  1. Sweet! Thanks for the great response everybody! I am not itching to buy today, just curious for when I have some extra cash in the next few weeks.
  2. I just wanted to know if there are a few locals who consistently have frags to trade/sell? I peruse Craigslist and occasionally come across some, but wanted to know if there is a better way to go about looking for frags? My reason being, my nano is not large, and I would love to start with some smaller sps/zoas and let them grow out. Thanks for any tips.
  3. Paul B - Funny, I am reading over your thread after reading the 35 year old reef tank article on RC, which piqued my interest in black worms. I am considering using them to get my clown pair to start spawning. Have you used them with clowns to get them breeding? Awesome set-up by the way. I am in DC, and apparently Congressional Aq. has 'em pretty cheap. Gonna have to pick some up! Thanks for the thread!
  4. I just checked out your Acan, darn, you have some awesome corals, any FTS?
  5. Wow - that is awesome. did you pick that up locally or off the web? I would love to pick up some Acans, but my budget seems a bit too tight for them at the moment.
  6. Some More Pics. And yes, I am aware my Maxima is precariously close to my GBTA, it has been moved ;-)
  7. Here are some quick snaps of my 5 month old nano. I had a rough start, but now have a stable, thriving tank. I added a lot of new stock from Blue Ribbon Koi (the frogspawn, brain, mag-frag, maxima, zoas, GBTA, GSP, and toadstool) so I had to take some pics! I just added the majority of the livestock a week ago, so I am eager to see it all fill in and for my clowns to hopefully pair up with the 'nem. My set-up is pretty basic. I dose Kent Nano 2-part daily, run an Aqua-C Remora, have a Coralife 150-watt Phoenix 14K HQI and try to do weekly or so 20% water changes. The brain and anemone are pigs, they both are eating chunks of raw shrimp. Enjoy!
  8. I have a newer tank (6 months) and I still get some brown algae on my sand, which is a coarse live sand I bought initially. I have a brittle star, had an urchin (had to get rid of it because it stripped my rocks of coralline), hermits, a sea cucumber and snails. Nothing I have confronts the algae sand problem, so I just make sure to churn the sand myself every time I do a water change to get some gunk out and rotate the sand. I am sorry I can't give you any specific advice, but just wanted to let you know, in my experience, there is no silver bullet. If you find one let me know though!
  9. I enjoy supporting local reef retailers, if you can call Manassas local to a DC resident, and I want to say that I really enjoyed my experience at Blue Ribbon Koi. Excellent tanks, intuitive pricing system (tanks with price posted versus the chalk all over the glass), extremely friendly and enthusiastic staff and a clean store. Definitely my favorite place out of the DC area stores I have visited so far, and I will give them MUCH repeat business. Again, I encourage a trip out to the store, I know I thoroughly enjoyed it and if the wife hadn't of been there I would have maxed out the credit card! I will post pics of my new items shortly!
  10. I just got a shipment of liverock from Tampa Bay Saltwater and there is a 2' mantis chipping away at the rock. I plan on catching him in the next couple of days and want to check to see if anyone is interested before I call around to the local fish stores. I would love to trade/sell him for a few bucks or for a frag, but want to see if anyone is interested. Cheers.
