zygote2k December 14, 2014 Share December 14, 2014 Why the need for all the liverock in the sump? Why the use of so much phos-ban? What are your nutrient levels? What are the parameters and what has their trend been over the last 2 months? If it were my tank, I'd remove all of the liverock from the sump and all of the detritus that's trapped in that area. I'd also take out all of the phos-ban until it's proven that it's needed. I'd then do a large water change and vacuum the gravelbed. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

lordhelemt December 16, 2014 Share December 16, 2014 It's not the lights. You have a water quality issue. I'd start doing water changes every other day. Use a small diameter hose and slowly vacuum all organics off the rock. Make sure your slimmer is working and I'd skim wet until the tank returns to normal. That being said, how long have you had the GFO running? Have you added new GFO to it? Have you done anythign to your tank recently? I agree with Lord. Water changes are your friend... AlanM December 18, 2014 Share December 18, 2014 Dinos... I agree with Amuze here. Have you thought about dinoflagellates? They're toxic, look like a brown coating, and can really make a mess of a tank in a short amount of time. Or is it possible that it's more red than brown and you're getting mats of cyano filaments growing all over everything?
