  1. Check out this link http://news.mongabay.com/2005/1117-corals.html About half way down the page is a section titled Acidic Oceans. Talks about the exponential rise in CO2 over the upcoming years. The entire article is a good read.
  2. Are you in the PG county area of Laurel? We must just be special with our Quality PG County Tap Water . . .haha
  3. This settles it. Safeway it is. Only $100 a year (260 gallons) for all top off and water changes with my 29 gallon tank. I can def deal with that. THANKS!
  4. which one do you have?
  5. Yea, Target sells gallons of Distilled water for 98cents each . . . when you say bottled are you refering to distilled or spring? I don't want to make any assumptions. Thanks
  6. Thank you for your input. I am going to contact Air Water Ice to see my options, and make a decision. You are correct in the fact that I go thru about 5 gallons a week b/t evaporation with the open top and water changes.
  7. Does anyone use distilled water to do water changes? I have been using tap water for some time with no ill effects, but want to switch over to doing things correct. I do not want to get an RO/DI unit because they waste so much water creating water, and I have no skills to hook one up or a place to put it, or a drain to tie into... In the past I have bought spring water jugs, but I don't think that's the best idea either. Basically I want a yes or no confirmation that distilled water is my next best choice. I have hear rumors that it contains copper from the distilleries, but don't think this is true anymore. Are there any good copper test kits out there to find out one way or another? Thanks for any guidance provided, and I'm sorry for being a NOOB. haha
  8. Is nanotuners the only place these LED's are sold?
  9. Thank you very much. The information you have provided is extremely useful to myself.
  10. There should be a forum titled "NEXT LEVEL REEFING" with posts like this LOL.
  11. Xenia, Leathers, GSP, Mushrooms, Candy Cane, Favia, Chalice's, a Clam... Plus snails, hermets, shrimp which I hear also benefit?
  12. I am currently not dosing anything to my tank other than Purple Up and Kent Coral Vite. I plan to stop using these two products and begin dosing B-Ionic 2 part, as I have heard very good things and the reviews on Marine Depot make it sound like liquid gold. My question is what test kits are best to measure Calcium and Alk? I want to make sure I get a good baseline BEFORE adding any Bionic so I can dial in the proper amount to dose.
  13. Can't this be put in the "general discussion" since it seems he is getting out and selling everything?
  14. Here is a good picture of my shrimp cleaning the coral beauty. They do it all the time.
  15. Sanjay's rare Purple Efflatounaria $25 a stalk , 2 sold. http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk171/lazibonez/purplexenia1-1.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.manhattanreefs.com/forum/general-discussion/57682-lazis-2009-swap-list.html&usg=__XZALETdcWkBEX87KHyRk5UvYl-A=&h=612&w=666&sz=100&hl=en&start=5&um=1&itbs=1&tbnid=GKpVtsEii-8G0M:&tbnh=127&tbnw=138&prev=/images%3Fq%3Defflatounaria%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26safe%3Doff%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26hs%3DOhj%26sa%3DX%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official%26tbs%3Disch:1 near the bottom of the page . . . .settled. haha
  16. I have no idea. If you want to trade I'll give you some of my pulsing xenia like 5-10 stalks for a couple of your shrooms? Maybe it's just the different species. pm me if interested.
  17. Yea, I do not plan on mixing any hard corals or even zoas in with what I have now. I am using this tank as a test run for whenever I upgrade which will be no time soon. Good call on taking pictures. The frag of xenia I got about a year or less ago started as ONE stalk. It is now probably 20+ stalks. I am definately going to take pictures for future refernce. Thanks.
  18. Ok, So here is the deal. I have Pulsing Xenia, Long GSP, and Short GSP in my tank spreading like crazy (which I am happy with). However, I have multiple types of mushrooms that live fine / take food, but are not spreading/splitting at all. I have moderate flow and Power Compact Lighting with good water parameters. "All else equal" what could be the reason? I know some people can not even get pulsing xenia to stay alive, and have mushrooms spreading like crazy!??! What gives? I know many of you are SPS lovers and would tell me to let it all die, but it's my first tank and its only 29 gallons. I just get pleasure out of seeing corals multiply whether they are considered nice or not.
  19. Honestly, I have bought from them and have never had a problem. Been in about 3 or 4 times. One time I just talked to John for about a half hour and was only buying some frozen mysis. They had two sharks in a baby pool. I thought it was pretty cool. Edit: title of thread is House of Tropics. My comment is about seasave.
  20. LOL. I dunno. Just be ready for really nice people who care about the world and its inhabitants, or really crazies.
  21. I bought a fish labeled as a "Lizard Fish" from HOT. They didn't know if it was reefsafe. I only paid like $20 for it. Ended up looking it up on That Pet Place and it is a Red Spotted Sandperch http://www.thatpetplace.com/pet/prod/206591/product.web In the end I am happy, but being that I do not have the knowledge of some people, it would be nice if the store had the knowledge.
  22. Yea, my roomate in college worked at HOT in highschool . . .so my info is probably dated lol. However, I have also been to seasave. They have a bad rap on the internet, but they were very nice to me. Only a lady and man work there from what I have seen, and they both seem to have good knowledge. I know he builds some filters that he sells, and the directions are on the site which look like a good system. I wish they would post prices (seems to be the main problem everywhere). The customer service can be off putting. I have walked in before, and if they are in "the back" by the QT's you think you are alone.... I must say the store is always extremely clean. He is the one that got me to stop using brine and switch to frozen mysis. I like that they focus on simple reef keeping.
