tygger August 25, 2006 August 25, 2006 Looking for a dosing/ peristaltic pump that's realiable and won't break the bank. How does this look? http://www.innovativeaquatics.com/products/nautilis2.html Please share if you know of better/less expensive peristaltic pump. Thanks
jason the filter freak August 25, 2006 August 25, 2006 (edited) Broken link dude I think this is what you meant http://www.innovativeaquatics.com/products/nautilis3A.html Edited August 25, 2006 by jason the filter freak
tygger August 26, 2006 Author August 26, 2006 Opps. Yea, thanks for new link. I fixed my link to another one thats a few bucks more. Is the LitreMeter III really worth spending twice as much?
tygger August 26, 2006 Author August 26, 2006 Or how about this aquamedic $90. http://www.marinedepot.com/aquarium_dosing...ser.asp?CartId=
dhoch August 26, 2006 August 26, 2006 I'm big on peristalic pumps for makeup and additives. What are you going to use it for? How are you going to control it? For my 2 cents (and I have one of each of those pumps) the nautlis is a MUCH more relialbe pump than the aquamedic... The Nautilis is medical grade and will do a great job. The Auqamedic has allready failed on me once so I'm not particularlly happy with it Dave
scott711 August 26, 2006 August 26, 2006 The kangaroo pump is good too. I have used it for years with no problems.
dhoch August 26, 2006 August 26, 2006 The only problem with the kangaroos is that they are not controlable.... Dave
scarletknight06 August 26, 2006 August 26, 2006 my understanding of the nautilus (could be mistaken though) is that it is a 2 channel doser, but the channels are not independant. Meaning both things you are dosing are dosed at the same rate, so for 2 part additives it might (bionic or randy's 2 part) not be what you need. Thats why I was looking into the litermeter3 or the grotech dosing pumps. Anyone know of anyother dual independant channel dosing set ups?
dhoch August 26, 2006 August 26, 2006 That's correct the nautlis is not independent when used for 2 channel dosing (It can also be used as a single channel doser). Dave
tygger August 26, 2006 Author August 26, 2006 I'm just looking for a peri. pump to dose kalk. The litermeter is $$$ and is prob. more than I'll need...
tygger August 26, 2006 Author August 26, 2006 I have a dual float switch from autotopoff.com and also a timer that I was planning on using. I would set the timer to turn on at night and the float switch should stop it after 1 gallon has filled. What rate should I set the dosing pump at to fill about 1g per day.
dhoch August 27, 2006 August 27, 2006 Depends on the size tubing... Best to get it first and check it out and then determine. Dave
tygger August 27, 2006 Author August 27, 2006 Gotcha. So are the Innovative Pumps good? Need to decide between the Nautils II and 3A. Nautilis II: http://www.innovativeaquatics.com/products/nautilis2.html 3A: http://www.innovativeaquatics.com/products/nautilis3A.html I emailed Inovative about the two pumps and they said: " The Nautilis II is the better pump - more "fine tuning" in the adjusting of rates. I have to change the site a little......The high volume tubing should come with the 3A, since that pump is best used for kalk only." About the using my float switch to cut off the power: " Your float switch would shut off the pump. The display would go blank, and when the switch said "on", the pump wouldn't do anything, because it would be off. My float switch would just stop the rotor from turning; the pump would stay on."
dhoch August 27, 2006 August 27, 2006 I like their product I use one as my kalk dosing and will probably get another one to be my calcium reactor feed, and maybe even a third as a just plain H20 makeup if necessary. Dave
tygger August 27, 2006 Author August 27, 2006 Dave, which one are you using? Regarding the difference, here's their response: "It's only better in the "fine tuning" ability in setting the rates. It's more useful for 2-component additions for that reason, and thus more resellable. In terms of construction quality, there's no difference.' Ok, here's a stupid question. What exactly is 2 component additions? Is kalkwasswer consider 2 components?
dhoch August 27, 2006 August 27, 2006 I have the nautlis 2... 2 component is like 2 part additions (C-blance, and other make stuff like this) one part adds alkalinity the other part calcium and you want to add them balanced in small amounts. Dave
tygger August 27, 2006 Author August 27, 2006 Ok, I'm prob. going to go with the Nautilis 2 also. Should I get the autotopoff option and/or the timer option? I guess the timer option would depend on if I dose 24/7 or just at night... any comments on dosing time? 24/7 or just at night? Thanks
dhoch August 27, 2006 August 27, 2006 The timer option is basically a plug standard 3 pin that you plug into a timer and a small jack that goes into the back of the pump. When it gets power (Timer on) then you will get dosing. When it doesn't have power it doesn't does (pump stays on (lit), but does not pump). You WILL NEED the timer option. If your Auto top off has a plug allready wired into it (to plug a pump in for example) you will just need to put it in series with the timer (i.e. timer option -> auto top off plug -> Timer -> wall jack) You should NOT get both options you can not use both at the same time. Dave
extreme_tooth_decay August 27, 2006 August 27, 2006 I use the Aquamedic for top off and have been very happy with it. I just put it on a timer to come on for ~1hr/day I trust a timer a heck of a lot more than a float switch! I used to use it wth a 10' head as well. tim
dhoch August 27, 2006 August 27, 2006 Tim, I have an aquamedic.... don't like it at all... It's failed once allready on me... I've the the neptune dosing pump for 3 years and it's NEVER failed... had a problem when I was stretching the feed line to it a little more than I should have but other than that it's flawless... It's medical grade used for dosing medicine it has to be. Dave
tygger August 27, 2006 Author August 27, 2006 Yea, my autotopoff has a plug wired into it for the submersible topoff pump. If I follow your scheme with their timer option, would their comment regarding the pump shutting off and not working still be valid vs using their float switch which would just stop the rotor. They call it a Controller Interface: http://www.innovativeaquatics.com/Pages/access.html How does the unit get power without the "timer option"??? Thanks for clarifying
tygger August 27, 2006 Author August 27, 2006 And just when I thought I had it narrowed down... Why is this Reefdosigpump "Sentry" about $100 more than the Reefdosingpump "Nautilis" ??? http://www.marinedepot.com/aquarium_dosing...der.asp?CartId=
extreme_tooth_decay August 28, 2006 August 28, 2006 Tim, I have an aquamedic.... don't like it at all... It's failed once allready on me... Maybe I got lucky, or maybe problems are on the way, but I haven't had any yet, and I've used it a long time on different tanks, with/without head. When this one dies, I'll probably buy a kangaroo 324. I've seen reconditioned units pretty cheap several times. tim
