  5. "I am schooled in several programming languages: C++, Java, SQL and FORTRAN..." FORTRAN! What, no COBOL? Holy mackrel, you must be as old as I am Does anyone under 30 even know what FORTRAN is? Sorry. I didn't mean to hijack the thread... FORTRAN!?!
  6. Are you using RO/DI water? If so, what are the TDS on the out flow?
  7. I have never seen ridge frog spawn. I assume it is like ridge hammer. Anyway, "trimming" frog spawn is as easy as grabing a piece of branch and pulling. It will snap right off. I have done is lots of times. In fact, I need to do it again soon! My frog spawn is taking up about a 1/3 of my 55.
  8. I use similar bulbs I got from Home Depot. They replaced 190 watt PCs with 38 watts. I leave them on 24x7 and they work just fine, producing the same amount of algae as the PCs.
  9. Where do you live. I am sure there are people near you that will show you how to peel the GSP away. Also, PLEASE ADD YOUR LOCATION TO YOUR PROFILE. That way I will not have to ask for your location
  10. Marine Scene has them for $20.
  11. The Aquarium Company in Reston has great sand prices on crushed coral. Roozens is also good, if you are willing to go with the dark side.
  12. Exactly! I would bet you need to replace your DI. Do you have an inline TDS meter? Can you check the RO before it goes into the DI filter?
  13. MOT, Please update your profile with your location. This is a friendly club, and there are lot of people near you that will be willing to help. Good luck! Quaz
  14. Maybe you have a worm that looks like this. That will eat a big fish, very fast. Of course, he has friends in your tank, too! Check the story out here
  15. Oh, I forgot my most invasive weed: encrusting gorgonian. It has wiped out mussels, and almost killed my big feather duster. I watch this stuff carefully.
  16. This is interesting, as some corals that are nuisance in one tank, will not grow in others. I have never been able to keep yellow polyps and I have generally not been able to keep Xenia or I have only been keep Xenia for up to 6 months before it crashes. Anthelia is my weed, I cannot get rid of it. My tank is also overwhelmed by green and green stripped mushrooms. I have some green Monti Cap that is an absolute pest. I think half of WAMAS has one of my Monti Cap pieces or successors. I used to give Fins and Feathers dinner plate size pieces every other month.
  17. I had a Won Brothers Titanium heater catch on fire. All heaters are dangerous.
  18. Some shower heads with hoses have SEVERAL chokes. In the shower-pic shower head that I have, I had to drill one choke to get decent water flow out of it.
  19. " I even unscrewed the faucet and cleaned it and it still not dispensing water like it should. " I am not sure what this means. Did you clean or even remove the aerator? Did you replace the cartdidges? Is the cut-off valve open (yes, just like the old, is the computer plugged in? question) Did you replace the cut-off valve like HR suggested? HR's post is right on. If the water from (or before) the cut-off is OK, then it is the faucet. But, the parts are usually the problem, not the faucet itself. "The whole is the sum of its parts!"
  20. I run a line out to my roses. They love the extra water!
  21. Probably snail eggs. Good going, if they live, you will have lots of snails cleaning your tank! Leave them in your tank!
  22. I have this from PetSmart as my basic back up plan. I lost power in my tank due to a broken heater last Friday. I have NO idea how long the power was off, but I am thinking 6 hours. The air pump was still working, but I did lose my Sailfin. Anyway, for $16.00 it is very inexpensive. The big probelm I have is that you cannot have an airstone on it, as the air stone get clogged up just sitting there. My airline hose was too shallow, or the tang would probably have made it.
  23. THis is why POLYFILTER is a must for every hobbiest. It will soak up copper and other heavy metals better than anything else. Keep some in your stack of stuff.
  24. Are you sure the peppermint is dead? You may have seen a molted shell. The peppermint might be hinding in the rock.
