  1. Good luck and hope for a speedy recovery!
  2. I have to also give a vote to BRS Pukani... great shape and very porous (super light so you will get a huge amount). I ordered 25# just so I could cherry pick for a 17g and a 8g tank - still ended up with 2/3 the case left over, lol.
  3. LOL, nice drawing Mari, it may be a bit edgy for some members to wear on a shirt but this is hilarious! I think a well designed logo would be a great first step! Are we actively accepting new logo design proposals at the moment?
  4. Wondering if there is an official WAMAS tshirt or if there is an online store?
  5. I picked up an Elegance at WAMAS's Frag Fest from Pacific East Aquaculture, it did very well up to last week when it got stung by the Wall Hammer (seems to be recovering, thankfully). I'd definitely recommend checking out Pacific East Aquaculture's collection, the one I got was fragged and healed nicely before sales.
  6. I feel like I am the only one that have had no issue with PetCo fish (Congressional PetCo): 3 Bangaii Cardinals (sold), baby Hippo Tang, Yellow Clown Goby, all very healthy and doing well... *knock on wood* the Congressional PetCo's tanks have their ups and downs, I am guessing it has to do with who are taking care of the tanks. Germantown PetCo's aquatic department always seems to do a good job with the given equipment. Btw, I think there is a 20% off sale at PetCo for saltwater fish & inverts this weekend.
  7. The guy that called 15 mins before closing and asked for sexing the fish? Yes that's me. I'll come by tomorrow, thanks again!
  8. Absolutely. I am seeing $170 regular sized Purple Tangs now. People can't afford to use damsels to cycle now...
  9. Thank you for the headsup, I will give them a call now!
  10. Have anyone seen any Yasha goby available at a LFS recently? I saw one at Congressional but it's most likely a female, looking for a male to pair up.
  11. Long time member but this was one of the first meetings that I have attended. I walked away very impressed on all levels. Thank you and I am sure I will be seeing you all again soon!
  12. Thanks, I will go with the LED bulb + either a clamp lamp or a socket. Question -- is there any concern for water splash if I use the clamp lamp? My biggest fear is it starting a fire, is that even possible? I am also looking into a waterproof socket that I could just hang from the top of the sump, but I am having trouble finding one on Amazon. I will drive to a Home Depot to see if they have either in store.
  13. Thanks guys! I'm looking into these LED grow bulbs to see which would fit best in the sump's space. For the housing, do I need to specifically buy a waterproof / outdoor one? is there such thing?
  14. My refugium light just quitted on me (MicMol Aqua Mini), what are some good options for a tight space? I'm trying to light a small refugium 10"x10"x12" and mainly trying to grow chaeto in there. Since the sump is in a cabinet the space is pretty humid and gets salt creep sometimes, I think that's what did my Aqua Mini in. Thanks guys!

    Gyre

I have a Gyre xf130 that you just ordered in a 45g cube and I am still a fan after 4 months of use. I used an end cap and converted it to single blade because the double blade's spread is too wide. I use the pulse mode to simulate a pseudo wave of sort. My first impression is in the video below, I will probably do a follow-up soon.
  16. Problem with any type of sectioning off or cornering method with this fish is that as soon as the net or anything foreign hits the water, it dodges back into the rock work. It is very, very cautious. Smart fish. The Royal Gramma is complete fine now, looks brand new and eating up my pods in the refugium... needs to move him asap!
  17. Thank you everyone for your advice! I placed an order for a small critter cage because I really liked the trap door idea. However, the following day the Gramma just swam right up to the glass as if to taunt me (he probably just wanted food), so I lost it and pulled his rock out along with him (actually caught the whole thing on video: ). Thankfully the tank was not too disturbed by it. If I need to pull another fish out in the future, I will at least have the critter cage handy. ;-) Thanks all, royal gramma + pair of bengaii cardinals going up for sale soon!
  18. For the last 3 weeks I have been trying to get a catch a royal gramma from a 45g cube tank. While the tank is small, the rock that royal gramma sometime hides in have corals attached so I am hoping to get the fish out without having to remove the rock. That said, I tried... - Coke bottle method, I left the bottle in the tank for 5 days and started baiting it with frozen mysis and flake... no luck. In fact, most of my fish ignored any food inside the bottle except for a yellow clown goby. - Turned light on full blast in the middle of the night, unfortunately the gramma lives among the rock. I was able to easily net out my clowns and bangaiis to be temporarily housed in the sump, so I could try the next, more extreme method. - Size #12 fishing hook (barb pressed in), with 6# clear fishing line. I tried a combination of fresh octopus and jamming frozen mysis on the hook, but the gramma would not bite, the the hook too big and line too obvious? At this point I am ready to just pull the big rock out to get the gramma once and for all. Before that though, does any one have any idea that I could try? This fish is very careful and at the first sign of trouble, it darts right into the rock work.
  19. Following along and especially interested to see if the OSF takes live black worm. Good luck!
  20. I had the red/green flashing error as well, it means the prop cannot spin smoothly for whatever reason. In my case, the prop would spin a few rotations slowly and stop. It turns out that my wet side was the issue, the back cover easily opened on mine and there was shaving on the magnet and a groove was developing, after I removed the shaving it worked again... for a month before it stopped for good. I decided to switch to the Gyre, but if I wanted to keep the MP40 I'd probably just buy a new wet side.
  21. No problem, would love to hear what you think of the Micro Smart ATO if you end up getting it!
  22. So the way it works is that the water level sits in the middle of the electronic eye, when the water gets lower than that the pump kicks in. You will need about an inch of clearance between the top rim and the water to fit half the height of the Smart ATO unit. Does that make sense?
  23. I was debating between the avast, tunze, tunze nano, and the smart ato. I also have limited space due to my tank's small footprint so I ended up going for the smart ato, even though it has less track records compared to the others. Before purchase, my main concern was that there is no fail-safe like the tunze. After using the smart ato for about half a year, it's a solid piece of equipment and it does have a build-in fail-safe. During refilling, if the water does not reach the proper height within a certain amount of time, the ato will shut off until manual reset, this prevents overflowing. It has given me no trouble up to this point and I really like tiny size. One potential issue is the chords length, especially since you will be running this in your tank which may be on a stand. The chords were quite short, you may end up having to get your ATO water container up on a stand as well, just something to consider.
