  1. Whatever is happening there in that tank is cool I'm sure, but I found this write up amusing for a morning laugh. (Paris hIltons dog,,,etc) THANKS!
  2. Does anyone have a dirty greasy auto mechanics shirt I can borrow????
  3. adding an external to where there was none before would scare the crap out of me! Just seems like too much risk there. just my opinion.
  4. I would toss it all in the new tank and call it a day. Its just sand and old tank water? I can't see why there would be any problems with that transfer.
  5. He became part of the life cycle in the FO tank aka Trigger snack.
  6. I just yanked this guy out of the frag tank. What is it? Pictures are from a cell so not the best and I'm sure user error played a role
  7. I put a regular one in my moms 72 FO tank about 6 months ago. It has eaten frozen brine and even flake food since day 1. It's constantly swimming around with her blue hippo and cleaning it. Pretty cool to watch. When we first put him in the tank, the hippo basically stopped and let the cleaner wrasse go to town cleaning it. That Hawaiian Cleaner wrasse looks awesome!!!
  8. I've been there a few times. Same place as the old Exotic Aquatics (mostly) that was in Parkville/Towson just WAAAAY smaller it seems. If you go, they're tucked behind some other buildings, not the easiest to find at all. I have not been there since they changed to all salt, but there was mostly basic stuff there. Corals were VERY limited. A couple of "discount" fish like a Yellow tang that had a "bad" eye. :( I'm sure they will get the place together and get some good stuff in the shop. Exotic always had decent stuff. If you're making the trip up, I'd give it a little time unless things have changed dramatically in the past 3 weeks. This is NOT a negative review just honest. ALL tanks were clean and 99% of the fish looked great. We did buy a wrasse and he/she is doing great and very healthy. I will go back and I will buy from them again.
  9. Hopefully someone here has had tanks in condos or even apartments. What is the biggest tank I could safely have given the weight in one spot?
  10. Interesting read: http://www.nmfs.noaa.gov/stories/2012/11/82corals.html http://www.nmfs.noaa.gov/stories/2012/11/docs/signed_coral_proposed_rule.pdf
  11. I'm pretty sure those are the same ones we just did a group buy on except in the link above they "renamed" them. Check out the Group Buy threads or check on Reef Central under Chinese LEDS and there is a ton more info about them and different ideas on hanging etc. Do yours have optic lenses installed on them? If not I would seriously look into getting optics for them.
  12. Did you buy any of these models? http://www.championlighting.com/home.php?cat=1592 or something different?
  13. Sooooo.....I had the pleasure of meeting Adam today. What a great guy and a pleasure to chat with. I hope this forum is a place where we can be openly honest, if not someone is going to have to edit or delete this post and hit me with one of those new "warning" or "time out" functions you mods have I know that I'm NOT the only one that thought when someone "took over" Mr. Coral and Sunny was gone that this was just another lie or scam for "Mr. Coral" to try to get rid of the BAD, Horrible, Chop Shop reputation that it has across the country. Yep, local retail shop with a bad reputation across the county.....that is when you know you're doing something WRONG! After going to the new "Mr. Coral Retail" shop today and speaking with the new shop owner Adam, I realized that it is not a way for the EX owner to clean up his name and reputation, but a great guy (ADAM) with a ton of experience in the hobby trying to make a name for himself and support his family while enjoying the hobby. The shop still has that old "Mr. Coral" look which I understand is in the process of changing (and you can see it too). The days of getting a shipment of fish in Friday and having an insane 50% off or BOGO sale on Saturday morning are over. (How many of your fish lived from those sales where there was a line out the door and people were taking numbers to get fish that rarely survived a few days). Adam's fish all looked very healthy and all were eating. He is putting all fish through a QT process and taking every step to insure that he is not only bringing in quality fish and corals but insuring that they will survive when you get them in your tank at home. The corals were all bright and colorful and some were priced way below what they should be. The invert section was thriving as well. I did not see one dead or sick looking fish, no corals that looked like they were in any stages of dying, and no foul smelling tanks (if you visited the OLD shop with the previous owner you know what I mean). There is still a ton of work to do as he knows and many tanks and systems that will be set up, but what he does have looks wonderful. I look forward to seeing how it all turns out in the end and I wish Adam nothing but luck and great success! I hope Adam loses the name Mr. Coral soon so people are not turned off (as many still are) based on a name and actions of previous owners/operators so he can build his own business/reputation instead of starting "in the hole". If you get the time, take the trip out and see what he has going on and support a guy who truly loves the hobby and not just the $$$$ that comes with the shop. Sorry for the ramble but I KNOW I'm not the only one that did not believe the "new owner" deal. I was wrong. I look forward to buying many things from ADAM and his shop.
  14. The tanks plastic bottom frame does keep the glass lifted by at least a 1/4". The tank is a new Aqueon tank not a custom made tank. The piece of plywood that its sitting on now is a good inch longer on all sides too. The tank is only 40g so its not a big tank at all, but I'm just paranoid (maybe for no reason).
  15. I have a steel stand and the top is 1/4 to 1/2 inch (closer to 1/4" mark) short on all sides compared to the bottom of the glass tank frame. Is it safe to just put a piece of 3/4" plywood on top and call it a day or no?
  16. Here is what I'm using. Hope the pic is big enough to see
  17. I'll take a picture of my ghetto system if I can later
  18. I'm actually using the shower in my spare bathroom to make my water. I have one of those handheld shower wands in there. I disconnected the shower wand, added a PVC 1/2" FTF adapter from the depot and an JG fitting from the depot as well to go into the RODI. Pressure is fine and has worked perfect so far.
  19. I would love to hear everyone's opinion on this topic. Which method do you use? Why did you choose the method you're using? Have you tried the other method?
  20. I personally would need a translator for this conversation!
  21. Nice build! Looks great so far. Love the dimensions of that tank
  22. Funny this thread came back up today after I called Harvey's this morning to see what they had in stock. They have a 94% Calcium flake (forgot to ask the name) for $16.08/50lb bag and they have Dead Sea Mag Flake for $17.69/50lb bag. ohh...he said plus tax and a "fuel surcharge" of............drum roll please...............13 cents!!! Guess I'll head over there Monday to grab some instead of ordering from BRS as I had planned.
  23. That tank looks awesome! Nice work Adam! Can't wait to see this one up and running
