Hmmm... well that sucks. I've had tanks crack VERY easily - and I've had some you could drop off the roof without hurting anything. I think the quality of glass must vary a lot. bob

are you looking to buy a tank in that range? I am just about to put my 58-gallon up for sale. But it is 36" x 18". I had a 12" deep tank, and didn't like it at all. Not enough options on the aquascaping. bob

Are these going to be the acro colonies like you used to get? Nana, Tenuis, etc... ??? bob

I tend to avoid Coralife products, after their timers nearly burned down a few houses... What are the dimensions of the tank?? If it's 48" long, you might want more than one 150W bulb? I don't know much about MH's... bob

Early next week, eh? Probably when you're closed? Make people stand around outside and peer through the windows? bob

Help!! What should I do about my custom tank?

Find someone up near them to pick it up for you, for cash - and stand by while they pack and ship. IDUNNOMAN - you're kind of stuck between a rock and hard place! bob -
Hadn't considered the expense of eXit ... try to find the smallest bottle of Allicin 6000 you can, and see if it's a savings over eXit. Get a pill crusher, or mortar and pestle, or crush them somehow. For a DIP only (haven't tested either the efficacy or safety of whole-tank treatment) - put one crushed pill per half-gallon of water in some tank water, mix well, and soak them for 15 mins. See if the flatties die! Do this on a night when you're having something with garlic for dinner, and you won't even notice the slight odor. bob

Wish you lived closer - would love to find out if my garlic dip kills them (Acoel Flatworms) as well as it kills AEFW. When I was switching tanks, from one infested with those things, I used Salifert eXit and tank water at double recommended dose in a bucket. Dipped for about 20 minutes, rinsed them off vigorously in a bucket of tank-change water (to shake loose any hiding in the rock or coral), and put them in the new tank. I ended up with no flatworms. bob

I'm glad someone revives one of these threads every once in a while as a reminder!!! It's so easy to become complacent. bob

Make sure the PM gets light from a couple of different directions. I'm finding under a single MH - the 'shaded' places are no longer purple, just the parts that get direct light. Agreed - Gadgets needs plenty of light for max color. I have NO luck with blue torts... Just had another frag disintegrate for me. Definitely needs good flow, thugh. bob

Not sure anyone knows... I have a 'rock-curing' tank where I throw such rocks, and leave them for months. The tank is healthy and 'cycled', so it probably doesn't take long. Eventually, the rock comes out for mounting corals, or whatever. In fact, I have quite a few corals growing in there, despite just having PC lighting over it to encourage coralline growth. Also - as long as the rock is nice and clean, I'm sure you can go ahead and use it in your tank without any 'cycle' - as long as you just ADD it, instead of replacing what you have. It's not going to hurt - it just isn't going to help much until it's built up a good colony of beneficial bacteria in it. Which still doesn't answer the original question - how long to build up that bacteria??? bob

That's where I'm having the biggest infestation - all over the plastic frag racks. Yes - they can be removed with a scalpel, but what a pain! bob

Very nice... glad to see someone's at least trying. If all goes well, those could be some awesome coral gardens in a few years. bob

I always have something to sell, but lately I haven't been keeping up well; so I don't have a LOT to sell. I've been kind of busy... bob

Until an animal has been in your tank for 6 months - it's somebody else's fault. The Bob rule. bob

You're right - the bottom of that thing is right in the MOUTH of the acan! bob

Looks like a Coco worm growing right out of the middle of it... bob

Cute... bob

PLenty of flow through the refugium?? While caulerpa will grow with almost no flow at all, chaeto likes some water movement. And don't even get me started on that red stuff... it likes LOTS of flow. bob

I have to vouch for the reliability of Tunze powerheads... it's the only one I have. The bracket broke off within a month or so of getting it, and I reconnected it to the magnet with wire ties. I put it in my 33-gallon frag tank well over a year ago, and haven't touched it since. Almost covered with Green Star Polyps that are climbing up the side of the tank. I cleaned it up yesterday, and it's working great. Part of my 'clean up the mess in that 33-gallon tank' project. bob

Have you ever heard of an AEFW infestation...

Actually, my leopard wrasse seemed to be more interested in the infested corals than usual for a while. Normally he spends his time in the back-left corner swimming in loops and circles. But even if he was eating them; he wouldn't be able to get 'inside' the colonies - especially the tightly-packed branches of the nana. bob -
Darren - does it ever make babies? How long have you had it? I don't have great luck wth yuma's, though for a while my filthy 24-gallon nano grew them like crazy. bob

I found a few (very few) on the first green slimer I removed from the DT. Obviously not one of their preferences, but agree - they will attack them. On the other hand - the acropora nana frag had dozens of them a month ago - obviously an AEFW 'treat'. Now - I can't find any evidence of them on the nana, either. As much as I would like to hope they have just gone away forever - I consider that pretty unlikely. I will be watching, while I treat and re-treat the ones that are in my isolation tank. bob -
Sometimes in this hobby - there is a lot of doubt and uncertainty... But, at other times, it is perfectly clear... Time to clean your Tunze!!! bob

No... maybe I wasn't clear - there are 4 acro's still left in the display tank; they have never been dipped. But they have no AEFW right now. The last several acro's that I 'made room for' in my other tanks did not have any AEFW when I pulled them out of the display tank. None of the corals currently in the display are showing any sign of AEFW depredation. The reason I cut a huge frag off of the red table acro was to make it small enough to fit in the isolation ward. But I didn't find anything at all on that piece. i.e. - it appears that currently my untreated display tank has no adult AEFW in it. I will keep observing, but if after a few weeks I don't see any indication of AEFW activity - I will start putting the display tank back together. Now that I know exactly what to look for - I don't think they will be able to 'sneak up on me' again. The loss of color on casual examination, and the bite marks on closer examination, are very noticeable indicators. bob
