  1. I will get a photo for you tonight
  2. It is not, the controler looks like this: http://www.reefecosystems.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/mp40w-large1.jpg
  3. Stepping away from this great hobby for awhile, livestocks and main tank already sold, looking to sell the following: Teklight T5 36" 39wx6 + splashshield + legs, fxiture used for ~4 years, in decent shape, bulbs around 10 months. $160 Current T5 24" 24wx4 with independent on/off + 2 built-in timers + legs, great unit and in like new shape, only used for 4 months. $140 Vortech MP40w - works well, full disclosure: the [non-exposed] power wire was slipping out of the plastic casing, purely cosmetic and it is tucked back in. $360 20 gallon tall tank with very simple iron stand. $40 Free reef items, will give to whoever buy one of the above: Unopened reef glue and unopened eproxy from 2 little fishies (I think), nets, fish food, drip line with u hard tube, new grounding probe, won brother heather, carbon, etc. Thanks!
  4. I think it really depends on what you are keeping or thinking of keeping. Some corals require pristine water condition and some prefer nutrient rich water. My tank has no skimmer but I stick to softies, LPS and hardier SPS and they are doing well. Does have keep up with water change though.
  5. It really depends on what type of anemone you are trying to keep since they may have different requirements - for example bubble tip anemones seems to have no problem settling right next to each other. Any idea which you are researching to keep?
  6. I'd personally add the anemone at least a week or two before the fish / crab so it has a chance to settle down and find the right spot before being pestered.
  7. Ditto on the ATI Purple Plus, definitely worth comparing to the KZ Fiji.
  8. Also PMed but have not heard back
  9. I recently came across this thread: http://www.coralforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=39761 In summary, the author is explaining that there are two methods for a BTA to get energy: light / capture food - If there is a lot of light and not a lot of food, the anemone will bubble to increase surface area. - If there is a lot of prey and it is well fed, it will extend it's tentacles and stop bubbling. - A way to keep the bubble is to provide strong light and do no feed as much. - Sometimes once the anemone changed into one mode, it cannot revert back. Does the author's explanation falls in line with your observation?
  10. Just throwing my experience into the mix, I also used Chemiclean before with great result.
  11. Those are some amazing shots, I don't even know how you keep steady! I have an underwater housing for a very old Canon p&s, been looking for an excuse to upgrade. I also have a D90 and I'd be too nervous to put that in the water!
  12. Great pictures! May I ask what kind of camera you were using?
  13. Had the same tiger tail in my old 30g and later 65g tank for 3+ years, 0 issue.
  14. Very nice, looking forward to reading the future columns!
  15. Looks amazing!
  16. Thanks for the tip BowieReefer, I PMed him and he said they are pending but will let me know if the sale falls through.
  17. Thanks guys, I will look into a MP40w or possible two MP10s!
  18. With 3 powerheads hanging in my tank and still needing more flow, I'm thinking about upgrading to a Vortech. I have a 65 gallon tank measuring: 36x19x24 - Would a single MP10 be enough? I am keeping mostly LPS, softies, gorgonians and zoas.
  19. I had to battle Mojano before and it wasn't fun, definitely get them out asap. If there are just a few of them in an area that you cannot pull rock or scrape easily, I would try covering them with a small piece of rock. They will try to move towards the light by climbing on that rock which you can then remove. If the infestation runs deep, try a Bristle Tail Filefish (semi-reef safe, although mine never picked on anything), I have a video of my guy here before my tank breakdown:
  20. I used to when I kept a Copperband butterfly fish, all the other fish / hermits / anemones go crazy for the black worms. For 6 years my clown pair did not spawn, a month or so after I started feeding live black worms they started spawning / laying eggs. May be coincident, but I would like to think the worms are more nutritious and helped. I did not read Paul B's article, do you happen to have a link?
  21. Breathtaking natural reef, thanks for sharing!
  22. Rockville, MD (actually right at the border of Rockville and Gaithersburg) work down at DC, near Farragut North
