  1. Great, thanks so much! I'll throw a pellet pinch in right now, as I'm sitting on the couch listening to the quiet gurgles of my sump. Ah. I'm working so hard on this one. SO hard.
  2. Great, thanks for catching this. I will start ghost feeding. How much is enough? I remember reading it was a rule of thumb to feed for 3 fish? But I can't remember what size tank that was for. Also, as per Vargas suggested methods (I finally took the book off my shelf instead of just asking what to do) I should do a 50% water change, but I suppose I should wait for my nitrates to drop to 0 first? Then water change, then ghost feeding for the rest of the time period?
  3. Collettk, how are the rest of your fish doing now that the PB is not an issue? Particularly the Fairy Wrasse? Any update on the tank parameters? I don't have much experience with fish, but I still stand by my thoughts in post #43. I also think that the Dr. Tims will be a saving grace in this case, and really hope it works! Let us know how it's going!
  4. We will see. Vendor, pricing, and QT time is all playing a big part into who I decide to go with. There is the option of going with Live Aquaria and setting up a temporary 100 gallon, but then I suppose I assume 100% risk. We have so many awesome vendors in this area, I'm sure I can find exactly what I'm looking for! I like them a lot. I guess I will see what's avaliable. I'm thinking maybe I'll add the tangs along with my other fish, and then the rest of the list? Haha, my buddy came over and essentially set my camera for me, I don't even know what it's on. I want to get it just right, and be done with the "It's so blueeeeeeee" or "your coraline is so neooooooooon."
  5. Hahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahaha. But seriously.... Before or after the breakup. There is also the possibility of a chocolate tang instead of the achilles, which might save me some money and headaches down the line.
  6. I also forgot to mention, I hope those pictures look a little better? I've been shooting RAW and adjusted the blues in my light to a more decent spectrum. The tank definitly looks more natural, and closer to the colors I was getting metal halides. I was essentially running the blues the same % as the other channel. The iPhone will still produce the blues, but my nikon should yield a better picture from now on, I mean, who do ya'll think I am, Gadgets? Sorry for the brevity last post, this caught me off gaurd, and got me thinking. So I had a lot of die off from my 29 after it had finished cycling, and most of the rock was used in there. I never rinsed it, and I presume there was a lot of die off on it. Also, a lot of my live rock that I put in had a lot of mini starfish as well that I don't think pulled through when I added it as soon as I had my sump hooked up. The sand was "live pink fiji" which I presume means it had the bacteria to start the cycle with as well. Like I mentioned in my above post, I saw the chemistry of a cycle, and I'm nearly finished with a 5.0 ppm nitrates. Do you think it was very quick (1.5-2 weeks) because I didn't ghost feed? I presumed there should have been enough dead in there already. But I got to thinking tonight, if I were to start ghost feeding, would my nitrates rise, or would I start another cycle? Halloween is an early date my friend. I believe November 1st will be my real deal. Even then, I don't want to add 10 fish all at once and be done with it. Have you seen my fish list? I'll need until then to save for it, but I'm fairly sure I've got a good line up. I currently have: 2 regular clown percs 1 target mandarin 4 green chromis 1 Hippo Tang 1 Foxface 1 Yellow Tang And the additions I would like to add are: Achilles Tang (Acanthurus achilles) Chevron Tang (Ctenochaetus hawaiiensis) Sailfin Tang, Desjardini (Zebrasoma desjardini) Blonde Naso Tang (Naso elegans) Hoeven's Wrasse (Halichoeres melanurus) Carpenter's Flasher Wrasse (Paracheilinus carpenteri) Scott's Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus scottorum) Red Striped Anthias (Pseudanthias fasciatus) Yellow Prawn Goby (Cryptocentrus cinctus) It's been recomended I add all the tangs at once. However, I'm working with several vendors to see if they can be quarantined and held. With something like the Achilles (which is really one of my favorites) it's a bit of a risk, as it is not only an "expert" rated fish, but I believe it is considered one as it's hard to get eating right away, and there is always the chance of bullying. It would be a shame to spend so much money on a fish, and not have it pull through. I would like to add them individually as i can afford them and QT them, so still trying to figure out what the best way to do it is. On top of that, making sure the system fully cycles, and is set up properly, I'd like to have my Apex configured and running, with updates to my phone. Then to top it all off, I want my ATO setup perfectly, my wires neatly organized, a fuge light for my sump rather than that little clip on that I have at the moment, and a canopy that can be pivoted up to the ceiling with the twist of a knob. Now that I say that all outloud, it sounds like I have plenty to work on till Nov. 1st A little picture tonight of my nems enjoying themselves before lights out:
  7. Also, cycle seems to have finished, ammonia spike, nitrite spike, ammonia drop, nitrite spike, nitrate drop. Also nitrite drop.
