I have been to this store. It is hit or miss in my opinion. However, they also run a store just north of Towson of exit 31? on 695 called Exotic Aquatics (same owners). I have been using this store since I entered the hobby, and I think the selection and prices are pretty good. They have a couple really impressive show tanks in the front and throughout the store as well. They seem to have any fish you could possibly want including some large size show fish. The store appears clean and there is no odor. I don't really see people on here talking about Exotic Aquatics but I think if you are close it's worth checking out. They used to do discounts on the weekends for livestock. Not sure if they still do.

Where does the "Unique" Coral naming come from?
BowieReefer84 replied to Novi's topic in General Discussion
I name my own once I buy them. I don't like people giving MY corals names for me. I never was a fan of Lord of the Rings, and thats the last thing I would refer anything in my tank as. Mostly I stick with names like Mr. Bojangles and Sharkie for the fish. For the corals I stick with names like the red mushrooms, the green polyps, and the beige softies, the different colored chalice down there next to the purple rock. Too much effort trying to remember names like "the super neon batman special edition limited chalice." Thats just my opinion. Plus if you told someone who isn't into aquariums the names they would laugh at you more than they already do (my personal experience). -
Clown Goby, Orange Spotted Goby, Neon Blue Goby, or Orange Lined Cardinal are all able to be kept in a 10gallon or larger tank. I think they are worthy candidates. Only one goby per tank is what they say. Live aquaria says they are all "easy" to keep as well, which might help in such a small tank. Edit: Liveaquaria has NANO as a type of fish to help with the selection process.

I will give that a try. Never heard of doing a freshwater dip before with corals (only iodine dips). I know some people do freshwater dips to fish for ich maybe? Feel like I've heard that. We shall see. Thanks for the tip. -

How long should I put them in freshwater for? I have never done this before so explain it to me like I am five years old. Thanks!!! -
I am wondering what the best power compact bulbs are? In the past I have picked up whatever the local petsmart has in stock, but I want to try to actually get something I know is decent. I use 1 actinic and 1 6500k. THANKS

My tank is only 29gallons. I only have some mushrooms, gsp's, colt coral, xenia, and some chalice frags. I am just trying to get the hang of reefing before I upgrade. I know they are bottom of the barrel palys, but I want to make them healthy just because. . . .I'll see how they do lower in the tank. Everything else is healthy so they should be ok. -
I think they are getting too much light? I had them up high in the tank, and I got a timer and started running my lights (power compacts) 12 hours a day. I used to only turn my lights on if I felt like it. Some days would get 12 hours some days would get 1-2 hours. They are turning white and curling up. They don't accept mysis like the others either. The color has always been brownish greenish so that's normal.... I appreciate any tips. I have already moved it to the bottom of the tank.

I always use my mouth to get the siphon going when doing a waterchange. Rarely am I able to "win" and stop before the water gets me. I never think much of it, because it's not like I haven't ever had real ocean water in my mouth. The powerhead in my tank isn't strong enough to get it started. Any tips?

I have a few chalice frags I recently picked up, and I plan to get some more. I do not care about rarity. What I would really like to hear is everyones experiences with their own chalice corals and how to get the best growth out of them. If you could give the name of the chalice, the lights they are under, the flow they get, and the growth they are showing that would be awesome. I'll start. I got a frag from MRCORAL a few weeks back called "who has pink eyes" I am keeping it in the top 1/3 of my tank under 65 watts of 6500k and 65 watts of actinic. It is receiving medium/easy flow. Has really colored up well, and still waiting for it to begin new growth. I would give more information on growth, but it has not been in the tank very long at all. Post some pics as well. I have no camera skills so I am not going to bother.

Can you give an update after the doctor? I am just curious because I never wear gloves, and I think it's time to start.
-
I would absolutely go to the doctor without hesitation. PERIOD. You never know the extent, or if it will get worse. Plus no two people respond the same to infections. Bee's can kill some while others are fine. Just be safe and get it checked out.

What's the best way to lower nitrate?
BowieReefer84 replied to BowieReefer84's topic in General Discussion
I was gonna ask if I should use a cheap vodka like Port Royal or a nice potato vodka like Chopin. haha just kidding. I will stay away. Thanks for the recommendation. -
my mushroom does that every once in a while. probably like once every few months. fixes itself.

What's the best way to lower nitrate?

http://www.wamas.org/forums/topic/36760-bowiereefers-29gal-with-130-watts-of-pcs/ There is a link to my tank setup. I really appreciate all the responses. I think will try feeding less as I feed a good amount now, and also water changes more often. -
Just did a water test with the following results: using all API tests. Nitrite- 0 Nitrate - 20 high range ph- 0 ammonia- 0 calcium- 540 (I need to stop with the purple up) haha KH- b/t 7 and 8. I would appreciate any thoughts on the nitrates? I have no idea how to solve this issue. Also, any other tests that I should be doing? Haven't done a water test in prob close to a year... THANKS

I have a coral beauty I really like. It is always swimming around. Definitely uses the whole tank . . .granted my tank is 29 gallons. I know they are hearty and reef safe.
