  1. At one point, Pacific East Aquaculture had them. I don't see them on their website now, but if you're looking for something closer it might be worth giving them a call.
  2. Thanks so much, everyone! This is really helpful!
  3. I don't have a cap per se, whatever is reasonable. I just need to give him a good estimate so that we can agree on the range. Unfortunately, I don't have good woodworking skills, so I'm going to need to hire someone to build something custom or purchase from a retail store. Thanks for the recommendations on width!
  4. My husband has given me the green light on a tank upgrade (woo hoo!), so I'm starting to pull together an initial budget. I'm interested in getting a 100 gallon long (72x18x17). Any recommendations on where to buy a tank stand, especially something more decorative? Also, any thoughts on using a well constructed solid wood piece of furniture (e.g., a buffet cabinet without legs)? I'm concerned about regular furniture being able to support the weight. Thanks!
  5. I have had a similar substance in my chaeto when I had poor circulation in my refugium. It was mixed in with my chaeto and there were clumps of it on the surface as well as the sides of the refugium. To me, this looks like there's hair algae mixed in with the clear gelatinous substance. I had some that looked like that as well. I manually removed what I could find, increased the circulation in my refugium, and then it went away. Here's are some chains from another clubs/sites that suggest it's a bacterial bloom: http://www.michiganreefers.com/forums/lighting-filtration-other-equipment/134355-clear-gel-clogging-filter-socks-sponge.html http://www.nano-reef.com/topic/325957-help-with-my-mysterious-problem webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:tqjejRvdzckJ:forums.saltwaterfish.com/t/381882/refugium-slime [sorry for the cached version, but their forum is undergoing maintenance until 7/24.] Search for "clear slime in refugium" or "clear slime in sump." Hope this helps!
  6. It was my first FFE (and first meeting), and it was a lot of fun. Obviously a lot of hard work went into it. Colin's talk was great. Thanks so much!
  7. +1 for caulerpa. I have this type in my tank. It grows more slowly than the feathered types, but it can still grow very fast. On the left hand side of the algae in your picture, you can see the runner extending out from the rock. The runners can really get into the rock work and are difficult to remove. Unless you're trying to cultivate the caulerpa (it does look cool), I'd pull this out. IME, the trick is to pull it slowly so that each foothold on the runner comes off.
  8. I missed the group buy from QR as well, but I noticed that Fishnreef has them if you're looking to have something shipped to you.
  9. Beautiful! How long have you had the tank?
  10. Thanks so much, everyone. These are all very helpful -- especially the long weekend recommendations!
  11. Thanks! The take at the National History is nice. Thanks! Weekend trips are definitely welcome. I'll look this up. Any other suggestions, particularly for weekend trips?
  12. Hi -- I'm new to WAMAS, and I apologize if this has been discussed elsewhere but I couldn't find it. Does anyone have recommendations for public aquariums that are within driving distance from the DC metro area (basically any aquarium that could be included as part of a long weekend trip)? Obviously, there's the National Aquarium in Baltimore, but are there others outside of the DC metro area that you would recommend? I'd appreciate any recommendations that you may have. Thanks in advance!
  13. This is horrible news. Like others, this was my favorite exhibit. I wonder if they closed because of the cost or lack of interest. If it was interest, it's a shame they couldn't have turned it into a conservation-focused exhibit like the one take at SI's Natural History. +1 on the need for more attention paid to inverts! RIP Elegance
