    my 20 gal

did you upgrade the light to a a360?
  2. also consider the avast ato.
  3. your size tank i would look into the mp40.
  4. interesting, you seem to only need deep sandbed and a calcium reactor to keep them. here is something on clam biofilter.http://www.aquasearch.net.au/aqua/clambiofilter.htm
  5. i would put it in the sump reguardless. they just released a new version that can be used on glass up to 1/2 inch. might be worth putting together a group buy since they give discounts based on the amount of units ordered.http://www.santa-monica.cc/Hang-On-Glass-HOG-Upflow-Algae-Scrubber-UAS-with-Green-Grabber-surface--1-Cube-feeding-per-day--MAGNET-VERSION_p_36.html
  6. what kind of phosphate test are you using? just odd that you have nitrate but nothing on phosphate. it looks like your tank may still be cycling? it should go away on its own, but you can always employ a phosphate, nitrate absorbing device. i purchased the upflow algae scrubber from santa monica to do this for my tank.
  7. what about those frag trees things that looked like a christmas tree? saw it at quantum reef and thought it looked pretty neat.
  8. because zoas typically require low light and low flow which is why most people place them near the sand bed.
  9. hows the flow?
  10. try pointing the powerhead pointing at the opposite powerhead. this should create some random flow as well.
  11. hmmm, wonder if you could prevent the die off by dosing a small amount of vodka to the tank.
  12. dont think any tangs will fit in that size tank. maybe a blennie.
  13. i see biopellets as something similar to harvesting chaeto, except you are using bacteria. biopellets in the reactor will feed bacteria in the reactor. the bacteria will hold on for dear life to the biopellets while also eating phosphate and nitrates as well. once it gets too big to hold on it will get pumped out of the reactor. once it is out of the reactor ideally you want to have the skimmer take it out of your system. adding a uv to the outlet of your biopellet reactor should not defeat the purpose of the biopellet. i read that bacteria do absorb nitrates and phostates, one should still run a phosphate absorbing device to prevent algae and cyano bacteria growth in the display which is why i purchased algae scrubbers for my tank.
  14. when i was trying to reduce my gravel, i took out a little bit during the weekly water change. dont think its a good idea to take it all out at once. try changing your water and adding some food and take another test the following day.
  15. 6-8 should be a good number. they will initially establish a pecking order, but if you have enough of them in the tank so as to not allow for the dominant one to exclusively pick on the weakest one, it should be ok. do you have plenty of hiding spots in the tank for your fish?
  16. if adding fish is what you really want to do, i would add a bunch of schoaling fish like cardinals or chromis.
  17. you can also try a mirror to distract the other fishes.

    hows that mower working?
  21. do you need to log in to input data?
  22. ocean nutrition prime flake food is what i started out with before going towards frozen food. i had clowns, cleaner shrimp, chromis and wrasse. all of them ate it.
  23. i had a bunch of blue legged crabs kill snails for their shells. they also fought among themselves for shells. my next build will be crabless.
