wangspeed December 23, 2020 Author Share December 23, 2020 POTO Flamethrower Hard to capture all the different colors on this one. It's gonna be a looker! My Oregon Tort is starting to get pretty large Ventralis anthias. 1 made it out of 7 These little girls kept getting sucked into the overflow when they were small. This little girl made it. She's a nice healthy size, and eats well. Left(ish) side of the tank Center of the tank Right(ish) side of the tank

roni December 25, 2020 Share December 25, 2020 Everything's looking great! Love the ventralis... Bummer that the rest didn't make it. Did you condition in separate tank or did they all go in at the same time into display?

Did you condition in separate tank or did they all go in at the same time into display? They went through copper in a QT tank. 6/7 made it through copper just fine. As I was lowering the water level to catch them, one went carpet surfing, and I didn't notice til it was too late 5 went into the display, and they slowly started disappearing over time. A few of them I caught in the overflow or in the sump. In retrospect, I should have put them into a second QT tank that I have available for observation, and fattened them up there before putting them into the display. They were still very small when they went into the display. The remaining ventralis is getting quite large. I've had her for over a year and a half now, so no doubt about her ability to survive. roni December 27, 2020 Share December 27, 2020 That's rough. I'm not great about being consistent but I do think there's a lot of value in having a place to condition and fatten up new fish before going into the main display. When I had a larger system, I had a 4 foot tank tied into the main system where no additions would hang out a couple months to get them really aggressively chasing food before they went into the main system. These days I have no real space for that. Are you going to try to add some more?
wangspeed December 29, 2020 Author Share December 29, 2020 Out with the old fuge light, and in with the new! Now I don't get the annoying pink at night, and my rate of chaeto growth has exploded. It's waterproof, and has no moving parts, like the old CF Grow that it replaces. The only mod I did was drill it for side blinders. The last few fish I added, I had some seriously bizarre interactions. Not even within the same species. I guess they're running low on places to hide until the corals grow out more. One of the last fish I added caused my Potters wrasse to go berserk and attack my meleagris leopard wrasse to the point where I had to rescue it, but it was too late :( Honestly though, I pretty much have all the fish species that I really want. Maybe a femininus wrasse someday, but I actually don't really like how they look when they're males, other than the rare flashing. Tastes change too. If I could repick the angelfish, I'd go w/ an emperor over the majestic that I have. Nothing wrong with mine. He's great, and doesn't pick at coral. I just like the way emperors look now, but I didn't in the past. What I need is a fish to eat all my zoas. I'm done with them. The snitches are spreading like a pandemic (too soon?). Yeah, I totally get that. I miss my imperator and my moorish... They are the primary reasons that I consider getting a big tank from time to time. Get a filefish. Got a pair to wipe out an aiptasia infestation. When they finally finished the aiptasia they went to town on my zoas, and finished off a couple hundred dollars worth of corals pretty quickly. Fun stuff. I've had them in the past for aiptasia but was able to catch out before they went through too many zoas. Seem to be safe with everything else (lps). It took me a few months to figure out the right combination of LED lighting, and camera settings to get the right pictures. I was honestly kind of disappointed when I first started taking pictures with my Fuji XT4, but I kept experimenting, and I'm finally at a point where I feel pretty comfortable. teamschreiba February 28, 2021 Share February 28, 2021 Yeah photography with LED lighting is definitely tricky. I used to have MH+VHO and it was basically point and shoot. LED requires a lot more post-processing for me. You’ve definitely mastered it though!

I don't really do much post processing now that I have my settings on camera and LEDs all setup right. The main knobs I'll tweak now are crop, color temperature, and exposure level (I shoot in raw). wangspeed January 23, 2022 Author Share January 23, 2022 (edited) Checking in! The tank is better than ever coral wise. I've had some fish losses over the past year. My anthias and fairy wrasses slowly started coming out less and less. A few of the wrasses look like they hit the lid/eurobrace :( My favorite fish are still with me, a copperband and a regal angelfish. Here are a few pics! wangspeed January 23, 2022 Author Share January 23, 2022 (edited) Coral growth has accelerated dramatically in the last 3 months. I ditched TLF Reborn for CaRx media and switched to KZ. It's far cleaner, and my phosphates are .06 or lower now, and stable. It used to swing very high and then drop when I got around to using lanthanum chloride. I'm running into some acro warfare. A nice problem to have, but frustrating for sure. Edited January 23, 2022 by wangspeed
