freshfins December 19, 2016 December 19, 2016 I need to get a culture of pods, but is it safe to order them and add them to the DT? Or is that just as risky as not quarantining fish?
Packman@90 December 19, 2016 December 19, 2016 you will just drop them into your tank, there is no way to quarantine them. You can go to the website where you want to buy them from and look at the instructions on adding the pods.
AlanM December 19, 2016 December 19, 2016 Good question. I get them from Aquarium Depot (formerly reefs2go) and have never quarantined them. I have no idea how they get them. I'm sure there is some non-zero risk to adding them, but I'd respond to that risk by saying that everything in reefkeeping is minimizing practical risk rather than eliminating it totally.
cpu933k December 19, 2016 December 19, 2016 I'm usually very paranoid and QT everything - fish, corals, snails, etc. However with pods from a reputable vendor, like Reef Nutrition or Algae Barn, I just dump them in.
Rosco's Reefs December 19, 2016 December 19, 2016 I did read somewhere that it's best to put them in at night (lights off) to give them a chance to sneak into the rock work so the fish don't eat them up on the way down.
treesprite December 20, 2016 December 20, 2016 I assume they are free of fish disease because they are raised in absence of fish.
