Reefer_Madness February 18, 2015 February 18, 2015 Looks pretty cool. Don't know if it works. It looks like a Rumba for your tank. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EwsEwuSJRsA My tank isn't really big enough for one, but I figured some of you guys may have a use for it. Looks like a pretty cool idea. I assume they will be at MACNA for a hands on. Ben
DuffyGeos February 18, 2015 February 18, 2015 I have seen an add for this, I think it may have been out at the last MACNA. My worry would be that it would grab some sand or starfish and drag it all over the tank while leaving a nice scratch mark. The other think is it only does one pane of glass or acrylic, so you would still need to do the sides or in my case the other glass pane, so I would need 2 plus regular cleaners for the sides.
Reefer_Madness February 18, 2015 Author February 18, 2015 I agree, coming home to a trail of scratches all over your display would not be a good thing. Cool idea, but taking the human aspect out of the cleaning is probably not the best thing.
Bruleyii February 18, 2015 February 18, 2015 It looked to keep its distance from the sand but in the initial part of the video it looked like it went deep into the sand.
madweazl February 18, 2015 February 18, 2015 Yea, probably not a good option if you have sand but if you have courser crushed coral it's probably great.
dave w February 18, 2015 February 18, 2015 Are you kidding??? This is PERFECT for my tank, with a lot of glass to clean and a bare bottom. I just hope that it will work on 3/4" thick glass or I'll be greatly disappointed. I also assume you can just move it from pane to pane as long as you are there when it finishes so you can dock it back on the charger. I can't wait to find out the price.
dave w February 18, 2015 February 18, 2015 OK, I just looked them up on Drs.FosterSmith and they're not supposed to be used on aquarium glass thicker than .40 inches. So half and 3/4" glass is out. That is one gigantic bummer for me. Does anyone know if I can cut it apart into tiny pieces and put in stronger magnets? Or use the electronic guts to build a stronger cleaner for thicker glass? Any ideas?
nextlevel808 February 18, 2015 February 18, 2015 Really cool but to be honest cleaning front and side panels least of my work I could do without. Running mag float across panels isn't to bad I want automatic robo-water-changer/feeder/top off/ and everything else you need to do for maintenance lol. Guess I could always hire someone but I always like the 1 time fee better then weekly or monthly lol. But really cool idea and gadget though.
zygote2k February 18, 2015 February 18, 2015 cleaning the viewable sides is so 1990's- lookdown is the way to go.
