  1. The large tank is to house the fish for the duration. I do plan to place the fish in smaller tanks for medication. I should have made the post more clear. I've been through this before. A few years ago I removed and treated all of the fish but this disease found its way back in.
  2. I have had what I call a mystery illness in my system for some time now. Recently it's gotten worse and a few fish have died as a result. Because of this, I will be QT'ing all of my fish and draining the system. It will remain dry for a month or so and fishless for 10-12 weeks total. The problem is that I'm having a hard time narrowing down the options when it comes to proper antibiotic treatment. I want to make sure I cover the whole spectrum to ensure the pathogen is eradicated. Based on the information below can someone please recommend me an antibiotic treatment? Symptoms- *A couple of the fish have cloudy eyes. Have treated the system for flukes using PraziPro with no improvement. *Ich is present in my system. Every now and then my powder blue tang will show a few spots. *More recently I noticed on my blonde naso tang that there are black spots, red gills and torn/tattered fins. To me, this indicates a turbellarian infection as described in this article; http://www.advancedaquarist.com/2007/10/aafeature1. I believe this is the root of my problems. The symptoms are more visible on the lighter gray colored naso tang but not noticeable on the darker fish. Treatment- * I will be removing all of the fish tonight and placing them in a 100g rubbermaid tub with no sand and no rock. *There will be large clay pots and large diameter PVC pipe for security. *I will be using two large sponge filters and a Tunze pump for circulation. * Treatment will consist of copper and an antibiotic of some sort.
  3. Little guy is doing well. His staple diet is still mussels although he does readily take flake food now. He also eats frozen brine shrimp but only a few before just watching them float by. Dave, thanks for the input! My ORP hovers around 350mV. It would be higher if I could keep this dang ozonizer online for more than a week without it breaking down.
  4. Ozone has been offline for about two weeks (thanks, Ozotech for a crummy pump) and the ORP is at 341 right now.
  5. We'll agree to disagree on skimmer sizing. The 2000 is rated for 200g heavy bioload and my display is 240g minus rock and sand. My sump and frag tank don't contribute to the bio load so IMO the skimmer is sized accordingly. Nutrients aren't an issue for me and the water is crystal clear, although I attribute some of that to the use of ozone. There's some voodoo and marketing involved with skimmer sizing. I get a fair amount of rancid skimmate from my cup every few days but not so much that indicates and undersized skimmer.
  6. Mine: 400g system volume HEAVY bioload (35 fish in the 240g display. 5 tangs, 6 angels, 8 anthias, 6 wrasses and they all eat a lot!) Skimmer is an Octopus SRO XP2000, External with the Bubble Blaster pump. I do run ozone. ORP is steady 325-350mV. I do not inject the O3 into the skimmer. I absolutely love the Octopus skimmers. Reliable, trouble free and the performance is excellent. If my system were any bigger I would consider stepping up to the next size and use their DC pump. Their "diablo" line of skimmers has my mouth watering.
  7. IME a combination of high alk and low nutrients spell disaster for acros. This is the reason that zeo users try to maintain lower alk. The unstable nature of a new system could be a contributing factor as well.
  8. I had them years ago. Look for eggs at the base of your polyps. Search google for pics of what to look for. I purchased a yellow wrasse which took care of the problem. This was back before dips were commercially available. Other wrasses like radiant and melanarus eat them also.
  9. Finally got a short video uploaded. Eats out of my hand now, too bad it will still only touch mussels. [yt] [/yt]
  10. Hmmm. Not sure how to post a video. I'll take one during tomorrows feeding and give it a shot.
  11. 'Lil guy annihilated some fresh mussels tonight. I was barely able to get my hand out of the tank before he had a mouthful. Hopefully it wont take too long to ween him onto other foods.
  12. It's a yellow belly, about 3.5". I can barely discern traces of the eyespot so it's not too old. Likely it came from the same place as yours. The market has been flooded the past few weeks. Seems like every retailer has had them.
  13. I plan to get some mussels on the way home from work tonight, I haven't been able to find any yet. I put some garlic soaked nori in there and the fish looked at it but never ate any. I didn't QT this fish. I gave it a couple medicated baths and then put it into my frag tank. Aside from an exiled ocellaris clown, the angel is the only fish in the tank.
  14. I have a regal angel who is slow to eat. It picks at a few things here and there but not enough to sustain itself. Does anyone have any tricks? I've used everything in my bag. I've tried the following: Live brine and blackworms PE mysis Frozen brine Scott's homemade brew Fresh clams on the half shell Sea scallops
  15. I had it in my system a few years back and not all fish were affected. I lost about 30% of my fish before deciding to take action. I set up a 200 gallon hospital/treatment tank in the basement and left the main system fallow for 12 weeks. Not easy to do with 20 fish but it worked. During the 12 weeks I treated with copper, Maracyn 1 & 2 and Prazi Pro. Since then all new additions are QT'd. With a nano, I'd imagine you can do it fairly easily with a 10 or 15 gallon tank. Then you'll never have to worry about it again.
  16. I've seen some frags of it in and around CMAS WAMAS over the past few years and none of them even closely resembled the real deal. They were likely sold by Mr.Coral as "LE wannabes".
  17. I had one for about a year in my old 120. Lost it in the move. I know George maintained a pair in his 280 for several years.
  18. Not from the GB, but I do have a nice frag from Adam at Battlecorals. We'll see how it grows I'll offer some frags.
  19. The maintenance company is having a fit with that system because the amount of natural sunlight it gets is causing tremendous algal blooms. For a long time, a diver was going in every single night to clean the algae from the glass and decorations.
  20. I run Sol's over my display and do not supplement with other spectrum LED's. A good friend of mine also runs the same lights. We are both getting growth and color similar to when he was running T5's and I was running 250w Radiums. I've seen a lot of theoretical information which suggests the extra spectrums help but have yet to see any quantifiable evidence of this being true. I know it's quite a drive, but you're welcome to come by and I can show you my tank.
  21. I got 10 frags as part of this group buy. All of the frags were giant by most standards. Every single one had multiple branches and were colored up very nicely. A far cry from the booger-sized, brown frags that are prevalent in the hobby today. Adam was a pleasure to deal with in every way possible. I would not think twice about purchasing from BC again or recommending him to anyone.
  22. That's a pretty standard practice. How do they know they shipped the wrong pump? For all they know, you are trying to scam them. If they give you a refund then how do they know that you'll return the pump? If you buy something at WalMart and it's broken or missing pieces, would you call them and ask for a refund? No. You'd have to take it back to the store to get a refund. Same thing with your pump. I once bought an item from overseas and the wrong thing was sent. I told them about it and they asked me to return it. Well the return shipping to China cost more than the item was worth. I tried to do a chargeback with my credit card company and they said I was SOL because I failed to return the goods.
  23. I can build you a nice steel one. Allows maximum access to the sump area and can paint it any color you want.
