  1. I think I'm just most suprised I had some of my corals survive this. I'll take a picture of the devestation this afternoon.
  2. We did try, the problem became the sink was in the same room and she prefered the sink even with the measures we took to make it less appealing. Come to think of it, keeping the sink full of water is probably why she associates the fish tank as a litter box now... SONOFA!!! I'm hoping that just keeping the tank covered will be enough, I don't have issues with her going anywhere else, just the sinks and now the tank. Thanks for the offer.
  3. Have one of those too! She is actually quite an angel compared to Mako. Penny just likes to eat frag plugs.
  4. We had tried that at one point in time, but even covered in tape, tinfoil, fans, watermisters, and a motion activated siren which only served to scare the ever living %$#* out of me in the middle of the night the sink was more enticing than the litterbox toilet. This cat is a true moron and worse yet, she is a stubborn moron.
  5. Haha, yes.. yes it is. Hadn't even noticed until you said something. Yeah, Mako used to be an out doors cat, but she developed a severe limp and we figured it was connected to her being a moron (She loved to jump from the roof onto the concrete patio). Since the limp we decided to keep her indoors, something she has had a hard time adjusting to. We have to keep all the bathroom doors closed otherwise she pees in the sink. There is a very easy fix for this problem, so I'm not too mad. I just need to take out the dremel and modify my refugium to allow for a lid/fan. I'll post a picture later to illustrate what needs to be done. It's actually not that hard, it's a Biocube 29 so she just sat ontop hung her fanny over the refugium and unleashed an aquatic apocalypse. .
  6. So over the past month my tank went from pristine with great coral growth to what may only be described as an armpit on a 97 degree day. I couldn't figure out where all the ammonia and nitrates came from. I reduced my feeding to next to nothing and every time I tested things were still worsening. I was doing a water change every day, but still things got worse. I was tearing my hair out over the past month trying to figure out what was wrong, I even suspected the female unit in the house to be a saboteur. This past weekend I discovered the source of the problem, one of the cats was peeing into the refugium of the tank, which I leave uncovered to blow a fan across when the temperature gets high. Tank isn’t a total loss, but I did loose the majority of my coral which is annoying. Just thought I’d share my misfortune and get a couple good laughs.
  7. What were you searching on the internet to come across this?! .. ... only kidding! Pretty cool find.
  8. LED > MH > T5 in my opinion. LED is really nice because you can really customize the spectrum you're delivering to your corals. From what I remember Corals only have chlorophyll A which is most efficient under, 430NM Violet, 640NM Red and under 2700K-3500K Warm White corals grow the best. The problem being if you set up those spectrums for your display tank. Your tank will look like someone peed in it. For that reason most people forgo the violet/red and stick to the 440-460 NM range to get the blues, and then head to the 14k-20k range to eliminate the yellow. It's not optimal for coral growth, but it's a good balance of efficiency and aesthetics TLDR Get a quality bulb in the 14K-20K range and get supplemental lighting in the 430-460 range you will look good and grow well.
  9. That's interesting, I have a leopard wrasse and she did the same thing when I fed daily. I've backed off to only feeding my tank once a week (Don't worry guys she and a tailspot blenny are my only inhabitants). I now keep the tank stocked with pods and only manually feed once a week and she does a lot better. What where you feeding him every day? I was feeding Gutloaded Mysid when I noticed her getting drunk.
  10. Nitrate only goes down if it's being actively removed, either biologically or mechanically.
  11. I've found it goes like this 1)Think you know everything 2)Tank Cycles 3)Add to much livestock 4)Everything dies 5)Read a little bit, understand a little bit more 6)Repeat steps 1, 2, 3 and 4 7)Avoid steps 4 and 6.. 8) Profit Or at least that is how it worked for me
  12. An RO/DI system is pretty standard in the salt community. Welcome to Salt Water, happy reefing.
  13. If your in the Sterling area I'd be interested. But currently still have power.
  14. As far as I know nothing ate them. I just let the tank do its own thing for about 4 months and it was gone. I'm sure there is probably a little bit somewhere in there. They might of starved off.
  15. My tank is smaller, I couldn't take the huge corals, but I was interested in. Blue Monster Frag (smaller)$25 May be interested in the $100 frag, but I'd need to know it's approx size. Jason Fox Snakehead acro $50 Montipora Digitata $10 Green Slimer Acro $25
  16. Yup Droids, mine went away as the tank got a little older.
  17. Uhhh... seems half my post is missing up there. I wanted to know Interface - which is easiest to use Easiest up upgrade for future expansion Reliability, has anyone had one fail on them Overall experience with using the units, positive or negative.
  18. Trying to decide between the two and I don't have any experience with controllers at all. Anyone have any experience with either of the two? I am interested in knowing: Which interface is easiest to work with and program Upgradeability Reliability Customer Service Ease of use through the internet Am I able to name the channels?
  19. Wow, I had to do a double take. She not only looks exactly like a woman I work with, she is also a microbiologist with the same sense of humor. This speaker sounds fun
  20. "Them" being the rubble to the aquascape. I don't have any experience with that particular type of anemone, but with all others I have had experience with, it matters little where you want it to be in your aquascape, it
  21. Ya, I'm not sure about that either, I've never ordered any livestock online. Jan might know. Also, I looked at their shipping charges again, Gift Certs, don't count to discounted shipping. So only 100-150 of my money will be going for the reduced shipping rate. Better than nothing!
  22. Welcome to WAMAS, and congratulations on the Raffle wins! I'm the guy who was sitting in front of you who won a couple things as well. I'd also like to get in on this Fantastic Frags order, going to be ordering about $200 worth which brings our shipping down to $0.
