  1. When the bulbs are cool, pull them out of the socket and see if there is any marking on each bub - like a brand name, or 10k, 14k, 20 .... Could be possible that person who sold them to you put in two old bulbs of different brands. Unless you know the date they were first installed, or on a budget, I would replace with new. Why they cut out -- I'll leave that to the electricians of the club - like tgallo

  3. It's great to get lots of toys for the tank, but unless you know what you are doing - how to use them, you may do more harm than good. I would also advise you to read this article by Sanjay on running calcium reactor. I'm just trying to be helpful so don't take this the wrong way, but looking at your updated photo of what coral you have in your tank - I don't see the need for a calcium reactor or the fact that there is much use of alk and calcium by the livestock in your tank. Until you get much more corals stocked in your tank, you may be better off with a 2 part solution and / or water changes. Also - you got a AC jr. plus a fancy ph monitor - why didn't you just get a AC III where you can monitor and control 2 ph probes - appears your intent is to use one probe for tank and one for calcium reactor. Just my opinion.
  4. Thank goodness for ACIII and chiller - my chiller doing just fine keeping up with tank temp and running 3 x 400w mh bulbs. It's nice to be at work and able to log onto controller and check stats. I even took caution of kicking off two of the bulbs for a bit to give AC a rest since it's 96 and no real need to run bulbs during afternoon hours.
  5. Forcast for 95 today. Watch your tank temp and consider turning off your lights early. Short photo period or no light for a day should not harm your corals. Better safe than cooking them at 84+ water temp.
  6. haven't seen any. If BRK or Fins can't order at price you like, then try stuper pets in annandale, or Aquarium center in Balt. Scales had some tanks when we there for social. If your up for a ride, thatpetplace has tanks at good price. IMO I would get a 210 AGA or 215 oceanic. Same size as 180 just 5 inches taller.
  7. Looks like rik bought all the sps they had in stock. Now that they have his loot, they can buy more stock!
  8. you and dbartco need to offer hill high pie at your next tank tour - then maybe people would be willing to drive that far west.

  10. This is what my OM 4-way looks like plumbed in. Not sure what kingfisher is talking about having it waterproof. The motor on top does not have any chance of having water touch it from housing. It uses magnetic force to spin "drum" inside housing. See page 1 of this thread: http://www.wamas.org/forums/index.php?show...c=6245&st=0 drilling established tank - VERY hard to do, almost best to have done it when tank was new. What are your options for location of holes and plumbing closed loop?
  11. Just wait till big brother imposes his tax on any future sales .
  12. the OM 4-way has 4 usually 1 inch outlets. You can insert I think 3 different "drums" into the unit that allow you to change the frequency of how often water is pushed out one of the 4 openings. You will also need to check OM website because the OM is only rated for around 3,000 gph or so ( perhaps more depending on which drum you get). The wavysea or other option of Sea-swirls just rotate the water back and forth with their sweep motion and usually you have steady stream of water coming out of them. You could add a squid, but they are not rated for much flow - least don't think they can take full flow of dart or more. I run my return through two 3/4 sea-swirls. On separate system, I have closed loop with dart pump and OM 4-way. In addition, I have two tunze stream 6100's. There is adding toys, and then there is adding toys. What is your goal here - more flow in tank? What are you currently using for flow? When it comes down to ease of adding flow, hard to beat the ease of adding a couple tunze streams on a 7095 controller. Sure they are a big bigger to look at than small inlet/outlet of closed loop pipes, but you can spend as much or more adding closed loop with dart, OM 4-way and pvc pipe and fittings.
  13. Happy Birthday Howard!
  14. Looks like a future totm to me. If it's anything like your tanks from the past, its gonna be awesome. Almost big enough to in
  15. I got one of them dual tds as well, I love it to see what TDS is going in and out - did water change last night and unit was running to make more RO/DI - it was something like 170 in before RO filters and 0 coming out of DI. Note, I do use spectrapure for my DI cartridges. Found for me spectrapure DI lasts longer than the aquafx ones. But that is just my opinion & experience.
  16. I got my RO from Aquafx (WAMAS MACNA Exhibitor) http://www.aquariumwaterfilters.com/index....p&Itemid=28
  17. 1) buy grounding probe 2) run carbon for few weeks or more 3) do 10% +water changes ever few days 4) let tank cycle for another few wees before adding anything. 5) sand - sure you probably can add some new sand to old to improve looks/texture. sorry for your loss - in future try to plug pumps, powerheads on separate outlets - circuits so if one trips, you still have water flow from another device on separate circuit. I have main return pump on one circuit; tunze streams on another circuit and closed loop on 3rd circuit.

  20. Saying stuff is "fine" doesn't cut it here - we like to see real numbers. Also, what is you salanity level - all you said was fine - and what are you using to test it? Swing-arms are always wrong 99+% of time. Were here to help, but we need more details. Below is quote from Copps TOTM - one of most successful members in hobby - read what he says about testing.
  21. Welcome to the club start by posting all your water quality stats - salinity, calcium, alk, ph, ... Then tell us what device you use to test - swing-arm or refractometer; brand of test kits; brand of salt Now tell us where you been buying / getting corals from. what brand of skimmer are you using? Do you use RO/DI water? Did you buy lights new or used? this should be a start for members to help you
  22. ha ha, glad he was not cutting chicken heads off with that blade. Look at the fun I missed.
