Josh, It only becomes a matter of "IF" because the fish could very well die from stress before it gets too big for the tank. It WILL get too big for the tank if it survives, and as Raf said, that will happen sooner rather than later. As attached as you are to that fish now, imagine how hard it will be to give him up two or three months from now. That's all we are trying to say. Seriously, I am not normally the fish police....but this is a bad situation for both you and that hippo, whether you want to agree with it or not. Tracy

Josh, Clownfish host in all sorts of stuff that isn't "natural" for them. Carpet anemones are "expert only" The BTA will be enough of a challenge to keep with your current set up. My clowns took 6 weeks before they found my anemone. Tracy

Spectacular!!! T

Something of a little different shape might be the way to go. I vote Sohal or Achilles! Tracy

I'll tell you what, Josh.....I'd gladly trade it for one tiny hippo tang! (Which will then go to Dave Lin for his school tank...if he wants it!) T

I have a couple things for trade at the meeting and will post pics tonight. (updated with pics) - large fist sized zoa combo rock: watermelons, plain green zoas, and yellow polyps - small frag of the infamous blue xenia (it just laid down a new glob/feeler a few days ago...should have hands by the meeting). It is being kept in both low light and low flow, so will arrive to you very blue. (not as blue in the pic as it is in the tank). This pic is of momma and baby....as you can see, hands are already forming. Not sure what I want/need besides maybe some sort of sea fan or gorgonian to hide my skimmer pump (something that doesn't have to be rooted in the sand). PM me with offers. Tracy

Just trying to be helpful, Josh. You've already experienced ich and adding a hippo is only likely to exacerbate the problem...let alone with limited rock, no skimmer, and a messy (yet sensitive, ich-prone) fish. Things don't occur in isolation in a reef tank....problems build on themselves, and you may be building toward some big ones which I am trying to help you avoid. Tracy

Leishman's 60 litre (18g) ADA Nano Build

Beautiful! Those clowns crack me up. Guess they call them clown fish for a reason! LOL Tracy -
Alright darlin'....what is that blue hippo tang doing in there? You've been doing a great job asking questions on the forum, but I don't remember seeing this one come up. He may be tiny now, but they don't call it a "hippo" for nothing. I've never considered myself the Tang Police, but with the limited LR and a fast growing messy fish, this will lead to problems that you just don't need. Also, you need a clam person to chime in and give you some advice on yours. It's not looking very happy. Tracy

I've heard this phenomenon too...almost like in the smaller tank, they were too crowded to fight. Now they have a big huge territory and the purple one WANTS it. Have you tried hanging a small mirror on the tank? I hear this is a good way to re-direct tang aggression (as the purple will go after his alter ego in the mirror and leave the yellow one alone) Tracy

Looking awesome.....seems to be coming along quickly. Can't believe how that macro has taken off! Tracy

GSP gets a bad rap, along with xenia....LOL. The neon GSP in my main tank is on a solitary rock on the bottom of my tank. It's kept in check by my anemone on one side, and about an inch of sand and a "cliff" on the other. Enjoy it! I do!

Thinking of this Nano setup, what do you guys think?
zotzer replied to Freezerburn's topic in Nano Tanks
It actually comes with a top, just not shown in the pics. T You might want to try googling it. Marine Scene is very pricey. You can see one there, but I wouldn't buy it there. Not knocking MS....I buy a lot of stuff there and they are great to deal with, just expensive for this sort of thing. Tracy -

Have you seen this one? They have one set up at Marine Scene (no livestock, just a display) and it is pretty slick! Multiple lighting options too. http://www.current-usa.com/solana.html Tracy -
I've read recently that Marco rocks (in spite of incredible reviews) has been very slow to fill orders lately. Bulk Reef Supply carries them too. I think they call them EcoRox. Tracy

The tank is looking really good, Aaron! Tracy

davelin315's 300 Gallon In Wall Reef Tank

Great job on the wall Dave....and I love your aquascaping!! Tracy -
I think because the tang was hiding in a coffee cup while in qt. T

I sliced up several rics. 1-2 weeks and you'd never know any of them were cut. 100% survival rate too. (these were ricordea florida, not yuma, however) Tracy

Haven't updated in a while and have had a lot going on. Will try to get some pics later... 1) as of last night, I am making my own water! LOL Small step, but fun. Much easier lugging it within my own house rather than from the LFS. 2) after months of fiddling around with flow (trying to upgrade from just two K1s, I seem to have found a magic combo. A K-nano and K1 on one side, and a K2 on the other. Will get some pics later to show positioning, but the K-nano has a small enough hanging magnet that is attached on my CPR pre-skimmer box. LOL 3) I've lost two corals....a neon green candy cane, and while on it's way out it took out my Dr. Mac blue monster scroll (which had been growing gangbusters!!). I blame this on: 4) lighting upgrade! My 4-lamp T5 has been swapped out for the new Nova Pro 6-lamp fixture. It has caused a birdsnest to fade out also, but it is not "bleached" per an earlier discussion on another thread. At least I sure hope it's not, as this has also been a very fast grower in my tank. 5) I noticed a white area on the bottom of one of my monti digi's. It was caused by Medusa (LTA) stings, so today I jury-rigged a tile with some epoxy as a "block". Looks like crap, but hopefully I can get some zoas or something to grow on it and make it a little less obvious. The Royal Gramma is now always out and about in the tank. The Hit Squad seems to have become accustomed to it, and it is now always visible. That's it for now. Will try to get some pics before I head off to the SuperBowl party. If not today....soon! Tracy
