  1. Dave W I would love to get into something like that, if you need a hand. Let me know lol!
  2. I'm glad you guys had such great service, I had a small part issue that was originally my fault. After three months and six times of being told "its in the mail" later a distributor and Quantum Reefs stepped in, and helped me get it working...now as of tonight one of the two DC5000 pumps on my skimmer just bit the dust...so to anyone considering these pumps try and be sure your pump is not from the faulty batch. Or get another model...
  3. Thanks Dave, I'm shocked that as of right now 16 have opened. Not that they will all survive. But I know these guys are going to eat the entire tanks supply of food fast. I'm hoping reef roids will keep them alive for a while. If not, boom anemone food! I'd rather share them though. After a week in my care I might just put many up for free. The whole lot was $9, which is great considering the price of any livestock in this hobby lmao... Bending, they really do look that way! Lol
  4. Also, does anyone have info on fusilier damsels? I just picked up four from Quantum Reefs. They seem to change color as they swim under my acan 600PA's, with their many colors it looks amazing as these fish school.
  5. Thanks Origami, I've had a coupe "events" with the system since I've posteD anything. But I've been checking in periodically. :-)
  6. I've wondered for a while if grocery store bought clams could eat my left over coral foods, and help keep the tank water clean. After seeing some "live" littleneck clams at Giant, I did some quick research on bringing these guys into an aquarium. After reading some topics of reef central, I went for it. Now I have 24(one was crushed) little neck clams in two gallons of pre-mixed salt water. I chilled this water to 52 degrees, with crushed ice in zip lock bags. Soon I will drip acclimate them, and place them in a Tupperware container of rinsed sand. Hopefully I've gone the right way with this little project. My worry is this tank will not support 24(assuming none die) little hungry clams. Does anyone have ideas on this topic? If I have more than my system can keep alive, would anyone want a couple?
  7. I saw that. But the history worries me. I'm sure they have improved some. But it would take some convincing before I bought from there. After seeing several topics with these issues. Granted, all pretty old. I would rather pay $300 more, get two overflows, and hopefully better chances at success.
  8. WOW, just did a quick Google search for info on how GC ships to customers in manassas....then I find this thread! I'm definitely not buying from these guys!
  9. I'd be willing to trade a couple of my lavender anemone clones for an RBTA, but would like to see any new anemone enthusiasts get priority
  10. I'm so jealous! Looks great. I'm glad you haven't left the hobby guys!
  11. New skimmer, algae refugium, and a whole new feeding attitude. Less is more! Lets see how low my phosohates go!

  12. Oh, and as for the anemone feeding. I did take your advice, it does seem to spit much less solid food out now. As well as swell up even more! Thanks for the advice, it's always good to have some helpful thoughts!
  13. zygote, its been a while but this is the first time I've checked this thread since you posted! That is a great idea, I will look into that! An update, I started doing massive 80gal water changes to cope with insane phosphates. I tested/watched for a couple months, and its not getting much better. So I have devised a four phase assault! 1: feeding has been drastically dropped down, two scoops of elos fish food a day. Three times a week some jans fish food(carni or vegi, since I sold most of my corals I dont need the excess food for them). 2: Ordered a new skimmer, my current one is rated up to 200gal(AVAST CS1) and the system is 194gal. Going with a RLSS R8-E which is rated up to 600gal! That should clean things up nicely. 3: new skimmer will be external leaving space in the sump for a 10 gallon algae refugium(eggcrate with plasic mesh keeping smaller stuff in). 4: filter socks, this is impractical now due to the crazy plumbing. So it will have to wait for my new steel stand, whenever that gets done! This will take a while! But if it succeeds and my phosphates go bellow .5ppm(running 1.5ppm now) I will be incredibly happy!
  14. Don't be, it happens. When your free to put more time into it we know it will be amazing! I can't wait until the coraline algae covers all that foam. Maybe even someday it could be covered in living coral!
  15. I have had other sellers offer similar. Which is why I started this thread, to see what the interest was. At the moment it seems that the high end of what people would pay is $250-300. Which means there is no way I can afford to buy one at the moment. We will see how my tax returns look lol...then I will consider it. But even then the ROI on each is incredibly low. Which would force me to split them for months until selling would be an option.
