Thanks guys! ;-) Ideally I'd be able to hunt down naturally big pieces of LR, but the typical big ones I have found are only about half the tank's height. I might experiment with drilling multiple LRs and using an acrylic rod / eproxy to attach them together. Might be cool to create some ledges this way too!

I read some great tank threads here and thought I'd also add a thread and document my second wind with my 65g tank. My tank is seriously lacking in comparison to some posted here, but I thought some people might appreciate a tank from us normal folks. Originally my aquascape goal for this 65g tank is column rocks, this is also why I went with a 36" length instead of a 48" to get that extra height. However, halfway through the process green hair algae struck, and red flatworm right after. I was completely devastated by the one-two punch and just left the tank running by itself after trying many different "fixes" and found other ways to burn my money and took a break. Strangely, after leaving the tank alone for half a year doing nothing but topping off with just tap water (I was using bottled water), all the problems just went away, no trace of HA or RW in sight. Now I have a tank full of green tree leather and frogspawn. With my recently torn ACL I have been sitting home and staring at my tank everyday and I am hoping to complete the process of building the 3 columns, mainly extending the middle column and introduce a new rock structure on the right side extending all the way up to the powerhead. I am hoping to use this thread to document the progress. A little about my humble system: 65g, HOB refugium, no sump teklight t5 6x39w water pushed by 2 seio (i think 620?), trying to pick up one or two maxijets to replace burned out one hooked up to a wavemaker livestocks: pair of false perc clown, female has been with my for 7.5+ years pair of yellow watchman goby + pistol shrimp tiny hippo tang (very recent addition) cleaner shrimp pair of sexy shrimps Interesting bits: My Rose anemone and Purple LTA were literally touching at one point, instead of forcing one to move I decided to just wait and see what happens... they didn't sting each other and they continue to live dangerously close. My female false perc is seriously bullet proof *knock on wood*, she has been through two tank crashes with my old 30g that wiped out the entire tank but is still with me today! she is my pride and joy. I have attempted bigger swimming fish in the past, mainly to combat hair algae problem (yellow tang, rabbit fish x2, hippo tang), but for some reason they never lasted more than 2 weeks and half of the time body was never found... The YWGs have no issue at all and are thriving. I wonder if it has to do with the two anemones. Until next time!

Is it possible to distinguish the sex of yellow watchman goby? Aquarium One has a pair of very healthy looking yellow watchman that stay in the same burrow and tend to swim together (one ~1.5" another ~2" in length), is there any sure way to tell?

Thanks!

Sorry I am not sure if this is the correct forum section for it, I thought it probably fits here best. Mods pelase feel free to move if there is a more appropriate location. I have 3 fully grown polyps of PPE for sale on a plug (well, undersize of the plug ), I am getting ready to sell them for my parrot's vet bill. Just wondering what's the correct price to ask for them?

I got a 36" 6x39w over my 65g tank as well, and I got the shield. Figure it's easier to wipe down the shield than trying to wipe down the bulbs! No problem so far, have it running for more than 2 years already... Just got to wipe down the shield from time to time or it may block some light.

I used to be a regular there when I was going to school around the area a couple years back. I would always find some nifty new inverts / coral / fish each week. Now I pretty much always leave empty handed. :( Although still a HUGE selection on tanks at very decent price.

I heard massaging the anemone's foot with ice helps... maybe somebody here who have actually tried it can chime in. Good luck!

I feel your pain because I am fighting the same war right now. I also tried: 1) sea hare - got the dwarf type, apparently not the type that likes HA 2) foxface - did not touch the stuff... might be cause of the aggressive clowns I have 3) vietnamese hermits - no luck 4) tiger turbo, turbo snails - might have eat a little bit, not not enough to make a huge impact 5) yellow tang - currently in tank, picks at tiny pieces but not really mowing them down I notice the HA are also growing out of detritus on the sand, my next plan is to step up the flow and see if it helps... I have two SEIOS 820 pushing the water in my 65g and just picked up a wavemaker and I am planning to add two maxijets onto it and create more chaotic flow. I will report back if it helps... PS - I ALMOST picked up a lettuce nudi this past weekend from Congressional. But had the folks there put some HA right in front of the nudi... the nudi "sniffed" it and passed right along, so I passed on the nudi. Great thread, I will be watching this one for ideas!

I am willing to bet it's going to be called Google Shark.

I'm also around the area and I have been buying drinking water from "Drink More Water," honestly I don't really see that big of a change from when I was using tap when I had the 30g... does any body happen to know the quality of the bottled water there?
-
Dang! Sorry to hear and thanks for the warning... I don't even know how I got them, they just started showing up one day. :( I did not see your thread and I will look for it. I checked out Aquarium One but unfortunately they are out; F&F and BRK are a bit far from me, maybe I will just mail order this round. Thanks for the replies!

Does any body know of a LFS that carries Flat Worm Exit around the Rockville / Gaithersburg area?
-
Wow!!! Very nice, I will be watching this thread as well and dream that one day I can afford to run one this size!

Great info about Mantis, thanks! I have always wanted a clown mantis, but feared for my fingers...

Thanks, I never thought about that!! After I saw them I just had to try it... They are BIG, slightly shy of a foot. They are well stocked by the sea food market too. I also ate and saw a lot of interesting things there... they even have live and healthy cuttle fish for you to pick and eat. I cannot believe we are paying $100 for a live one here when it's viewed as everyday food over there.
-
Sure looks like one! Just thought it was wild actually eating them, they tasted a bit like lobster...
-
I have gotten corals from them before. No complain from me. They also have randomly good deals on stuff, like ricordea.
-
Thank you all! I will drop by SCALE tomorrow. Actually might go the Foxface route if there is any small ones there...
-
Did somebody say Algae?!
-
Does any body know if one of our LFS has some Sea Hare in? Ideally smaller ones... thnaks!

I asked and was given a 10% discount with the WAMAS membership card three times so far, never turned down yet...

Do you know if there is a significant different in terms of performance? Or is it just... a larger collection cup?

For the 50mm prime, did you get the one made in Japan or China? I heard the Japan one is much sharper... (I got one from China)
