In general most metal rusts in salt water. The other reason is people don't want the metal leaching into the water or reacting with the water creating toxic chemicals.
-
I'd be more than happy to bring it with me. But I don't know if y'all want that Montipora SP. (red monti cap) or not.
-
Ditto. Mine never eat anything but dead things and detritus. Must be something tasty on the sponge.

""the system is all low voltage so there is no risk of fire"" I can't believe they fed you that FUD. I wonder if the timer issue applies to their analog timers as well. I've been using them for years now w/out a problem <knock on wood>.

I'm good on the reflector. Thanks anyway. I still have the 'uber shiny' one from the replacement tank that I could use. Also, LEDs have their reflectors built in so I'm not sure how much it would help. I'm kinda done with my LED projects for the moment. As always, I'm willing to share info or help with a project if need be. Feel free to hit me for Qs. I left the stock moon lights in the tank. They work just fine. Tank is still rocking. I turned the fans on full time just to see if it would make a difference and WOW. I think there is a noticable difference in the LED's light output and the leptastria really seemed to like it too. So I'm going to leave them on while the LEDs are on from now on. Only problem is now the tank actually looses water. Before I only had to fill it about once a week but it could go probably two. Now I'll have to fill it everyday but it could go probably a week, tops.

I know that sounds easier, but I've had my Picasa set up for so long that I can't just up and move everything over. Just too much hassle; friends and family moving links and stuff. I'm figuring it out though. Where's my Ritalin...

***PLEASE POST THIS IN THE FAQ.*** I've spent *way* too much time trying to figure this out and I have a BS in IT. Also, if we can't upload pics, remove the button. It's just confusing.

My first and only Lemon Peel murdered my juvenile Hippo tang as soon as it entered my tank. I'd only keep them in a semi-agressive or aggressive tank. I didn't have any coral at the time. I have a coral beauty that I've never seen do any damage to my coral.

Well my camera finally came back from the repair facility and it works! Here's the gallery for the tank: http://picasaweb.google.com/forrestd991/9GallonLEDReefTank

Thanks for everyone's hard work and effort. The FF was fun. It was my first so, I really don't have anything to compare it with but I wish I could have stayed longer. I missed most of the days events because I had to take the barrels home one at a time soso I didn't get anything from the fragging to show off. Looks like some really nice peices came out of that. I did pick up the rainbow monti in the auction. I will post a pic of it as soon as I can get to a 'puter that'll let me up upload it to my photo album. Stupid firewall... Oh well. Thanks again y'all. Edit: As promised, Here are the pics: http://picasaweb.google.com/forrestd991/30...381695225642642 http://picasaweb.google.com/forrestd991/30...381716228917298 http://picasaweb.google.com/forrestd991/30...382084000163490 http://picasaweb.google.com/forrestd991/30...382103852031554

I need a check valve for 5/16" ID or OD tubing
Integral9 replied to jason the filter freak's topic in General Discussion
I've never heard of a 5/16th fitting. Probably a 3/8th or 1/4 will do. btw. ID = Inside Diameter, OD = Outside Diameter. If you didn't already know. Edit: Never mind. Speedlock, I know nothing about. I think Homedepot sells speedlock fittings though. -
That's incredible. Congratulations you're a dad / mom! As far as keeping the fry, yeah, Um, fat chance unless you have a breeder tank. Not only will mom and dad eat them, but so will everyone else and not to mention that you also seem to have some nest burglers. I had mated skunks at one point. They carry their young under their tails so nest burglers aren't a problem. But saving their fry is next to impossible w/out a breeder tank. Their fry basically became the biggest buffet my tank has ever seen. Not only were all the fishes involved, but so were mom and dad shrimp.