  16. Zygote, that is a worry. From what I remember in past research there was a consensus that died anemones were a consistent color from the tentacles down top the foot. With no stretch marks or natural color variations. Origami, that is exactly what I am concerned with. If there is a large cost $300+, I would have a hard time selling for less than half what I paid. Then compound the fact it may be hard to sell, and you have one beautifly simple headache. I will PM him, thanks for the advice. Monkiboy, that is great to know. It's good to see there is possible interest. My biggest concern (assuming I find a real lemon drop and not a fake) is working out a fair price. WAMAS, members (myself included) are used to very low prices. It's a large part of why many of us join. By working with each other, we often pay similar pricing to wholesale or less.
  17. I Currently I am doing research into more rare anemones, such as Lemon Drop BTA's for propagation. I have seen multiple places claiming LDBTA's. For prices ranging from $275-700. I have a few questions regarding these 'nems. 1. Does anyone here have one, or experience with splitting/caring for them. 2. If I got one or more, and split them to sell here. What would you guys feel to be a FAIR price?(This will of course be dictated by what I pay up front to buy them.) 3. Would you be interested in purchasing one down the road. 4. Is there any other type of anemone that you think I should check into for propagation, I already have several RBTA's. With plans to get more! I am looking forward to seeing the feedback from WAMAS on this, as well as get a feel for interest in these anemones. Any feedback will be helpful! Bellow are some photo's of LDBTA's On the left is an orange rainbow, right is lemon drop.
  18. You know where I live, if you need Carbon just give me a call. Unfortunately I don't have a spare reactor...I am so sorry to hear you have had this happen! I wish you the best of luck in recovering your tank, let me know if I can help!
  19. Yup, I actually just found this topic right after trying to use my new hanna checker and was frustrated enough to try and find some tips. I will try the rubbing alcohol and 1-2" bellow waterline ideas.
  20. I spent 45 minutes learning to frag zooanthids and some paly's when I first got into the hobby. I noticed a "glitchy" muscle response to commands. For example I would try to move my arm two inches to the right, it might jump three. It might only move one. Just a general disconnect in my movement in that localized area. Which I found pretty irritating since I was using a scalpel! That is when i called it quits. The contact area was around my hand, but my whole lower arm felt funny. It then began slight shaking, and went away within 15-20 minutes. That is the worst incident I have had yet, though when i move my paly rock if there is any contact past 2-3 seconds I really begin to feel my hand start to feel odd. Then go through the issues listed above, all over again. I do feel similar when splitting anemones, though I have become used to it since the sensation is much lighter. The anemone's seem to not be as potent. I can only guess the "spear" delivery method does not reach all the way through the skin, but the zoa/paly slime absorbs quickly. If I split more than three anemone's I wear gloves! I have never noticed any stings from coral with the exception of the events listed above. From time to time I feel a strong pain under my nail, I believe it is due to stray bristle worm spines when i move things. Since i never see them, I cant say for sure. It usually goes away in about 20-30minutes. I have been cut many times, usually just tube worms. I rinse them in fresh water and no issues from there on. On a side note, I do not know if this helps any. I met a guy when I worked at petco who actually liked the sensation of holding his anemone. He was an odd one...but it seemed like he really did enjoy it.
  21. Wow, that tank is impressive! You mentioned no mechanical filtration. Do you plan on a skimmer? How about chemical filtration? I have the Next Reef MR1 monster, its amazing! Especially since it fits standard GFO, and I don't need to buy the special more dense stuff. That saves A LOT OF MONEY!
  22. Oh, and you said shrimp? What about large cleaners?
  23. That is interesting, I had found one peice that was spit out. Usually that does not happen. That time I had upped the normal meal from 1 shrimp to 1.5, though that is an interesting idea that large meals would be like celery to us. Requiring more calories than they provide. The idea of no snails does bug me. I've had some breeding for quite a while. So all the babies would just be eaten. It is something I could get over, if I know for a fact the fish will eat bristle worms. Will it only eat small ones?
  24. Unfortunately both if those show tendancies towards eating shrimp. I would preffer to keep my tank full of peaceful fish. Or as much as possible. Otherwise they look great.
