle it for 90 days, and start filling it up. What's killer is that I won't be able to cycle it and then just dump everything in there, then I'll have to slowly wait. Unless: I keep feeding during this 90 day period, and periodically add more and more, until the tank is able to handle the abundantly large bio load because I've built it to do so...?
  11. Yeah, we could do a whole segment on "you know you've got a problem when... You didn't include the sump in there either Thanks, next step is the pulley system for the hood, probably next weekends project. As for the rock, I believe there will be enough in the sump, and the pieces I'm adding are equal to, if not more, than the arch on the left, which btw, is gigantic.
  12. Great info, thanks! I was only feeding about half a sheet every two days, and whatever my tang didn't get, the turbos finished off quickly. I like to feed, so I'll probably offer as much as what can get eaten once I get fully stocked.
  13. We use coffee tables and end tables to hold all our junk. It would be another spot to accumulate things. I'd rather use it as an experimental mangrove growing station...
  14. You should see the pieces I have waiting to go in! But in all seriousness, that's it. The pieces that are going in from the 57 will be a huge rock that my red monticap is attached to. and then the 2 rocks on the bottom that it rests into, which currently have one of my RBTA's, as well as my GLTA. That alone will fill up most of the right side of the tank. The rest of of the rock will go into the sump. Conceptually, I have a pretty solid idea of how it's going to work out. One thing I've learned is never say never, unless it's going fallow and you have a bet with Jenn. I'm not going to rule out the more rock, but in my head, this is how it's going to work. I will start trying to put up more videos as I accomplish things. I'm more of a picture guy, but once I get fish, videos will be the only way! Very happy with the lights, they have been serving me well. I have thought about making something to cover the sump up. I really like it open and out, as it makes it really nice to work on. At one stage I was planning on growing Mangroves out the middle. I certainly haven't ruled out covering it up. I've mentioned that we don't plan on staying here long, so nothing is set in stone. It wouldn't be that hard to create a hinged "L" to just go over I guess. Very happy with the lights, they have been serving me well. I have thought about making something to cover the sump up. 15. Skimmer isn't really pulling out much, started a little dirty, mostly all clear now, will see how it goes once I start ghost feeding more than once. Hooked up my other it2080 just to see how it would look with the other one. It's going to be nice, blues are at 50%, whites at 100%. I currently run a 50% to %70 ratio on the 57, but this tank is a little deeper, so I think the 50/100 will be just fine. Just need to figure out what we're going to do with the space behind the top along the wall. Probably just leave it. The home depot bucket is my temporary ATO bucket, it'll be moved. The wires in the sump will all be worked out once I hook up the apex. And a quick video of it all, if y'all aren't sick of these yet:
  16. I prefer toasted, I would hope my tangs will also!
  17. Thanks for all the help! Rob, do you know of any greens that are not beneficial? For example, When I kept turtles, feeding iceberg lettuce was of almost no nutritional value. Maybe that was a unbunked myth, but does anything like that apply to tangs, that you know of?
  18. All the tangs I have had love Julian Springs nori (green kind.) I'm finally done with the pack, my baby hippo has been enjoying it, as well as most of the other algae growing around the tank. It even ate at the caulerpa that I couldn't find a tang to look at. I'm all out of my Julian Springs nori now, and I've heard that quite a few folk pick up nori from their local chinese super markets? Just wanted to check on this... as I'm sure it's priced a little better. OK, a LOT better. I've also recently seen some threads with folks that soak their nori in fish oil before they feed? Somebody enlighten me?
  19. Still waiting on an UTD FTS, post one on here, not just on TOTM! A big congrats, again! Thanks to the advice from you and Pez, my Aussie E. is eating, and seriously growing fast! Now I can't keep food away from it, and when my hands are in the tank, it even tries to grab a hold of my fingers!
  20. Just wanted to go ahead and give a special thank you to Richard for giving our club the opportunity to sit at our computers for most of an aternoon and grab some great corals at some great prices. I know that it's hard work bringing in some of the sickest LPS in the area, and want to give a thank you for taking the time to provide the live buy to our club. And for stocking most of my tank
