WilRams January 24, 2015 January 24, 2015 Well its finally here! I have been hoarding parts left and right while I waited on the tank to get here. I have spent way too much time online but have managed to get away with some pretty sweet deals. I think I have enough now to get this bad boy going. I have a QT going and am picking up a frag tank from Haywood so this thread should have a lot going on! For now this is all you get... Of course it showed up Wednesday in the snow...
gmerek2 January 26, 2015 January 26, 2015 Hey now! Looks excellente Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
CaptainRon January 27, 2015 January 27, 2015 Looks like a nice tank. What are the dimensions and who made it?
WilRams January 27, 2015 Author January 27, 2015 (edited) It's a Cadlights 48x24x20. Kind of stalled right now. My issue is it comes with metric bulkheads and soft plumbing. I'd rather hard plumb it all throughout but the holes are drilled metric. By what I have researched online my options are redrilling it (I would never trust myself) or using their bulkheads and getting adapters from a place like flexpvc.com Annoying.... Shoelace January 27, 2015 January 27, 2015 I so feel your pain. I remember having to find metric fittings for my Eheim stuff. Grrr.
WilRams January 30, 2015 Author January 30, 2015 Well small update. This will be slow going. Got a little done the last two days. Got a laundry sick installed in the basement and got my RO/DI mounted. I just need to clean up the lines since I don't need them that long anymore. On the opposite side of the wall of where the tank is I converted the regular outlet to GFI and turned it around. I will be putting a board to mount all my electronics in here to help keep things clean and out of the stand. I will use the hole left over from the old outlet to run my wires and what not into the stand. I also just about finished with my QT. Just need to do some cord management. These are dual 40 breeders. The bottom one is used for ATO. I didn't need 2 40's but it was cheaper to get 2 40's and a rack. If a fish needs to go into a hospital tank while theres a fish in QT then I can easily convert the bottom tank into a hospital tank. Thats it for now. Just waiting on a metric to standard adapter from flexpvc.com to plumb the big tank.
WilRams February 9, 2015 Author February 9, 2015 Small update like they all will be. Got my lights mounted. Found some pretty trick mounts. I really like them. I also started the plumbing. Just a teaser pic for now because of course I'm 4 fittings shy from finishing but should hopefully have water running by midweek! I also finished my little experiment. These mollies have been acclimated to saltwater for about 2 weeks now.
WilRams February 10, 2015 Author February 10, 2015 Really clean! Thanks! Thats what I'm going for. The only other items I plan to be under the stand is a skimmer, Apex Probes, ATO sensor and line. Finished up the plumbing tonight. Tomorrow I plan on filling it up it and leak testing. Now I'm on the hunt for a nice big cherry piece of Pukani rock.
DuffyGeos February 10, 2015 February 10, 2015 Very cool looking! Now I know what you mean by you really love plumbing.
YHSublime February 10, 2015 February 10, 2015 Yeah, you can come give me a hand when I start up again.
WilRams February 17, 2015 Author February 17, 2015 Thanks fellas! The tanks wet! I filled it up with tap water to leak test a few days ago. Only leak was a union I had not seated correctly. Fixed that and its good. I started playing with the lights when I noticed the tank is not level. Drained it and Ill get on that soon. Another issue I came across was my lights kept shutting off after a few minutes. GFCI tripped. Looked into it and it turns out the power supply that Radions come with are both 110v and 220v which sometimes throw off gfci's. Called Ecotech and they sent out 110v only power supplies. Of course one crapped out after a couple hours tonight....Kind of annoying. I also got a lot done on what will be my Frag tank. Its a 34g Deep Blue. I really like this tanks dimensions. Wish I would have done a shallow reef now. It was chipped on the top right corner. I patched it up and so far so good. Plumbing is all done. I would really like to mount the light on something nicer then the gooseneck. Looking into that. Otherwise I just need an ATO, powerhead. Thinking the 130 Gyre. I bought a used Apex for this tank. I was able to mostly get through the teeth pulling setup and update (Yes hardwired). Only problems I had was when changing a setting and uploading it would say it failed. It did this either hardwired or through the wireless adapter. I was spent messing with it so I put it away and haven't messed with it anymore. So thats on the to do list. Any ideas? Another question I have is if there is a way to go back to default? Even though I reset it and updated the firmware it still kept the previous owners inputs and what not. Id like to start from scratch. I feel like one could make a small business just setting these things up... As always moving a long slowly but surely.
DuffyGeos February 17, 2015 February 17, 2015 I like the look...no help here on the Apex...I run away from computer stuff
YHSublime February 17, 2015 February 17, 2015 I had similar problems with the Radions, and worse problems with the reeflink. For a company that charges a premium for top of the line products, they sure have some work to do. I would have been more impressed with their customer service if I didn't have to take time out of my work day to hit their hours (9-5, M-F, go figure.) Neptune Apex has great customer service, speaking of, organize a call with them and they will get you squared away.

Neptune Apex has great customer service, speaking of, organize a call with them and they will get you squared away. Yeah I have ran into that problem with a couple companies so far... Instead of waiting on them I decided to figure it out myself. I read that some GFCI's are too sensitive and some won't have issues with it. I tried a different GFCI in the house and it did not trip. I bought another one just like that and replaced the one that was tripping (which was brand new). Problem solved. Ill send them back the power supplies they sent me and keep mine. Also gave Neptune a call and hope to hear back from them tomorrow to cross that off my list. Leveled the tank today and got some lighting in stand. Its white but shows up purple in the picture.
WilRams February 18, 2015 Author February 18, 2015 Thanks! No paint although I have read Krylon Fusion works well. I originally ordered blue from Formufit. They took a very long time to ship so I went ahead and ordered orange from BRS. Of course a day after plumbing with orange blue showed up...So I decided to use blue on the frag tank. Either way I ended with way too much pipe. I plan on trying to sell the rest instead of sending it back.
madweazl February 18, 2015 February 18, 2015 (edited) Oh, didnt even know they made the stuff. Very cool; wish you hadnt told me now... Edit: Oh no, they make the fittings too! Edited February 18, 2015 by madweazl
spankythepyro March 16, 2015 March 16, 2015 I'm about to order one of these because RedSea is dicking around with their REEFER system shipments. How did you deal with the plumbing issue on these since they use metric bulkheads and piping? Did you use some of their flex tube and an adapter at the bulkheads or were you somehow able to hardplumb the whole thing?
