Would you dip a maxima clam in Bayer pesticide?

The only thing, I'm told, you don't dip are smooth skinned corals, true?

I wouldn't. I would scrub the sides with a toothbrush (the shell) and maybe a toothpick. I've heard of freshwater dips, but don't know anything about them. Your main concern is aiptasia in the shells ridges, or pyramid snails.

Qt it for at least 3-5 weeks with no acros...I'm case there is an adult thay lays eggs.....5-7 days to reach maturity so at least 14 days.

Never woulda believed ... had a few clams in past....was in lfs system with acros.

Nothing else had been added to the old tank for a long while ...2 weeks later noticed the beginning of the end of my plethora of sps......still mad at that clam...and the lfs but what can ya do

It is not common practice and most people advise against it. That said, there are articles and threads in other forums of people who have done it - with the clams clearly opening up, taking in, and expelling the bayer dip - without any ill effects on the clam.

Note - this is only info I've seen/read in other venues; I personally have no first hand experience with clams (yet).

I would not dip a clam, a new born baby, my old girlfriend or even my Mother N Law in pesticide. But that's just me

Never had a clam to experiment on...but it occurs to me you could try applying the Bayer (or other treatment) to the shell topically, then rinse it well before putting it in water

I have enough trouble keeping clams without dipping

+1

I've killed everyone I have ever owned and that was without pesticide!! I've only tried twice but that's not good odds.

I dip everything else including smooth skin corals.
