  1. It has done much better than I have deserved it to. Other than cleaning the skimmer and refilling reactor media, I would do a water change every month or so and that was about it. Working on a project or two and hoping to make it look much better! Unfortunately, the Achilles didn't make it very long and died a couple days after the guarantee ran out. Oh well, that's how it goes....
  2. Welcome, if you are in the Woodbridge area come on over and I'll hook you up with a couple frags to get you started!
  3. My favorite item isn't livestock, it's an ozone generator. There are many arguments as to whether or not they have a difference in a reef system. What I can tell you is that I seem to produce more and thicker skimmate, my polyp extension is better, my water is clearer, and my livestock seems to be a bit happier. At one point, I was considering breaking down my 375+ gallon reef and sold my current ozone generator to another WAMAS member. He had it for about 2 months and during that time I experienced a severe degradation in water quality, coral growth, and general reef health on all accounts. I was able to acquire my ozone generator from this WAMAS member after a short while and I'm glad I did. After this period, I decided to re-invest myself emotionally and physically in my reef and was able to re-acquire my ozone generator. From the point that I reactivated the generator in my system, I experienced a distinct change in water quality. The first indication was having to clean my skimmer 4 times within 3 days. There was no change to any other parameter in my system but the addition of the generator immediately began to pull more DOM from my tanks. They are a bit expensive and even if they have the placebo effect, I will never run another system without the additional benefits of ozone. That's my two cents....
  4. So here is the situation. New baby, work change, back to school, and neglect of the tank. It was probably 3-5 months before I cleaned the coralline algae off of the front pane of glass. What I can say is that all of the colonies have done really well with little to no direction from myself. I'm planning on posting some pics tonight. To see what I'm saying, look through previous pics of my corals and clams. Most of them I still have, and the results are stunning!
  5. Tank is still up and running although a little neglected at the moment. I'd like to welcome my new daughter Charlotte, or Charlie as I call her, to the club!
  6. right off of dale blvd near Kerrydale elementary
  7. I need to lift my canopy up on my tank and would prefer not to ask my pregnant wife to help me. Any takers? Give me a call at 703.725.7363 if you can help. Much appreciated and thanks in advance.
  8. I wish I did! But then I wouldn't get anything done!
  9. Just got my Achilles Tang (and various other fish) in the mail! Hoo-Ray!
  10. Thanks for the compliments! I'm going to let the micro colonies grow out a bit more on the sand bed and then slowly move them to the rocks. Sooner or later the entire front portion will be full of clams (5-7 or so). Everything is turning out well, now I just need them to grow!!!
  11. I'm going to let the frags grow out a bit more before i find them a more permanent home. As far as the sand bed, i actually used crushed coral for my substrate thinking that it might balance out my ph swings a bit more but doesn't allow for a sand sifting goby to work the sand. Hope it doesn't come back to bite me in the rear.
  12. Here are some pics! Clams and corals are growing out quite nicely. Still having a bit of a problem with red slime but going to start some GFO to see if that will take care of it. Thanks for looking!
  13. I've purchased a couple of nice frags, coral colonies, and a couple of more fish and the tank is starting to really take off. Coralline algae is starting to grow in various parts and copepods and amphipods are everywhere! Pics will be posted soon!
  14. And bust heads we did! Semper Fi man and welcome to the club! Like the Marines, this club is pretty moto and intense!
  15. Used to live in J-actionville myself a couple years ago. Were you in the Corps? And welcome to the club!
