  2. Definitely clean it out. Tunze makes a good skimmer. I'm using the Tunze 9010 myself right now. Ideally I'd like to step up to a BK 160 Mini <3
  3. I thought that was pretty hilarious actually.
  4. Let's call it "The Benjamin" and we'll market it as "green like a crisp $100" and to go with the whole theme frags can go for $100.
  5. Hey James, I got your PM and I responded, I'll apologize in advance for it's length. Apparently I'm not the most observant of folks because I somehow missed your signature. Something you may want to look into while you're taking care of this issue is cutting down on the amount you feed and the number of times you feed. Overfeeding can quickly lead to an uncontrollable outbreak of algae! My roommate looked after my tank for about 4 days while I was away and in that time he managed to get the tank covered in algae. I was able to manually remove some of it. I cleaned the glass and got that stuff stirred up into the water column, did my water change, cleaned my skimmer and put it back online, and dosed vodka in my water changes (at the time I was not using Prodibio). I know we all care deeply about our tanks but it's important to be cautious and take your time. Rushing things will only lead to more headaches!
  6. Just put it into the sump and fire her up! Just make sure you have the skimmer in the suggested amount of water, I know some of them are picky about it.
  7. If you don't mind me asking, which products are you using? Some of them should be used in conjunction with others. I've been seeing some great results in my tank and in others, but I have heard of individuals not seeing the same results. A number of them were not dosing correctly or weren't using the products together. Maybe we can help you get the most out of it so you don't see it as a waste To prevent an even greater disaster in an unstable environment you may want to look at smaller daily water changes so there aren't any swings. Hopefully that will prevent any coral loses. Do you know where your PO4, NO2, and NO3 are at currently? If you've discontinued used of Prodibio you may want to look into VSV (Vodka, Sugar, Vinegar) as a carbon source. Hopefully if you get boost your bacteria you'll be able to suffocate your HA. Hope you get things back on track with minimal loses. If you need a hand send me a PM.
  8. I hate to push a product but you might want to call Sean at AquaCo and talk to him about Prodibio. Him and I had a long discussion about it and he is one of the more informed people in the area. I had an algae out break and 2 weeks after running the system the last little bits that are left are dying off. NH3, PO4, NO2, and NO3 are all 0pmm in my tank now. It's easy to dose too, only once a week and bi-weekly for most of the stuff. It may help you get things back under control. Just a suggestion.
  9. So lets all find a neat frag, give it a funky name, and sell it for $5 less than ORA.
  10. I know I know, they're coming. Today was the start of my second week on Prodibio. Dosed 1 vial of Reef Booster and 1 vial Stronti. Seeing the little bit of algae in the display browning and starting to fall apart.
  11. Well the tank is only SPS and now that I'm running the Prodibio system I'm hoping to see some good growth. I'm not worried about my numbers staying higher than 375 but rather the ability to maintain the levels of Ca, Mg, and Alk necessary to see the good growth.
  12. I'm not sure what angle you're going for with this post but it seems like it's unnecessary. Am I missing out on something here? Do we get a greater discount if we praise one vendor and bash the rest? Someone give me the heads up on this because I don't want to be missing out on some good deals.
  13. I am noticing some brownish strings coming off the rocks and stuff. It looks somewhat like a slim. It may be related to the algae dying off. I had my roommate look after my tank and I think he may have misunderstood me and greatly overfeed the tank. Or it could also be related to this being my first week on Prodibio. I manually removed some of the algae but a lot of it is turning brown and dying off. My skimmer isn't doing much right now to pull anything out which is frustrating, but there is stuff in the cup so it's doing a little bit. I tested my water and I'm going to test again because it's just too good to be true. NH3: 0ppm PO4: 0ppm NO3: 0ppm NO4: 0ppm Alk: 9.6 Ca: 375 My Ca is definitely a little low which is why I'm now kicking my search for a doser into overdrive. The 9.6 Alk is high but I did some reading and people say that a higher Alk is great for SPS color as long as it remains below 12. A prolonged exposure to 12+ Alk can result in SPS burn. I've got no new algae growth I'm just waiting for the water changes and skimmer to get the junk out of the tank. I'm going to have to get a second job so I can justify getting a Bubble King I picked up three new pieces: 2 colonies and 1 frag. All need to do some serious coloring up since they lost some color at the store. One colony has a white acro crab and the other has 2 neon green shrimp in the branches. I've been watching them cleaning stuff out all morning. I've got to take some pictures of things I have for sale so I'll be adding some pictures of the tank a little later today.
  14. I'm actually putting together my own USB Microscope over the next week or so, when I have it up and operational I'll take some photos of this!
  15. I think you're missing the point of why people were upset. It's comments about other vendors like in your post that have upset people. Vendors or people acting on behalf of vendors should refrain from making comments about other shops.
  16. Are these pictures over days? weeks? minutes?
  17. Sweet so you're offering to go pick up ORA frags for me since he closes before I can get off of work and drive there? SWEET!
  18. That sucks too!! Any idea what happened?
  19. That's a bummmmmer! Any idea what's causing the issues? As long as your pieces are bug free I'd be willing to loan you some tank space to try and grow out one of your frags. Unless you have some objection to using systems like Prodibio (some people do). How long did it take you to grow those pieces out?
  20. Quick update ( I know I know, this thread is worthless without pictures )! I've added a couple things to the tank I picked up from Sean at AquaCo: 1 emerald crab 1 additional skunk cleaner (for a total of 2, they're buddies and work a cleaning station together) more snails 1 ORA Plumb Crazy 1 ORA Aussie Delicate As of Sunday I've started running the complete Prodibio system. I spoke with Sean at great length on the topic of NeoZeo/ZeoVit vs Prodibio and I feel that it'll be easy for me to run on my smaller system and will involve much less time and energy. I'll continue to do my 1 gallon water changes to export nutrients and add back in trace elements. I'm looking at the Profilux doser for Ca, Mg, and Alk. Everything in the tank is doing great, I had a little algae bloom while I was on vacation but that was from my roommate overfeeding the tank (he used 4 squares of frozen food in 5 days). I'm not worried about it though, everything is still in line and the algae has already started to die off. Polyp extension has been great and the colors are really starting to pop. The purple digi that started as brown is now a glowing metallic purple. New growth is visible on all the SPS in the tank (except those recent additions). I counted 9 aptaisia on the rock when I put it into the tank, all have since been consumed. I'm not sure if the peppermints or the copperbanded are responsible but either way I'm ecstatic! The only minor concern I have is one of my Anthias. The larger one had started her transformation to dominate male until she discovered her reflection. Now she seems to have stopped changing and spends a few minutes a day attacking the living bejesus out of her reflection. Not really sure what to do about that, it's not all the time, but it does happen a few times throughout the day. Suggestions? All in all I'm happy with the way the tank is coming, hopefully sometime in January I'll be switching out with a replacement tank that will be feel of blemishes.
  21. In the automatic water change thread I linked to some 6gph pumps. They go low, real low.
  22. Check out nano reef there are a couple of DIY threads with people using LEDs. If you're comfortable doing some wiring you can do it yourself real cheap. One thread even had a link to LEDs that came assembled and wired in little squares which made it even easier.
  23. Do you know the diameter of the outlet?
