Heavy duty adjustable feet for a 135g stand
Integral9 replied to Integral9's topic in Do It Yourself
Good point. My tank will be sitting on my concrete foundation in my basement. If I was going to do this on my hardwood floors upstairs, I probably wouldn't be using these feet. There are wider based feet available on the site, although I haven't really looked into them for this application. To be honest, I would probably be looking at doing a floating support for the tank so that I could put as much of the stand on the ground as possible. I'm looking for some casters now to make moving the stand around a bit easier. Not loaded of course. -
Heavy duty adjustable feet for a 135g stand

That's great. Please let us know how they work out for you. btw. Depending on what's in / under your tank, you may have more weight than you are estimating. My setup will be all or mostly all in the stand, so I am estimating about 2200 lbs. I think I'm gonna order them tomorrow. Just looking for a dock sealer now to seal the inside of the cabinet. -
I've been looking for some cabinet feet to put on my tank stand to allow me to level it once I get it in place and I found these: http://www.rockler.c...t.cfm?page=2053 With a load capacity of 600lbs each they look promising. Also, I am told they can be adjusted with a load on them. I was wondering if anyone else has used or put adjustable legs on their stands? Would 4 be enough?

Oops. I guess, I got confused with all the images. My bad. Nice leveling system BBY.
-
Nice stand. I like the leveling system. I'd drill it if you can. I wouldn't do the overflow box if you didn't have to. I have them in my tanks and my biggest peeve, besides the room it occupies in the tank and the shadow is generates below it, is the dead spot behind it that no snail or fish can reach.

looking for a link to an article 2part vs reactor
Integral9 replied to zygote2k's topic in General Discussion
+1 A very informative article. I'm going to DIY a Nilsen Kalk Reactor (is that a TM?... I digress.), or look for one cheap. Thanks! -
I pulled the rocks out so you all can get a better look at them. Pics are here: http://picasaweb.google.com/forrestd991/RemovingGSP# THere are some additional pics here so: GSP rocks available are in the first two pics (same rock) and the pic of the rocks in the tub. be sure to click the magnifying glass in the top right corner to see the pics at full resolution. 1 large rock (first two pics) rocks in tub: 4 medium / small rocks what looks like one large rock is really 1 medium rock and 2 small rocks. the gsp is so encrusted on them that I didn't want to tear it apart.

I picked this up for my 9g and World Market. I forget how much I paid for it, but my wife liked it much more than the aquarium furniture at Petco / Pet Smart. It's not designed for a tank, but it works just the same. I could fit a tank inside if I could get it past the doors. ( you can ignore the wires and RO unit)

My favorite fish died last weekend (Griessingeri Goby ). Was in the tank for 2 years and due to it's elusiveness I only have mediocre pics at best. So here's another good fish... also, RIP. Submitter: Forrest, Integral9 Location: Integral's 55G Camera: Canon S7 Subject: Pepe the Purple Firefish

Sorry, no new pics today. Went to bed around 8pm last night. Was completely exhausted. I'll try again tonight. A couple of WAMASers have stepped up to trade it for bare rock. Thanks guys. I think the BBQ method is a bust too. Literally, as it could cause the rocks to explode like when you toss a river rock into a camp fire. Yeah it is. I have a small peice in my Mantis tank that I've been trying to get rid of for 6 months by leaving the lights off. While it has receded significantly, I can still see the base and it still opens up from time to time.

I don't have any dendros, but have had sun corals and do have other LPS that won't open unless there is food floating around. Are you target feeding it with plankton-like foods? They might need some coaxing to open up.

Well with the newborn i guess I shouldn't boil it. How about a BBQ? I BBQ cave-man style with a charcoal grill. I had a red monticap overgrow some brown buttons on my 30g. They were completely shaded for over a year and after I sold off the mother colony, they started to grow back. Very hardy little guys. Fortunately, not very aggressive. The GSP is basically taking over everything except the Green Hammer that sits above them and other things that haven't gotten a hold of yet. You may not remember, but when you came over to pick my xenia you probably noticed it. It's taken over about the center 1/3 of the 55g we picked the Xenia out of. Here is a link to a pic of it from September last year. It's grown probably a 2-3 inches in all directions since then. http://picasaweb.goo...feat=directlink I'll see if I can get a new pic up tonight.

