  1. http://www.nanotuners.com/product_info.php...products_id=435 I'm still in uncertian locations right now so the only way I can think to tame the itch for a reef will be a nano tank. Anyone have one of these or know someone that does?
  2. I had similar issues with that happening in my 29 gallon SPS. I Quickly started doing Lugol's Dip think Kent makes it. It stopped the Skin deterioration and the corals slowly started growing back. Not sure if we have the same thing but its worth a try. Make sure you take the infected corals under a unmagnified glass and check for parasites. Sometimes things like Red Bugs are very small. usually red bugs will bleach the coral a little before finally killing it off. http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_ViewItem~Sea...de~vendor~.html
  3. Got no tank... but hey I'll be there anyhow! Should be starting one up very soon.
  4. Any more tank tours going on? I'm interested in seeing some member tanks!
  5. thanks to everyone that replied I sent some of you that are around 10-20 mins away. If I didn't send you one feel free to PM me and I'll send you my cell. Had some running around to do this Sunday morning but I'm done. My Afternoon and evening are pretty clear LMK! Jeff
  6. I was actually doing a research paper on this. I'm trying to find the emails I had between Tom and I but basicly he told me due to the chemical reactions such as creation of chlorine. It's hard to monitor these things in a regular marine aquarium. He suggested Lime Water (calcium hydroxide) works great. I'll look for that email but here are some links I found on it. --------------------------------------- Conceived by coral expert Tom Goreau of the United States and German architecture professor Wolf Hilbertz, the project began four years ago and has already achieved remarkable results. http://news.scotsman.com/scitech.cfm?id=5557%2002005 http://www.globalcoral.org/ http://www.globalcoral.org/pemuteran_coral...restoration.htm http://www.biorock-thailand.com/index.html http://www.biorock-thailand.com/samui-fishery-intro.html http://www.biorock-thailand.com/process.html http://ia301108.us.archive.org/1/items/Tid...estoration1.mov http://www.patentstorm.us/patents/5543034-fulltext.html http://www.biorock.net/ http://www.biorock.net/Technologies/index.html http://www.reefhq.com.au/home/behind_the_s...tion_experiment
  7. I was going to build a closed loop with a SCWD, you might want to look into that it's a great product melev's reef has some instructions.
  8. I'm done with overflows, my next tank will be drilled. It's hard to explain to family members how to fix the thing when siphon breaks. Of couse that kind of stuff only happens when your away :D
  9. I don't know how many times I've been strait up lied to by a LFS back in florida. I'd be staring a skin and bones, then ask if it was alright and she would tell me yah it eats like a pig but each time frozen food was put in for demonstration bits of mysis would just bounce right off a mandarins head while it stood there in confusion looking for food. :(
  10. I know you said flake but might I interest you in frozen DIY food? Just get a bag of mixed seafood mix from any store that doesn't use preservatives so you don't get those phosphate spikes. Blend it up and dump the paste into a ziplock bag freeze and rip off a piece whenever it's feeding time. rub it in the water, I've found it was all my corals and fish needed. a one gallon bag packed about half a finger nail deep lasted months and I've still got leftovers.
  11. I made the mistake of letting cheato into my main tank.. It never went away and nothing ate it. although it was a great way to do nutrient export. Infact I've seen a system that only used cheato with no skimmer. One of the best looking tanks I've ever seen. (it was a nano)
  12. Thanks, I appreciate it. That's near the airport isn't it? It's a bit of a drive but heck I'd like to see your tank.
  13. I found out the hard way with a used bulb and angry SPS :( RTN and all. Eventually recovered the last club I was in we talked about getting a PAR meter for the club.
  14. Hey guys, I'm very new to the area and have 11months experience in the hobby with a 29 gallon. I'm just wondering who's out there. I'm 24 got called to come up here from FL to do IT work. Anyhow, if your in the area I'd like to check out your tank. I joined a few weeks ago as a member but have been busy settling in. I'd like to do a 12-29 gallon cube for work maybe modded. Just starting out I won't have all the equipment like RO/DI to get the system off the ground if someone could temp help with water lmk. Might be half a month before I'm ready to start a new tank
  15. this seems like an active enough club for me, Just Joined and paid for membership.
  16. yeah $20 isn't bad. I've spent more on fish that have died :D
  17. I just got a job in North VA, I was a member of the Florida Panhandle Reefkeepers. I'm 24 and work in IT. I've got a 29G in Florida, I'll be moving livestock/etc up in December after I've found a place. I'm thinking of a 75G or 40 Breeder. my tank is going on 10 months. Just wanted to make my presence known and meet some people in the area. I'll be working in the Kingstowne VA area.
