He's alive and doing what clams do. I guess I don't know how to determine his mood. I did try to move him the other day and he had his foot planted pretty solidly. I just left him because I didn't want to hurt him.

Just wanted to show a pic of what I assume is a massive trail of snail eggs: I just thought it looked cool! The entire structure was about 3 inches wide. There was no sign by the next morning, so I don't know if something ate the eggs, or if they detach and settle somewhere else.

Just a guess on my part, I've never actually seen baby turbos. I've never seen them so white, but maybe they darken up as they age?

The shape looks like turbo snail, do you have any adult turbos?

Remember how often Todd mentioned his different sieves? I think a net will be out of the question, maybe something more like a coffee filter or a T-shirt (just guessing). For a water change, I envision maybe siphoning water into a bucket with a funnel and coffee filter sitting on top. Then dump the pods back into the culture tank or into the DT as food.

I have like 50 million sq.ft. of the bird netting left over. I could give you some if you want. I'm probably not far from you. I really don't see why you would need to order the clear stuff from BRS, as the black version I have doesn't appear to block any significant amount of light. Here's some pics I just snapped. Probably could see better if it wasn't after "lights out". I used some eggcrate on the rear to avoid having to make an irregular shaped screen top, which I'm fine with, because I have swimming space behind my rocks, so no corals at the rearmost portion of my tank.

I would probably do the WC just to be safe, due to the quantity of "crud". I'd be scared of an ammonia spike. In the future, if you continue to blast the rocks weekly it obviously won't be as much junk in the water column.

+1 to this. I have compared the color charts side by side. The ammonia is "shifted" by one shade. Yellow is zero on the freshwater, but the lightest green is zero on the saltwater test. Nitrite and Nitrate color charts are identical.

My margaritas are helpless as well. They do a good job cleaning, but I probably won't buy more when I refresh my CUC. Currently they are just supplying shells for some of my larger hermits (which I also vow to no longer buy).

I figured, hey, it's like 25 bucks in lumber, and it's almost 7' tall with the Brute on top, so I wanted to make sure it didn't wobble. It doesn't wobble.

I pump my water to the tank with a Mag 7 pump, (which also mixes my salt water), but you could have the bottom tank on rollers and use flex pipe instead of rigid pvc. I used only 2x4's and a piece of 1/2" plywood and there is no wobble with both brutes full. I can post up my google sketch-up file if you want a visual of how the stand is built.

I just wanted to show off the anemone I got from Jan. The first night he moved probably 3 feet from where I placed him, then he hid in the shadows for a few days, and now he's settling in nicely.

Picked this up today and am not sure what it is. The cell phone pics don't show the color well, but it's a mix of purple and green. It is soft, it really reminds me of a wad of bubble gum, in feel and look. My best guess is some sort of leather coral... Any ideas?

+1 I bought some red leg hermits and all they do is kill each other and my snails. Every day I see hermit legs floating around in the flow. I probably lean more towards overfeeding too, so I know they get some leftover food. I recommend buying the tiniest blue legs that you can find. Their shells should be about a centimeter long.

The issue when people talk about puppy mills isn't about how the animals are treated at the final retail store, it's about how the puppies and mothers are treated at the "mill". A responsible breeder selectively breeds to bring out the best traits of the breed and is usually concerned about the well being of the mother and her litter. Puppy mills will breed any dog in heat (sometimes repeatedly until the mother drops dead), remove the litter from the mother before they are properly weaned, and due to the scale of the operation, often house the animals in substandard conditions. Obviously I don't know this first hand, but I am just recalling things that have been reported in documentaries and the like. I think it's perfectly appropriate that people are aware of allegations that are floating around out there so they can do their own research and decide where they want to spend their money.
