  1. have you checked overflows/ filter socks etc? I've found a fish once in the overflow after thinking he was dead for a month.
  2. I got them for about $2 per canister of it in walmart in florida. It was a seasonal kind of thing. Might want to ask so they consider getting it when the time rolls around.
  3. I've got a TDS tester, I can drop by with it next time we meet up.

  5. That guy reminds me of the softball size hermits from the Gulf of Mexico when I lived in Florida. Can you get a shot with some other things so I can get better prespective of his size?
  6. Just thought it might be interesting to hear whatever sounds the fish/crabs etc make. I know we don't have whales and dolphins, but I'm sure some interesting noises could be heard or a possible way to monitor pump health. There is a video in the comments showing a really simple one. http://www.instructables.com/id/Underwater...one-Hydrophone/
  7. I actually had a small airpump in florida I was able to power from a solar panel, but that was florida. think it was sold off durring my move. Not sure if this could help anyone but I'll put it out there as a possible backup plan for situations like this. http://www.solarkey.com/index.asp
  8. I agree, you need some GFI installed. I would have gone for the power strip to flip the button, had a friend or two get shocked when things like heaters bust open. No matter how many probes you put in your tank if that much power was sitting there it's not going to take just one path. Any kind of ground will have more or less juice flow depending how well it's grounded (maybe enough to drain the lethal limit). I doubt you can put enough probes to stop it. If your concerned about your fish they won't feel anythin *needs a pro to confirm that bit of info* From my experience, one of my friends marine tanks had a fault somewhere in the electrical that would give him the shock of his life, he didn't find it till a month later in a rio pump I think, either way the fish were fine. If something like a light is in your tank don't ever put your hand in there till you cut the power by pulling the plug or switching off the power strip. I'm no doctor but I'm guessing a shock like that could have stopped your heart. We all learn lots by doing so next time I'm sure you won't be so quick to stick your hand in the tank. If your arm still feels funny you might want to see a doctor.
  9. I had pretty much the same problem. For temp I'd do fresh water dip, it helped me for a while. If they are in heavy lighting you might want to try putting them in a semi shady area also. At least till you get the Furan-2. for zoa pox, i'd definitely use furan 2. Some people have suggested adding a UV to the tank. Depending on what you got some people I've heard never really get rid of it. http://www.zoaid.com/ this site is pretty much dedicated to Zoa and treatments. in this one, the guy actually was using some meds from the vet with some success. http://www.nano-reef.com/forums/index.php?...127258&st=0
  10. I had a elegance coral that didn't open up fully for 5 weeks. after that the thing opened right up. think I had my water around 78 it was in my 29G sps tank with 250W MH.
  11. Pretty skillful shot, found it on digg.com http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/comm...Luc_Viatour.jpg
  12. haven't gotten anything yet, still shopping. My old equipment is being shipped up from florida in a few days.
  13. yeah I had one back in florida. it's hard to meet the requirements for that stag horn coral seeing as the coral needs phytoplankton. and is very sensitive to other aggressive corals. Sometimes it would do something stupid and flip it's self upside down, keep an eye out the coral can hurt/kill the hermit if upside down too long.
  14. yeah we need a full list of parameters One time I had to do a water change with a different salt mix and it started RTN all over my sps. You might want to do small more frequent water changes and start running Carbon. sometimes I'll just get a filter sock and throw the carbon in there. when things go wrong it usually helps.
  15. That's ridiculous, all the other hermit crabs will make fun of him. Then he will get depressed and start overeating.. It will go strait to his hips!
  16. I had a deep sandbed and never ran into a nitrate problem. Try adding some live rock or a remote deep sand bed in a bucket
  17. besides overfeeding, and me being to lazy to read if someone suggested this or not, why don't you look into a remote Deep Sand Bed. Take a bucket and fill it with cheap sand have a pump push water into it and a hole were you want the water to exit back into the sump. I'm sure there are many unique ways to do this. I heard it does wonders for denitrification after the beneficial bacteria get going.
  18. nas snails are great imo they seem to only eat leftover foods, don't think they touch poo poo :(
  19. I'm a maybe as well
  20. I've heard of people using two skimmers before, one for wet and one for dry skim. Think it's in Anthony Califo book.
  21. Welcome, wish I was there to meet you. Maybe we will have a tank tour or whatever soon so I can meet some people.
  22. Man... stuck at work installing wifi... I've been wanting to see everyone for months now.
  23. I've had zoas in bad places before, most of the time they just move also. I'd just point a power head on the BTA to make it move if you want to save the zoas.