I can pick up some water to bring with me. *100th Post Woohoo!!!!

peronsally, I don't see the point in spending an extra $80 per ballast just to get 10% more out of the bulbs and the need to change them every 6 months. I'd just get a regular T5-HO ballast if I were you. You've already got 250W MH which is probably enough for a 72 cube. If you were just going to use T5s over the tank, then I would say get the Icecap ballasts. 2 IceCap 430s (to drive 4 bulbs total) or 2 Icecap 660s (to drive up to 8 bulbs)

Who's coming to the Frag Fest on 27 JULY 2008
Integral9 replied to YBeNormal's topic in General Discussion
me and my better half will be there. -
are you looking for full colonies or just frags? I have a nice frag of a montipora capnella (red) that has about 4 plates forming on it but is only about 2x3". Sorry, pics are unavailable as my camera is *still* at the Canon repair facility.... camera is back. Here is a pic of the colony. I put the frag piece I'm offering for a donation back on the colony it broke off of, but it hasn't reattached. The frag is circled. Sorry 'bout the image. Thought I fixed it.

96 gallon tank on hardwood floor. What inbetween?
Integral9 replied to Larry Grenier's topic in General Discussion
I just use another piece of hardwood flooring. For you situation, I'd just build a little platform out of the left over flooring, cut it to size trim off the tongue and grove edging, stain it and viola, tank stand pad that matches the hardwood flooring. -
DYK if all the APC UPS 12V? I think mine is an APC600 and like most of them the battery is toast. lasts about 30 sec or just beeps constantly when I plug it in, so it's been a door stop for the last 2 years. It's only 400W, so I don't think I can run my whole tank, but if I could plug a marine battery into it and be able to run my MJs that would be nice.

Glad you found your way. The adjustable tube is the one the water comes out of. Just grab it and give it a pull straight up, it will come out if you pull too far. It goes right back in though. A little twisting action might help to loosen the grunge on the friction neck. Sounds like you are "dry skimming". It's ok, just doesn't produce like "wet skimming" will. I think the difference is the amount of liquid in your cup. Also, once I put the PVC elbow on mine, the foam went up to about 1-1/2" from the top of the neck in the cup. Seems to be a good place for it. Takes about a week to fill up the cup. I highly rec the gate valve mod and to get rid of the adjustable tube (ie. just push it all the way down) as the weight of the gate valve / PVC elbow seem to force the pipe down over time causing the skimmer to fade in skimmate production.
-
I took the sponge off mine and put a PVC elbow on the top of the stand pipe. This works to direct the flow back into your sump and in my case, it trickles down the inside wall of the sump which reduces the noise. I'd like to implement the gate valve and recirculating mods, but I'm seriously considering taking down my 55 and selling everything off. This thread has good mods for ASMs. http://www.wamas.org/forums/index.php?show...c=22957&hl=

It's from tropic marin. I doubt petco caries it. If you can't find anything, The Aquarium Company had some in stock when I was there on Sunday.
-
dip it in an iodine based solution like pro-coral cure. Also, pod eaters like dragnets and wrasses should eat the red bugs. But will probably not wipe out the population... there's always one left.

A red tide in the Yellow Sea
Integral9 replied to Gatortailale's topic in Conservation & Sustainability
Sailing *ALWAYS* gets the shaft at the summer games. Coverage usually amounts to a sentence or two and that's if there is any at all. -
Actually everything is going very well. Mushrooms and zoas are doing just as well as ever. The blue leptastria continues to impress me. It's still getting bluer and the polyps are full now. The only fatality so far is the red monticap I put in there. Elian, the mantis, decided it would make an excellent door and I'm not one to argue with him or go sticking my fingers in his hole. But honestly, it does make a good door... Pics are coming. I finally got my camera shipped out to canon for repair. Should get it back next week. I will post pics as soon as I can. btw. I'm still looking for a home for the mantis shrimp. He's got a great personality, always poking his headout and flaring his smashers with a "are you threatening me?! you want some of this? how about a little bit of that? yeah, didn't think so." look. Quite the digger. Each day he opens and seals his cave entrances.. all 5 of them. If anyone's interested pm me. update: Canon is still working on my camera. They said I should have it back by the 10th. ugh. I was hoping to get pics of the fireworks... update 2: 7/18/08 Canon is still working on my camera. I called them and they said they are waiting on a part, but that they don't typically repair my camera with the kind of problem it has and just replace it with the current model. So I'm stoked that I'm gonna get a refurbed S5, but at the same time I'm pissed that I still don't have a camera. btw. Corals that I put in there are still alive.
