wade March 11, 2015 March 11, 2015 Does anyone know of a shop that will custom cut glass? I've cut it on my own before, but I have no way to smooth the edges so I would like to ID a source. Prefer MoCo/Frederick Cty, but am not too far out of Loudon Cty either.
Apcoleman March 11, 2015 March 11, 2015 I have used Reston glass many times. They do good work and are very reasonable.
Origami March 11, 2015 March 11, 2015 I "think" that Sterling Glass (in Sterling, VA) would / could do it without problem. (I used them for some window pane replacement work 3-1/2 years ago.) I'd have to believe that there's another glass shop closer to you, though. At times, I've just used a fine grit sandpaper to dull the edge off of fresh cut glass. I don't know the extent of the smoothing and shaping that you're doing, but this might be an option.
.OptimusPrime. March 11, 2015 March 11, 2015 (edited) I've used both Seneca Glass(off of E.Gude in Rockville) and Miles Glass(Silver Spring I think) for my sump baffles. Might be worth trying them Edited March 11, 2015 by .OptimusPrime.
AlanM March 11, 2015 March 11, 2015 Send pm to decadence who has gotten glass from a few places recently. I found Laurel glass great, too.

They were referred to me by WAMAS folks, many years ago, for custom fish tanks.
treesprite March 16, 2015 March 16, 2015 (edited) I have gotten glass and had my own glass cut at Gaithersburg Glass a few times. When I broke my 65, I took the back panel piece to them and they were able to cut it in a way that I could repair the tank until I got another tank. They have cut pieces for me as narrow as a 1.5" x 48" strip. I use a dremel with a diamond bit to smooth the edges of glass. Can alswo use a diamond cutting wheel to cut out corners so when placing a baffle the corner of it won't cut into the tank's silicone. If you just need glass for baffles, see if anyone has a broken tank to throw away - you can take the pieces to the glass cutter so you won't have to buy glass, just pay for cutting (as long as the glass isn't tempered, of course). I make my baffles out of the glass from all the tanks I have broken. Edited March 16, 2015 by treesprite