I'm prepping my 55 for a move prior to my 135 going in and I want this stuff gone. I'm probably only going to use the rocks in my 55 as base rock so I don't really care of the condition of the rocks anymore. I've tried pulling it off the rocks (it just grows back). I've also pulled it off the rocks and soaked it in aiptaisia killer (it still grows back). I've tried to sell it a couple of times, but nobody wants it or has too much of it already. So I'm either going to put the rocks out in the sun or boil them in the lobster pot in my kitchen when my wife's out of the house. (ssshhhh....) I kinda feel bad about purposely killing coral... even if it is a GSP... But before I do that, anyone know a predator that will eat GSP? What else does it eat?

I have had that stuff in my tank as well. In my experience, it will run it's coarse and die off when it's food supply is diminished... I've tried blennys (both a two spot and a bi-color) but non of them touched the stuff. I've pulled dead frags out of my tank with it growing on it and even after a bleaching with pool-grade chlorine it was still on the coral skeleton. All of my other cleanup crews seemed to just clean it rather than eat it. It's really hard stuff to get rid of. In the end, I just let it be and it killed itself off. That took about a year and I had to keep blowing cyano off of it as it was acting as a detritus trap with it's very thick growth. You can see a pick of it in my tank here (around the tooth coral) before it died off: I believe I was able to identify it as an algae that lives mostly in high current / surf regions of the reef. So without an exceptional amount of flow over it, it should die off. You just have to keep up w/ your turkey baster and blast off the cyano / detritus that builds up on it. If you absolutely have to get rid of it I would try a small long spine urchin like this one: http://www.saltwater...of-2_p_393.html I have one and ime, it will eat your coraline, it will knock over anything not secured... even well secured and it is hard to move them manually. The one I have has been known to crawl over dividers in my sump, down drain lines from an HOB fuge and even hole up right next to a Mag-7. It has a very strong grip so removing it from even flat glass can be difficult. All that said, I love my urchin, the little bugger will eat just about anything and is very hardy. -
Got the 425s in on Friday and installed them right away. Good thing too as the other MJ-600 bought the farm in my tank and I'm running out of spare power heads to drop in. There's a nice strong but gentle flow in the tank now, a much needed improvement. I could see adding another 425 or two of the smaller nano's like BowieReefer has. I don't think it would be too much. Thanks for the info Charlie, I can see now that the 425s probably won't find a home in my 135.
-
No problem. Thanks for taking them off my hands. And thanks again for the post.
-
Thanks BowieReefer. That's exactly the kind of feedback I was hoping for. I went ahead and placed my order for 2 x nano 425gph which were also on sale. Also 20% off.. Charlie, what sizes do you have in your 55? I am trying to upgrade to a 135g so I am hoping the nano 425s might find a home in there.

Anyone have any experience with the Koralia power heads? I currently have 2 x MJ600s and a CPR aquafuge + PS and I feel the flow is a bit lacking. Well, 1 of the MJs just bought the farm and the other is a couple years old. I'm leaning towards the nano 425s for a couple of reasons. http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_ViewItem.aspx?idProduct=HD00715&child=HD00716 1) I've heard you need to go up a step due to the propellor vs. the impeller. 2) I want more flow. However, I am concerned the flow will be too high for my clown and assessor and I'll just create a standing tsunami / aquatic cyclone. (2x 425 + ~100 for the PS pump = 950 gph). Alternatively the Nano 240 isn't much better (if any) than the MJ600s and with the widened flow pattern it might even be less. Thanks

I'd drill it. External pumps overheat much faster than submersible pumps when running dry.

Well it's a good thing you caught him before he did any real damage. I had one once that ate my anemone. It was a shame Elian wasn't around to introduce himself. I'll let Elian know that his dinner date has gone missing and that he will be dining alone on frozen catfish tonight. The invitation will remain open, should be pop up again.
-
Ditto. They seem to eat just about everything I don't want and nothing I do. I just make sure I wear two layers of vinyl gloves when digging around in my tanks to avoid their bristles.
-
I have a mantis that I'm sure would love to have him for dinner. Where are you located?

Wow that's so bright I need sunglasses to look at it. Prizm brain?
