Reefer_Madness January 30, 2015 January 30, 2015 I have a pretty big on in the middle of my monti cap. Should I pluck him out of there or just let him be? He spews every once in a while, but it doesn't seem to bother his landlord. Remove or let be? What do you think?
YHSublime January 30, 2015 January 30, 2015 I don't mind them. Could always just put down some super glue. Doesn't seem to be bothering anything in the middle of the cap.
L8 2 RISE January 30, 2015 January 30, 2015 I HATE them. Stick a needle down the tube, superglue it, snap it, crush it, or all of the above. They do damage the corals around them, and they can spread if left alone. More importantly, to me at least, I have had parts of their tubes get stuck in my finger so many times just from grabbing the rock or accidentally bumping into one and IT HURTS LIKE A ...... Also, they're ugly.

yauger January 30, 2015 January 30, 2015 dude were a reason I dumped all of my live rock before and dried it all out... drives me crazy. get on top of it soon or its too late!!
sen5241b January 30, 2015 January 30, 2015 One of them poked a hole in my skin once, drawing a little blood. I then accidentally rubbed the cut against a patch of zoas. Me: "am I going to die?" If they look like they are irritating a clam or coral I break them off.
Jon Lazar January 30, 2015 January 30, 2015 They're an interesting creature, but I would kill it now. They reproduce rapidly and may irritate your corals. In a year or two you will have 100 of the things.
thakki January 30, 2015 January 30, 2015 Good suggestions. I have them too...I never bothered picking them out...but dont like them either...they are ugly...perhaps I will start breaking them off or covering them with glue.
BowieReefer84 January 30, 2015 January 30, 2015 I had them and now I don't and I didn't manually remove them. I have hermits, peppermint shrimp, and a wrasse. I think they do have predators that are reef safe to help alleviate the issue.
Reefer_Madness January 30, 2015 Author January 30, 2015 I cleaned the glass and he spewed a web to catch algae pieces....I lost my cool and killed em...and a couple of his friend.
BowieReefer84 January 30, 2015 January 30, 2015 If you have plyers it's easy to crush their skeleton. Fish like a wrasse or hermits will finish them off.
zygote2k January 31, 2015 January 31, 2015 leave it alone- you'll never see a tank overrun with them. it's part of the ecosystem you're trying to establish.
Reefer_Madness January 31, 2015 Author January 31, 2015 Only killed the one in the middle of my monti cap from the picture above and one that was growing next to my pokerstar. I have more but the aren't causing and issues. They were both about 3/8" diameter. Today one of the spewed a net that had to be 8" long. Just two trouble makers. I'm not into the genocide thing. I'll leave the rest.
zygote2k January 31, 2015 January 31, 2015 the net is capturing organic pieces that would otherwise end up in the sump, or behind the rocks....
gmerek2 January 31, 2015 January 31, 2015 Yes no doubt kill the ones in the coral. It is irritating the daylights out of my Stylophora. I havnt had an issue with them spreading yet. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Reefer_Madness February 1, 2015 Author February 1, 2015 He came back!! When I stabbed him he spewed white stuff everywhere. When I packed the hole with epoxy, I thought I had him fixed. Apparently he is a tough bugger. Yesterday I saw him push the epoxy out of his hole. He stuck his head up and spun his head around like the Exorcist!!
madweazl February 1, 2015 February 1, 2015 I really enjoy the bio-diversity things like this add to the asthetics of our aquariums. I've never thought of them as ugly, I love it all. I've never had one harm or irritate anything in my tanks over the years.
