  4. I built the stand on our 150g SPS display in our showroom. Everything was from scratch except I got the solid oak doors on the internet for maybe $30 each. They are well made and about 24x24... sorry, long time ago and I don't remember the website.
  5. What is the status on fish coral etc? We would like to help stock the tank. Phil
  6. I hear Colin's hair is 100% natural and does that as soon as he gets out of the Miami bay water!!! Thanks to the WAMAS officers for brining Colin in, for all their hard work year round, for the chance to talk a bit about what we do, and for the fun times at Frag Fest!!! Phil
  7. Colin is the best. Could be the hardest working, best aquarium industry / science community translator, environmentalist, and coral wholesaler in the world.
  8. Welcome! When I made the move 11 years ago, I drove down from Framingham to Fairfax with a clownfish in a pickle jar on the passenger seat of the UHaul.
  9. Thanks all for the kind words about the Smithsonian NMNH tank we maintain. The Amazonia house is very nice, Adam (one of the Reef eScape aquarists) volunteers there and several of our other staff have worked at the Invert house (you did miss something special.) Baltimore National Aquarium is fantastic and the inner harbor is a great place to have lunch in the summer. We work with the Vet that oversees all of Baltimore aquarium to help manage our in house QT process. If you want something close, feel free to visit our aquarium showroom during open to the public hours. No purchase required... just come and look :o) Phil
  10. We display Radion G2s and G3 Pros. Kessil 150 and 360, AI Hydra 52 and Hydra, Ecoxotic marine and RGB, Innovative marine, and Cubic (the jellyfish tank with built in "rainbow" LEDs. Still some deals on coral. The old 660g coral system is now 3 different systems. One of the 3 still needs to be cleaned up, but we will begin stocking the other 2 soon.
  11. There have been some ups and downs, but we have had some success with raising our baby H. Erectus. We have babies from 2 different hatches in our rearing tank in the Showroom. If anyone is interested in seeing what we have done or, even better, want to compare notes on your successes (and failures) please email, call or stop by. Giddyup! Phil
  12. Are you thinking of drilling the tank or an over the back overflow. We could show you how the drilled internal overflows work, and if you want a used over the back, we have a few CHEAP. They are cheap because they are trouble makers :o(
  13. Welcome to WAMAS and the hobby. Come visit our aquarium showroom and design center during our walk in hours and we will be happy to show you lots of different ways you can plan your new reef tank. Visit the website for address and hours. www.reefescape.net Phil
  14. Nope, lots gone, but still lots more to go. Come see us tomorrow.
  15. We are very sad to hear this news, for the loss to the local comunity and visitors to the DC area. We especally feel bak for our friends that worked there: Mike and Tammie and Reef eScape employees Brittany, Adam and Olivia that have volenteered at the Invert House for years.
  16. Yes, really. There are Blasto Merletti frags 10-20 heads and we are selling them for $5- $10 for the frag. NOT $5-10 per head.
  17. I mostly agree with what Tom said. They may be better today but 2 out of 3 of the tanks they made over 200 gallons that I have worked on, had catastrophic failure. I think smaller tanks may do better. But on a big display tank, saving a few hundred $ on a tank when the total investment on that aquarium including lights, filters, time, rocks etc is $5,000 or $10,000 or $30,000.... too much risk and not enough reward.
  18. We have not seen a difference between standard and starphire glass as you would with the difference between glass and acrylic. The difference is NOT huge but we are pro starphire. Glasscages....only one word: caution.
  19. We use this stuff in a number of ways. We have had success with dipping aquaculture frags and colonies (they often come in with lots of algae on them) at a mix far less than what I've seen suggested. 10 or 15 parts tank water to 1 part Hydrogen Peroxide and a 5 min dip for 5-8 frags works well. I'm not saying that a greater concentration is trouble, but it stands to reason that a lower does is easier on the coral and still gets the job done. It can also be used to treat some conditions in fish such as Brook and Velvet and is used to deactivate potassium permanganate. An ORP monitor can be helpful to monitor in larger systems and you can also buy test strips that will quickly measure H2O2 in PPM.
  20. Thanks for the kind words Tony. The 250 tank is now spoken for and the 265g aggressive fish only tank is now drained and ready to be moved to it's new home. All this is to make room for our new 350g custom glass SPS tank.
  21. Ben, Thanks for coming in today. We didn't talk about skimmers... about how much space do you have? Phil
  22. We have had great success with several of these tanks in customer locations without any modification at all. the small water volume means more strict testing / maintenance routines / stocking limitations and no refugium means more water changes than other tanks. A little in-tank macro can help. Too much light was never a problem, and we he been able to keep all kinds of corals.
  23. We got in one of the wands to test in our service accounts. It worked "okay." A bit labor intensive and didn't eliminate mojano or "pest" zoas and palys. We got a new product in called zaptasia and we are quite happy with the results. It is like "joes juice" and all the others in application but the product is very different. $13 or $14 and enough product to kill 1,000 pests. We are all out right now, but will have more in a few days... happy to give you a sample from our store use jar.
  24. Bump, it has to go. This is an outstanding tank but we need the space.