  8. The rock I used had die off from my 29bc heater meltdown, otherwise, no... Should I?
  9. Picture is coming down. Not sure what to do behind the space.
  10. Thanks! It's exciting to see everything growing, even on the racks. A lot of my zoas are taking off, and getting a lot of new branches/growth on my SPS. I've heard having LPS and SPS successfully in one system isn't possible, so maybe my SPS grows a little slower, but I'm alright with that. Still haven't figured out the answer. Yeah yeah, it's that easy....
  11. This had me laughing pretty hard. That being said, I am usually moving things around all the time with my hands. They make long tongs, and grabbers, or elbow deep gloves. I have tongs, they stay pretty dry.
  12. Wow, just wow. Lighting is going to be killer. I know what you mean about the adjustable hangers, however I'm going to settle for function over form. Knowing the display will be moved in a year or two keeps me on my toes. You're so close!
  13. 57 tonight, you can see all the rock that was moved out, may move a little more rock over, put in a frag rack on the right hand side. As a point of reference, this Golden Torch is two headed and stretches about 8" W and D Snapped these two quickly tonight before lights out. My toadstool is molting for the 3rd time since I've had it (probably about 1" high) and it's always come back brighter and bushier, can't wait: Picked up another cleaner shrimp a few weeks ago from Quantum, they are characters. I can't even get my hands in the tank without them rushing over and climbing all over them. It's cool to watch them clean the fish when they come through, it always reminds me of a pit stop:
  14. Slacker of the year over here, I am going to need some help most likely, just need to get the lady out so I can make time to play.
  15. haha. My Apex is the most expensive under the stand decoration I have at the moment. I got it hooked up to read tempearature. It's one of those things on my list to tackle before I start filling up. I've got it mounted, I think I'm going to hardwire it to my router. When I set it up by the 57 I just threaded my own cat5, will have to run about 20' now vs. the 6' it used to be. I'd much rather have it hooked up and practice with a cycling tank than the DT, which was the only thing that made me wary, like coming home to a skimmer going haywire, or my pumps off and water everywhere. Yeah, I'm debating which. maybe I should get 4 more, and just do both.
  16. I believe right about the time you can get a new phone is when I'll be filling up my tank
  17. No way! That's obviously a typo. My 3 months is going to be November 1st. I'll have to get a live cam up so you can see how good I'm being. And you can watch all the sand, and rock, and more sand. I might flip the lights on a couple hours a day for ya' Funny about that Sep. 1st date though, did a water test today, PH: 8.0 Ammonia: 0 ppm Nitrite: 0 ppm Nitrate: 5.0 ppm Looks like the cycle is just about over! I've got some hangers coming in the mail today, plan on putting the hood on a pulley system so I can raise and lower it as I need to work on the tank. Either that, or I'll see about putting the lights on a bar which will raise and lower as needed. Or both... maybe. Skimmer is in the sump, it's been all of but half an hour, so will see if there is any skimmate for it to pull out. I have the skimmate locker for it somewhere in all my toys, I think I'll have to get a breakout box, and I'll figure out how to connect it to the Apex. Oye, what a headache, but it'll be so nice to have one everything is up and running.
  18. This is why I asked, I read over all your posts, and it sounds like your tank may not have even finished cycling before you started adding fish. My advice, and take it with a grain of salt, is that you should qt all your fish. Find a tank big enough to do so, or separate tanks, enough space to keep them comfortable. See if you can get a sponge from some local members to help cycle your qt tank, or do you have any Dr. Tims left? QT your entire tank separate for as long as possible (8 weeks if you can) and let your DT settle, then if the fish are alright, put them back in. It is possible that they could survive through your DT cycling, however, you are poisoning them with the ammonia, and they are already stressed and have ich. Just my 2 cents.
  19. Sorry to hear about the fish How long has your tank been up and running? I just read this above.
  20. This is a stellar idea. I bought what was left of those and planned on using them for my hood, so the lights would hang in place, but the hood would come up. And +1 to Kim. Your diligence and zealousness has, and will continue to pay off!
