  1. Whats happening when the salt gets wet is calcium and carbonate ions precipitate forming calcium carbonate crystals. The crystals do not easily dissolve in the pH of saltwater. When you try and mix the water whats left at the bottom looks exactly like undissolved salt. You can try and leave it for an extended amount of time and it might break down and dissolve. You could go the fast route and drop the pH to 6-7 and the crystals will dissolve then bring the pH back up.
  2. +1 Really enjoy the store!
  3. I haven't decided on demensions yet. The minimum will be 30" by 27 which will have a 3inch rim around the tank. But as you said it would all be pretty much hidden. So I'm thinking of building my load bearing portion of the stand 27"x24" Then adding on space on the right side of the stand for storage and installing drawers. I just haven't decided 100% what I want to do. Yea, I've actually already thought about the sloshing water on a rimless. (One of the reasons I don't want the tank sitting on wood and possibly warping due to moisture) The only issue I see with building the stand with a wood/granite top is it not giving the look I want.
  4. Thanks for the Habitat for Humanity Restore idea. I'll check them out this weekend.
  5. Hey guys, So I've decided I didn't like my 48" long tank and I've hired NAGA to build a 27x24x24 Cubeish Rimless tank. I'm in the planning process for my tank stand and I
  6. Thanks guys I'll give this a shot
  7. I'm trying to catch a Yellow Watchman Goby. I made a Plastic Bottle trap and so far it has only caught a cleaner shrimp. Any other ideas? I had surgery done on my foot so I can't drive out to get any supplies other than what I have on hand. 75 gallon tank
  8. **edit, I wasn't thinking. It would be irresponsible for me to give anything live out of my tank right now.
  9. I think steve is just recyling build photos now. Was this something you built back in 2008?! haha just kidding. Very nice build. Have you done anything with the stand or did you keep it open?
  10. There are much better sites than Brewtopia /sigh The sale thread is very active, 90% of my current tank came from members (even some of the fish).
  11. My Yellow Watchman goby gobbles them up.
  12. My Copperbanded Butterfly fish just did the same thing today. He is no where to be found, didn't come out during feeding. I noticed my Anemone is a little ablong as if he is trying to hide something...
  13. A Salt Monster for Halloween Or you can use pumps and turn them into a DSB or something Kalk Stirrer PolyFiber filter
  14. I'm going to do a Center column myself on my new cube I'm setting up. Both set ups have their perks, but for how I
  15. Ok so I've decided I don't want Acrylic. Did some reading online and with the comments made here, just doesn't seem like a good fit. Glass VS Starfire, it really doesn't make much a difference? If this is the case I probably won't go with the starphire.
  16. I'm looking at a 60-70 Gallon cube I'm very torn on the one up on the auctions right now. Yes its amazing, but it's not exactly what I wanted. I'm still thinking about it though. I'll need to do some measurements at home. I guess whats important to me is Clarity weight being least important. I forgot acrylic scratches really easily.. which is kind of a turn off.
  17. Hey guys, I'm having NAGA build me a custom cube for me. I
  18. Not my photo. Mine has a muuuch deeper green and the red is a more hot pink'ish color. I call it my Grinch chalice.
  19. I painted mine black used a regular brush. turned out fantastic. Welcome to come by and see and I'll let you borrow the paint I used if you want.
  20. pee will = ammonia Just my way of saying I'd add some ammonia. First time I cycled I did the same approach and just used the dead stuff on the dry rock. Tank with through a cycle and after I added my first fish the tank crashed.
  21. I'd pee in the tank to be safe.
  22. Took a couple pictures today figured I might share. I've got to get a new camera ha! It doesn't like to take a good picture. Still pretty light on the coral side. I'm probably going to start adding more SPS soon.
  23. Anytime man! Absolutely can't wait to see that tank finished.
  24. Friday NIGHT works for me. after 5ish
